Shopper : Is this sold in stores?RONALD E : I suspect you could find this in other stores. However, at one time I thought this model was out of stock, so I purchased one here when I found out it was available.
Shopper : Is this 3/8" female on the bottom?RONALD E : OK. Let me add. The bottom has a plastic cover over the center. When the plastic cover ~7/8 inches in diameter is revealed, there is simply the bottom of the female post that sits flush with the top of the cavity the plastic cover hides.RONALD E : Hi. I am not sure of the question. The female 'screw' portion is on the top and using a drill gauge plastic chart, the female screw fits 1/4 inch. Certainly 3/8 inch is way to large.
The diameter of the item is 2 and 3/16 inches. The thickness is about 5/8.
Hope that helps?JOHN S : as far as I know this has no threads on the bottom. It has a cover on the bottom and I am not going to rip it off. I keep my 3/8 to 1/4 in my tripod bag.GERALD B : It does not have a female 3/8" thread on the bottom. Just the 1/4 inch threaded post.MIDWEST CAMERA REPAIR, I : No, nothing on the bottom side, just the 1/4 20 you see on the top.MARKAM A : I do not believe so. I believe it has a solid screw base on the bottom.

Shopper : Will this adapter allow me to use the Slik 800 Ball Head on my Slik Pro 700 DX tripod ?MARCUS M : No, this is simply a camera/pod mating device (handy as, though, I love my two). I'm not sure if the Slik 800 head is compatible with the legs for the 700DX. Personally, I like the pan & tilt head I have. These plates are awesome for either, I'm sure. I have one on my camera body and one on my 650-1300mm zoom (all 7 pounds of it) and I get steady, positive lock and support. Works great on both.STEVE B : Yes this will work .its an excellent item. I use mine every day.DEVON H : This quick-release plate goes between your camera and the ball head. It's designed so that you can remove your camera from the tripod without having to unscrew the plate from your camera. The ball head should attach to the 700DX tripod without needing any adapters.JAY T : The 800 ball head should directly attach to the 700 tripod.
This is the plate that attaches to the bottom of the camera. One of these is included with the Slik ball head and buying a second adapter plate would allow you to quickly change to a second camera on the ball head.

It works, and I like that.
Weird shaped tripod head, but it's fast and easy to use. Always nice to have a backup, especially when you're constantly misplacing things like I do. No complaints.

Better than Original
We have 2 Alpen scopes on SILK tripods and 1 scope hit the ground because the original quick release plate screw was no longer able to screw to the scope. I purchased 2 of these replacement plates and the screws are removable unlike the original. We replaced with longer screws and now our scopes are securely fastened to the tripods. Well worth the cost. Just wish the original plates had longer screws to start with.

Release plate
Having a second plate is very handy. This setup works very well. Can take camera off the tripod very quickly to catch shots handheld if need be

Same as Release Plate that Comes with 70
Exactly the same as the quick release plate that comes with the 700 DX allowing use of the tripod with two cameras without changing the mounting plate.

Nice accessory
This release plate is for my three-way pan head, not a professional ball head as the header suggests. The tripod comes with one disk and this is an extra so i can mount it on a backup camera or telephoto lens to allow me to change cameras quickly. It works quite nicely as such.Knowing what i know now though, I would skip purchasing this item an purchase the tripod legs only. Then, I would get a quality ball head for the legs.However, if you are not inclined to plunk down $400 for a nice ball head, this setup works just fine.

Love this...
Easily supports the heavy camera and lens (D80 with 18-200 lens) fits in my pack so no need to always remove. Unobtrusive when using the camera without the Tripod.

Neat and simple
Have ben doing some macro photography of flowers here in the AZ desert. Have a quick release plate on each of my cameras, very easy to switch from one camera to the other without having to figure out the right direction to mount the quick release and camera on the tripod.
