Questions & Answers

Shopper : Can you connect an external AM antenna to this radio?MARY H : I have no idea, sorry. I bought it for my mother and she uses it in her kitchen.C. E : I am not sure if there is a provision for an AM external antenna as is the one provided for FM. My purchases of this model radio have been as gifts to friends and so I cannot say with any certainty one way or another.NELSON J : So sorry, I can't help. I've not looked into that.KEVIN H : Yes, there is a spot on the back of the radio labeled " AM-EXT. with a screw to connect a wire from the antenna.ANDREW B : Yes, there is a place to hook an AM antenna on the back. There is a switch to go from internal to external antenna on the back also.MICHAEL C : Yes. There is a connection for an external AM antenna.WARREN D. A : Yes. An fm antenna is included. There is wiring for an am antenna to be attached. It's a great radio for the value. All bestWILLIAM F : Absolutely. Provision is made on the back of the radio.TYSON I : Yes you canMATTHIA K : Yes, you can. Use a loop for best results.JEANNETTE D : I see that you can connect an FM antenna but I do not know if you can connect an AM.
Shopper : What are the radio's dimensions?STEVENS S : It's just under 9.5 inches long, (or wide), by 4.5 inches high, by 6 inches deep which doesn't include the protruding front dials nor the protruding AC cable, and antenna connections in the back of the cabinet. That's just the dimensions of the cabinet itself.ANDREW R : <a href="http://www.adorama.com/SNGWR11.html#specs" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/SNGWR11.html#specs</a>
Shopper : What distance must transmitting station be for clean clear reception?C. E : Clear reception depends on a number of things: the power of the broadcast station's transmitter, weather, your location, and the radio's tuner. This particular Sangean model has an excellent tuner,--which I found better than similar, but somewhat more expensive, radios in a simple side-by-side test. The Sangean also has a separate external antenna which will pull in weak stations quite well. The sound quality is amazing.JOHN G : I own two of these radios. Reception is just as much a function of the placement of the radio in your living/working space as the radio itself. It also is very dependent upon the type of building you're in. I own two other Tivoli radios, and a higher model Sangean, and this is as good or better than the Tivolis (which are much more expensive), and almost as good as the higher-priced Sangean. The higher priced Sangean has a digital tuner which is a little better at locking on to weaker signals. If you are far away from radio stations, or they are far from you, the only thing that will really bring them in is a good, and well-placed separate antenna. (And I assume you're talking about FM. AM is a totally different story. I have an FCC 3rd Class Radio Engineering license...) Hope that helps.LIBBY C : Sorry no idea. All I listen to are local stations in my home town. Maybe 3 miles from transmitter tower.JEANNETTE D : The MPR station that my radio is tuned to is 20-25 miles away.WARREN D. A : Since I am in the city (mpls/stpaul) I can't speak to distance. I do know I get great sound and I'm very happy with my unit.

Very good sound and reception; great loo

I was very surprised to hear the great sound from this am/fm radio. A good looking radio, the case made from real walnut, the controls simple and concise. Has the retro look of a 1960's radio. I like it so much, I will buy a send one for the apt.

Just what I wanted!

I just wanted a good sounding radio to listen to the blues played every sunday on our local station (that doesnt have a great signal). This radio has great reception and great sound. I dont like the sound too bassy nor too tinny... the balance is perfect, soft or loud. I am really happy with this purchase.

Very nice, great product

Bought it for my mother. She wanted just a radio, not one with clock or alarm with it. She wanted one for the kitchen as she had years ago and she has missed not having one out there to listen to in the mornings. She loves it!!

The Sangean WR-11 draws on the simple style and elegance of the WR-1. The WR-11 has an acoustically tuned wooden cabinet, large 3", 7 W speaker and only 3 rotating knobs. This amazingly sensitive and sophisticated radio is easier to control than your average TV and sounds better than your home stereo system. Although it looks classic, it has plenty of modern features to give your living room, bedroom, or even kitchen a great sound and look. Jacks include: stereo earphones, auxiliary input and record output. There is a tuning LED plus an internal/external antenna switch. Supplied with an AC power cord and can also operate from 9 to 14 V DC.

What's in the box:

  • AC Power Cord
