Questions & Answers

Ruth W : would this function as a gently used walking stick?LYNNE M : Definitely yes.LYNDA B : It would serve well as a gently used stick.TOM T : A walking stick must be able to handle your worst-case hiking scenario. I wouldn't recommend a light weight monopod for that kind of use.JOHN S : I THINK IT CAN, JOHNKEVIN M : Yes, I use it as a walking stick occationally.PETER H : sureREBECCA N : I haven't actually used it, so I'm not sure :(.DONALD G : Not a good Idea. Might work, but might give way at the wrong time. Better to use a real walking stick.CHRISTIAN F : Not so sure about that. I think the telescoping part would be fine if not leaned on too heavily but I would worry about the rubber knob at the bottom. Also, unless the ball head is replaced with a proper handle, it would not be very comfortable to hold in hand.OLIVER C : No, not sturdy enough for that. ALEX B : This one will do well as a walking stick, as long as you do not extend the most bottom part of the monopod, since that part is the thinnest part. Love the pod, will definitely recommend. Alex B.DAVID H : *could* it? sure. I'd be a little careful about how much it gets used that way, the rubber tip might die an early death.RUIZ, D : Yes, probably, maybe, no. Emphasis on 'gently used'. Obviously you won't be able to put your whole weight on it, but it does help with keeping balance on some terrains. If you need a walking stick, get a walking stick. You shouldn't put more weight than recommended on the monopod since it will damage it; but if you're going through some odd terrain, it might help you keep your balance.PREETI D : Yes! I've used it as one in Yellowstone as recently as a few months ago. And I've had the monopod for a couple years now with no issues.
Shopper : How heavy is this monopod?JOHN B. G : Not sure the exact amount, but less than a pound for sure. Although it is extremely lite, it is very sturdy and well made. Love mine. If it broke today, I'd buy another one tomorrow.DAVE V : it's extremely light, surprisingly strong, easy to adjust and functions great as a walking staff too. I'm very pleased with it in every way. I use it now mostly with my Nikon D5100.LYNNE M : It's a bit heavier than my I phone, but not much. I stick it in my tote bag with my camera and lenses. It is extremely convenient because it's so light way and folds up or down so quickly. I highly recommend it.LYNDA B : Monopod is not heavy, but bulky. Strong enough to use for non-demanding hiking stick. Solved my needs for sturdy, quick use, and packable.STEPHEN M : I don't remember the exact weight but I do know that it is very light and I've enjoyed using it.CHRISTIAN F : I weighed it on my kitchen scale, 450 g or 15.5 oz. a little lighter than the weight provided in the tech specs. I find it very light weight and easy to carry.DONALD G : It weighs almost exactly one pound. It is very useful, durable, and works as advertised.C H : This weighs 15.5 ounces on my post scale.EDMUND G : It's very light, about 1 pound, and slides up to a small size. I'm very pleased with the quality for what I spent.CINDY S : It weighs 1 lb or less.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?MARIO G : I have a Slik tripod and like their productsMARY KAY M : Looked sturdier than the cheaper modelsRonald K : I chose to purchase this item based on price and solid reviews. Also, I've been in the market for a monopod for quick shots while on long hikes.GRANT S : great portability. i use it primarily for sports and any outdoor hiking trips where a tripos is not as practical.VICKIE O : Needed a new monopod and I liked the description of this product. Exactly what I needed when carrying a traditional tripod is not practical.

Nice monopod

Solidly built. Easy to use. My first monopod, maybe the only one I will ever need? Took it in my pack on some hiking and birding trips. Not the smallest when collapsed, but full extension is very nice. Ball head works well. That part is easily replaceable if necessary.

Lightweight, but satble

I bought this item as a gift for my daughter who is an avid hiker. She also uses it in museums where permitted. It's sturdy enough for most digital cameras and some DSLRs / SLRs.

Good value!

Using this monopod to stabilize a Nikon 70-200mm AF-S f2.8 lens for ice hockey action shots. It works well and is more than strong enough to support my lens & camera combo. The included ball head is a nice feature that gives this monopod added value. It is not the most compact or the lightest of weight but at [$] it is a very good value.

Solid little unit

This is a solid little monopod for a great price! It is very light and compact. I have used it mainly for sports, and I removed the ballhead so I could mount my lens collar directly to the monopod. My only minor complaint is I wish it were a little taller; I am 6'3" and it could use another few inches for me. Of course I would just about be there if I put the ballhead back on, but then it wouldn't be nearly as stable and solid!

A Good Value!

This is a very good product that I have been using for a few months now, since I received it as a Father's Day gift. It is lightweight, easily adjustable and very sturdy and excellent for everyday use.

Good ol' stick

This is a reasonably priced monopod for what you get. Slik continues to toe the fine line of cheap but quality construction for a good price and sturdy products a bit more expensive but reasonable. If you are a walk around photographer this should be in your bag. I could probably due without the ball head on a monopod but thats personal opinion. Buy this... use it... It won't be the greatest thing in your pile of gear but it's something you'll be happy to have.

Top Notch

This is a wonderful monopod that is very easy to carry. Very rigid and the ball head, though smallish, is quite robust. Opens super quickly and is so compact you tend to take it than leave it.

Good stick for the price

Works well with small and med lenses. It's a little unstable with my 200-500mm lens but you can take the ball head off.

Good value

I bought this for travel/hiking, possibly some sports photography in the future. I haven't been able to use it in the field yet, but have messed around with at home some. For the money, it exceeded my expectations upon receipt. My only minor complaint so far is that the cork material at the top of the ballhead which "protects" the camera seems to be slightly wearing in spots, after mounting the camera only once. Maybe I over-tightened, not really sure. There appears to be no lost functionality because of this...I just wonder about its future durability. However, for the price, I would not hesitate to purchase this again.

Good for beginners as me :)

I ordered a monopod for a street photo. I just want to see the difference between this one and a tripod. I also did not want to spend +100 for a high-end monopod, so this one is perfect for me. Looks and feels solid, easy to open clamps and light. Tripod is better if for long exposures but to stabilize your camera better than your hand it's worth of your attention.

great value, excellent product

Perfect heigth for me 5' 10". Light weight and sturdy. Only con is the ball is plastic, so I try to avoid over tightening. I plan to use it for my nephew's graduation (in crowds).

Great buy for the money

I bought the Slik monopod after several years of experience with the lightweight, inexpensive Slik 6000 tripod. I was a bit concerned that a light weight monopod in this price range might not be strong enough to hold a DSLR with a long lens. The Slik has performed well in the field and I recommend it for anyone who needs only a slight stabilization at shutter speeds that are only a bit longer than hand held. Obviously at this price there are no extras, just light weight and convenient. The ball head is a plus, but not nearly professional quality. Some kind of foot stabilization would have been nice, either a point, or floating foot. But, for the price, it's a good deal.

Great Monopod ... must have!!!

I can't leave home without my monopod. Excellent addition to my gear and works great when using a 200m or 300m telephoto lens. This really works in very tight places and have produced consistent quality sharp images and have eliminated any blurs from my pictures. One of the best equipment I have in my bag ... a must have for any serious hobbyist or enthusiast.

Essential Outdoors

"Must-have" gear if you're shooting insects in the wild - and good for birds, too. I'm on my second one, having lost the first, I couldn't get a replacement soon enough! Regardless of monopod manufacturer, do get a ball head for still cameras. One's included here, and at a low price.
