This convenient adapter mounts between the tripod and tripod head so that the head can be leveled similar to how a professional video head is leveled.  &#149; Quickly level the bas of a tripod head  &#149; +/- 7.5 deg tilt in any direction  &#149; All-metal construction  &#149; Fits most tripods and heads   The all-metal Slik Leveling Unit-II acts like a professional Bowl Mount on a video tripod and allows for a total of 15 degrees (+/- 7.5 degrees) of tilt in any direction. This adapter is perfect for quick adjustment to the level of the tripod head.  The Leveling Unit II has a simple one lock ring operation to easily lock and release the swivel bowl for leveling. There may be times when it is important to have the base of the tripod head level and the Leveling Unit-II has built-in bubble level to ensure a level platform to work from.

Excellent design. I especially like the twist lock. Works as advertised. Unfortunately, for my purpose this unit has too narrow range of movement. Only +/- 7.5 degrees. When I have to use tripod, I use leveling heads instead of ball heads, as I take only 16:9 horizontal pictures. Leveling units are much lighter and smaller than any tripod heads with similar load rating. Great for travel. Reluctantly, I had to exchange this one for differentmodel with +/- 15 degrees movement.

It’s for 1/4” fitting, who has a tripod with 1/4” fitting?

Beware Odd Size

I just extend the tripod legs and eyeball it so the mount is close to level, then loosen the twist lock on the Slik Leveling Unit II and tilt the top half to center the builtin level.  Done! 

    When I loosen the pan lock on my ball head, to make panoramas, I now know it is panning level to the horizon.  Finally, I can do pano's with the ball head tilted up or down and put the horizon as high or low as I want it in the frame.  I use this in combination with a long release plate between the camera and ball head so the camera swivels close to the lens nodal point to reduce parallax issues and make it easier to stitch my pano's.
    This is the best leveling unit I found so far. It's pretty simple and well made, and is strong enough to easily hold my mirrorless camera and mid-range zoom lens.  There are no protruding levers or knobs to catch on things or get confused with quick release or motion locks.  Price is comparably reasonable.  This one is a winner in my book.

timesaver for panoramas

I works great. Just a simple twist and its locked. Its much easier to pack away because it doesn't have a knob sticking out to lock it in place. Its very compact.
