Shopper : What's this for? Do I need it if I buy the 300dx tripod?MARKAM A : Yes, this quick release platform is needed to use the tripod with any camera. I usually purchase more than 1, because I have more than one camera and it allows me to leave the quick release on the camera each time I use a different one. I also teach and have to have a number of these for my students, because every time my students use the tripod they forget to take the quick release off their camera and therefore the tripod is left without one. I am not the greatest fan of the quick release concept, but being an old school photog I am fine putting the camera on and off the tripod each time. Apologies for the long winded response! KeithRICHARD F : Yes you need one for each camera or flash that you use if you don't want to change it from one unit every time you change whatever thing your using t he tripod. I have three and it worked well for me.RICHARD F : I ordered a quick release because I have 2 cameras. One comes with the tripod.RONALD M : A new tripod should come packaged with one of these already. Get an extra one if you have an extra camera you'll also be using on the same tripod or, if you're like me, you lose the original quick release plate.WILLIAM B : It comes with the tripod. I bought an extra to put on a longer lens.

Awesome quick release

Just what we were looking for!

We have 2 Slik tripods and 2 quick release platforms. We wanted another for our long lens so we don't have to change the quick release platform. We never miss a shot wasting time transferring the platforms from lens to lens or camera to lens. The only issue we had was that the bag it came in had been slit open and the brochures were missing. All that was in the bag was our receipt and the quick release platform.

needed piece

I was attempting to attach my tripod to a barn door hinge and forced the piece to much. I broke the bolt from the knob, if I hadn't of forced it the piece wouldn't have broken. I only gave it a three because it's a replacement piece that does it's job but shouldn't cost so much.

Exactly what I needed!

I misplace my original tripod mount and was going nuts without it. My perfectly good tripod is useless without a mount. This tripod mount replacement is an exact duplicate to the mount that I misplaced. It fits perfect and snugs in securely. That was what I needed, that was what I got.
