I'm of the 'heavier the better' school of tripod design. A tripod is with you to keep your camera stable. Every shot you care about should be taken with a tripod. Everything else is a compromise. I do mostly outdoors work so I'd rather invest my strength in carrying an extra camera than a heavy tripod. I selected the SLIK Pro 700DX as a replacement for my SLIK U212 which lasted with heavy use for over 10 years. The 700DX costs about the same but is lighter though somewhat less versatile. The U212 had continuous adjustment for the leg spread mechanism whereas the 700DX has two slots at the leg head for spread adjustment. I've found after a couple of months use this is not really an issue and I've been able to provide a stable platform by adjusting the leg length on hilly terrain. I can fold up the tripod in about 15 seconds and it's of a convenient size to strap onto either my backpack or shoulder bag. The legs do not have spikes, which is preferred these days because spikes will not get through airport security. The leg length adjustment may be an issue as the tripod ages. There are two clamps on each leg that compresses the fitting that secures the leg tubing. This is the same mechanism that finally cracked and failed on the U212. The clamps seems to be a stronger plastic material then what was used on the U212. I prefer the clamp to the twist type mechanisms. It is quicker to use and when you flip the lever you know it's locked. When shortening the legs for travel you simply fip open all 6 levers. Push the legs together then push down and the legs compress into the telescope tubes. Flip the levers closed and you are ready to go. I have a monopod with screw mechanisms that tend to slip if I don't pay attention to how hard I twist. Bottom line. Great value. A little bit heavier than a carbon tripod but I'll take the weight to help with stability. Particularly good when I working in a strong breeze. And the simplicity of the adjustment design is a big bonus when I'm doing night photography. I'm still and old school photographer using Nikon F4 and F5 film cameras. Digital is greatly improved by still can not match the tonal and color range of film. The SLIK Pro 700X is a good tool to help securely stabilize these heavy cameras. The F4 is built like a tank, the best camera ever made, but you know when it is around your neck. The 700X is a goo match for the F4's weight and should work well with video camera's. I give the SLIK Pro 700X 5 stars because it is an excellent value, gets the job done by providing a stable platform, ease of use, and good portability. The only reservation I have are with the design of the leg clamps. I wish they were metal rather than plastic. Though the clamps on my previous U212 lasted 10 years of rough use. You should consider this tripod.

After reading one description saying it extended to 80+ inches I was stoked, but saddened when it arrived and only went to 74in my fault for not reading more about it from other pages. My only real complaint is that for doing low level shooting the mech. for changing the angle of the legs isn't as user friendly as the Manfroto one... Other then that it is perfect for me(I am 6'4" so I need a tall pod) It could be lighter but I am fairly young/strong at the moment so it doesn't bother me. I also like the center column since it is able to be shortened for low angle shooting :)

I read all of the reviews on this tripod, so I was expecting something pretty nice for the price. But, wow, this is even better than I'd hoped for. These legs are VERY stable and can be set to different angles to allow low shots. The center column can be inverted, so you can have the camera between the legs shooting down for really close macro and copy work. And it looks fantastic. This combined with the equally impressive Vanguard SBH-250 ball head is a great, affordable setup.

Super well built tripod that will hold anything you can bolt to it. It may be a bit too heavy for on the run shots, but a perfect fit for landscapes and portraits. The design and workmanship on this unit is very good and the adjustments are easy to use. I would highly recommend this tripod to any one looking for a very stable tripod.

Shooting T-Ball & Soccer pictures. Very stable, not going to blow over or away. Stable height for a person being 6'5" as I am and no stooping down to use it.

I use it for nature and landscape work, and I see it as the best value tripod I could find, that will do the job I need it to do.
