I bought this Blu-ray Disc Player for it's SMART features. Unfortunately the SMART features are very poorly implemented and I am unable to install the PLEX client from the Opera TV store. This model is listed as supporting PLEX Opera TV version but it does not. Instead I have to connect to my PLEX server using DLNA and am unable to access the full features of the PLEX client.

This is a sweet machine - high quality playback of both standard and high definition, combined with elegance of design and ease of set-up and use. Sony support (in my case regarding a firmware update) was pleasantly helpful. My only complaint pertains not to this product but to the region-locking of BD/DVD hardware - it's unfriendly and largely unnecessary - most people buy local when they can.

I bought Sony BDP-S790 seven months ago and I'm very pleased with this product. It works together with LCD Sony KDL-55HX850 and receiver Yamaha RX-V471. The 3D and 2D images are very clear and sound is very accurate on BD and SACD.

It plays every disc I throw at it in excellent sound and vision quality. This machine has three facilities that ordinary blu ray players don't have and are the reasons I purchased this machine. They are - it's 3D, plays Super Audio Discs and has an extra HDMI output for an HD surround amplifier. This extra output is essential for 3D blu ray discs if you are using a surround amplifier without a 3D input facility. The alternative is to buy a new amplifier but if your existing surround amplifier is an expensive high end job then you wont want to change it and this machine allows you to keep it. The only downside is that it does not have access to all the catch up channels on the internet whist some other players do.

I have always been a Sony fan and this Blu-Ray player is definately the best I have purchased and I have had 4 Sony's since the format started. Picture quality through both my Sony TV and projector is superb and this added to the great spec and features (wireless wifi & apps ease of setup etc) make the Sony BDP-S790 a very affordable high end player.

I bought this with my Sony X9 4K UHD display. It was easy setup and easy to connect to my network via built in wifi feature. Online services are great. Picture quality is amazing with a high speed Ethernet gold plated HDMI cable. Works fantastic with other Sony products when synced. Touch sensor controls on panel give a clean neat look.

This is a great machine it does everything that you would expect from a Sony product. I would recommend this to everyone and it is 4k ready.

I bought this last November and am more than pleased with the product. It is a little tricky to get around at first as it does so many functions including lots of internet content.Revisited all my Blu Rays and DVD's ~ great sound and picture quality.

I bought this for dual HDMI out to bypass my amp for 3D signals. It provides so much more than that, with great 'smart' technology, with excellent picture and sound too.

I bought this with a 4k Sony TV, so many of the features are duplicated, but the player works extremely well and I really like the fact that the player and the TV can be controlled from either remote (simple commands, at least.

Bought to accompany a Sony 3D TV. The instruction manual so great with very details instructions, although once connected the player sorted out everything with auto-setup. So many features I feel it will last for many years even with the advances in this type of tecknology/

i have a dedicated home cinema room with an Oppo player, and wanted a blu-ray player for my living room for other times. I can honestly say the Sony player matches the much more expensive Oppo for picture quality, and real-time usage is a faster machine, e.g loading times. It is slim and compact, and has very good build quality. I cannot fault it. Well done Sony!

This player has been my introduction to the word of watching Blu-ray movies, and what a good choice it was. Pictures are amazing when played back through my KDL-46W905a. I can't comment on other setups but am very happy with this one. The remote is well laid out with positive clicks to the buttons. The on screen menu, although differs in design to the televisions, works well and has live updates on the current movie being played using GraceNote. I am slightly disappointed the player can't play back music CD's, although SACD's are supported. It would seem a huge opportunity missed and would need the purchase of a dedicated CD player. Touch sensitive buttons on the top surface activate each time the duster comes out - which is annoying given the time the player takes to boot and close down again.

bought this mainly for the twin hdmi out, unfortunately this feature does not work very well as I have to unplug my TV connection to get DTS to my Amp, I can only assume that it is defaulting to the lower capabilities of my TV rather than my Amp. Have tried all sorts of ways to fix this but to no avail.

Volume on TV (sony) has to be turned way up when using the player. Using HDMI connection for the sound. Otherwise quality and performance are great.
