Recommend the diffuser

My experience with land flashes is that they can make a difference in your photos. It is not that expensive so I would prefer to have it and not use it rather that not have it and wish I had.

Easy to install, just snaps on. Works great underwater and also serves to protect the flash lense when not in use.
