My wife bought me an open box model. I'd been wanting a large telescope for some time. I was looking at 10" models and she suggested I search Adorama. I found the 12" and it was in my price range. The scope is amazing. Things are bright, so bright. I've been using an EQ mount for years and was worried the dobsonian would be annoying. With such a wide FOV it hasn't been a problem. The telescope is amazing and there is a bit of a learning curve going from 130 mm to a 305 mm. Because of the brightness it's harder to locate things. This is a heavy telescope. Close to 90 lbs with base. I live in a rural area so I leave mine outside. Possibly you could haul it in a car with a lot of care. A van or suv would be safer. The telescope comes with two 1.25" eyepiece and several other things. Camera mount, phone mount, focuser tube extension, and some tools. Collimation is a must out of the box. If you use a laser collimator the laser probably needs to be tuned. Make sure you check the laser first. I'm very happy with the telescope even though I haven't been able to use it much due to weather. I would definitely recommend this telescope. Things to consider are the size, the weight, and will you have to haul it to an observation area. While the truss design makes it more portable I think it's also an opportunity for stray light to enter. I would have never considered buying an expensive open box item from anyone but Adorama. I have trust issues. I've been shopping Adorama for many years and I know I can trust them.

Cannot caliber or collimate to make telescope usable. Instructions are vague and/or non-existent. Found Youtube video showing how to collimate using a laser collimator which required another purchase to make usable. Still not working. Currently using as very expensive dish towel rack.

Easy to collapse and transport. Assembly was a breeze.

The Sky-Watcher Flextube 300P Collapsible 12" makes everything in deep-space appears brighter and wider. Many of the more challenging to resolve objects in smaller diameter telescopes now reveal their essential structure. Objects just within the threshold of a 10" aperture now appear more prominent and may be worth dwelling upon for extended periods. Comet hunters will delight in the fainter magnitudes that are possible to discern in the SW 12" DOB. Here at last is a telescope within the threshold to tackle elusive deep-space gems like the Horsehead Nebula in Constellation Orion.
Located in Constellation Perseus, M76, is a very faint nebula of 11th magnitude. The SW 12" will capture this baby like you want to see it. M97, a planetary nebula in Ursa Major is very faint, but as a serious amateur you will want to see it. No worries, the SW 12" DOB will fulfill your quest. M61, a spiral galaxy in Constellation Virgo, will reveal spiral arms as you would hope to see them, but you will need a SW 12" telescope to resolve them well. The list goes on and you will delight in planning your own journey of exploration. The incremental resolving power of the SW 12" aperture is beyond just being impressive, it's within amateur astronomy's super aperture threshold where the lucky observer is able to resolve well, many, many objects that smaller telescopes just don't have the horsepower to detail satisfactorily because they can't pull in enough light. Again, Sky-Watcher's compact, collapsible optical tube design makes this super aperture 12" DOB a far more practical decision to purchase.
