I was looking for a an easy choice, I took it and it's the best one I could have made! We now have great sound to go with my team and wagon for the parades we participate in throughout the year. Now we're going to have Christmas music when we bring Santa into town twice this winter!

Sounds better than most boomboxes and compact. Remote is a plus. Cons: bright in color but there again I'm old. Other than that no complaints.

Propelling the quality and functionality of the boombox product category forward, this Sony XPLOD CD-Cassette Recorder CFD-G700CP is in a class by itself. Whether it's a classical sonata, jazz, country, classic rock, opera, or punk fusion and everything in between, this Sony boombox will make your music come to life with its deep bass performance, detailed midrange, and super clear vocals. Be prepared to revel in the high fidelity world of Sony portable audio with this music machine at your next house party. From start to finish, this Sony boombox's conceptual design, performance, features, value, and its fitness for professional DJ application use is simply state-of-the-art. I believe that Sony's XPLOD boombox is a fundamental expression of the company's technical dominance of the portable audio landscape. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox features a best-in-class powered speaker setup with 5 speaker drivers that produce big sound, bold sound, and superb sound quality for almost any size room, portable audio application, or entertainment event. This unit can play very loudly, with detailed dynamic low bass reproduction that far exceeds the traditional deep-toned parameters of the boombox product category. The Sony XPLOD boombox will play at such loud volume levels while producing audiophile grade sound output, that it is just perfect for the listening interests of the most demanding portable audio or boombox enthusiast. This Sony boombox, because of its full-range speaker system and Power Drive Woofer backed by a discrete 20 watt (RMS) power amplifier system, can successfully compete in sound quality with much more expensive component stereo systems. The Sony portable stereo utilizes two dedicated amplifiers to power both the mid-range drivers and the super bass producing Power Drive Woofer. The power amplifiers allocate 12 watts of power to the center bass speaker, and 8 watts total power output to the mid-range speaker drivers. Since this Sony boombox features the ultimate aggressive power design, I no longer have a need for that large stereo system in my home. In fact, it is almost a slight of this product to call it a boombox because of its unique and powerful sound that it produces. The large and beautiful red speaker system consists of two full range 4-inch speaker drivers, two 0.8-inch tweeters, and a 5-inch Power Drive Woofer with three distinct levels of bass adjustment. The Power Drive Woofer features Position Off, Position 1, and Position 2 bass reinforcement settings. The Power Drive Woofer rests in an acoustically tuned cabinet that is designed to achieve maximum low frequency bass response. The Power Drive Woofer features an LED based illumination ring that surrounds the center bass speaker. The Power Drive Woofer illumination ring lights up in two distinct variations of bright red when the super bass woofer is engaged by pressing the Woofer control on the main unit or the remote commander. The Sony stereo system is housed within a massive boombox chassis that bespeaks quality, elegance, and acoustic prowess within the portable audio kingdom. The stereo system's augmented system weight, special lighting effects, and sleek contoured shape present the user with an immediate awareness of this unit's intrinsic quality, awesome feature set, and its amazing sonic properties across the Radio, Tape, and CD inputs. The Sony XPLOD boombox feature set is the best that I have ever seen in this product category. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox comes standard with a high-performance, drift-free digital FM/AM tuner, 30 FM/AM station presets (20 FM band stereo memory presets, and 10 AM band memory presets), FM monaural reception, FM stereo reception, telescopic FM whip antenna, built-in AM ferrite bar antenna, FM frequency range: 88-108 MHz, AM frequency range: 530-1710 kHz, auto preset scan tuning, manual preset station input, manual seek tuning, preset tuning up/down controls, manual tuning up/down controls, FM/AM band selector button, preset radio station retention after loss of battery or AC power, digital multi-function LCD display, (LCD display information includes: FM/AM band indicator, sound mode preset indicator, station frequency, FM stereo indicator, FM/AM preset station number, Power Drive Woofer indicator, MP3 disc indicator, MP3 folder indicator, MP3 total file number, MP3 current playback file number, CD/MP3 Program Play indicator, CD Program Play Full indicator, CD track number, total CD play time, elapsed CD track play time display, and No Disc indicator), two auxiliary line input jacks for connection to a computer, TV, VCR or additional audio component of your choice, built-in 3.5mm audio cable for connection to an MP3 player, a slide-out protective cover that shields the line input jacks from the natural elements, power on/off button, digital volume controls, 0-10 digital volume scale, Power Drive Woofer control, Power Drive Woofer cover, 5 preset sound mode buttons, mode button, repeat button, display/enter button, Audio In line input access button, Sony logo, Sony "XPLOD" logo, stereo speaker system, two bass reflex ports, single-cassette player/recorder, 4 track, 2 channel stereo cassette recorder, cassette recording off FM/AM tuner, Type I normal bias cassette tape playback and recording, auto record level control, soft touch cassette tape transport controls including: record, play, rewind, fast forward, stop/eject, and pause buttons, single-direction cassette playback, fast winding cassette tape mechanism, CD/Cassette synchronized recording, cassette recording off line input source component, cassette recording of CD program play mode selections, 70-13,000 Hz cassette player frequency response using Type I normal bias tape, cassette tape erasure, adjustable 0-90 minute sleep timer, sleep button, CD-R/RW playback, MP3 CD playback, MP3 CD folder +/- navigation buttons, ID3 MP3 CD tag information display including: total folder number, total file number, file number being played back, total file play time, song title, artist name, and album title, IR remote control sensor, a connection for a Sony DJ lighting controller (Sony model: D-Light Sync Controller DLS-1), single-disc CD player with a 1-bit D/A converter for outstanding Sony sound, 8X oversampling digital filter, 20-20,000 Hz CD player frequency response, top-loading CD compartment, push open/close CD compartment, CD pivot placement holder, CD transport controls including play/pause, forward skip, reverse skip, stop controls, 15 track CD/MP3 RMS CD programming, resume, program, shuffle, and repeat CD/MP3 CD playback modes. The CD player can repeat a single track or MP3 file, repeat all tracks or MP3 files, repeat tracks or MP3 files in random order, and repeat tracks or MP3 files in program play mode. The resume CD playback function allows the user to start playback from the beginning of the track/MP3 file that the unit was playing when playback was stopped. Resume play is cancelled once the CD compartment door is opened, the CD stop button is pressed twice consecutively, and it also does not work during program or shuffle play modes. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox's digital volume control buttons are located on the far right side of this unit's top panel. This unit features Volume - and Volume + controls. The volume can be decreased or increased in 3 segment increments on a 0-10 digital volume scale. The line segment volume scale display is depicted on this stereo's multi-function LCD display. The main unit's volume controls are also duplicated on this stereo's supplied remote commander. Please note that pressing or holding a volume control button will decrease or increase the volume level rapidly as needed. However, if you press either volume control one key press a time, the volume level will be adjusted up or down one incremental segment at a time. The stereo also features a rear AC input jack, 28 watts AC power consumption, detachable battery compartment cover, battery compartment, DC battery terminals, 120 V, 60 Hz, AC power rating for the main unit, 12 V DC power rating for the main unit, 3V DC power rating for the supplied remote commander, black/silver/red color scheme, red/white/black/green front panel lettering, and it comes with operating instructions. A full-function 27-key remote commander is included for convenient control of the unit from a distance. The model number of the included remote control is RMT-CG700A. The included remote control has numerous features to enhance the portability and functionality of this Sony XPLOD portable stereo. The remote can power the stereo on in AC power mode only and turn it off in both battery and AC power modes. There is a 0-90 minute sleep timer function which can power the radio off automatically at six selectable intervals of time. To activate the sleep timer, the user must first play any music source that the Sony stereo offers (radio, cassette, or CD). Next, press the sleep button on the remote commander or the main unit. Each press of the sleep button will adjust or cycle the sleep timer function via the LCD display to the following: "Auto-60min-30min-20min-10min-off." If the "auto" feature is selected, the stereo will automatically turn itself off after a 90 minute time period. The sleep timer function can be cancelled by pressing the power button on the main unit. However, the Sony boombox can't be programmed like an alarm clock to power on and begin playback of music source at a specified time. A Function button allows the user to switch back and forth between the FM/AM tuner, CD player, Audio In, and cassette player. The CD key allows direct access to the CD player. The Repeat key activates CD repeat play mode. The Enter and Clear buttons are used to program and delete CD tracks into or out of this unit's memory. The Sony CFD-G700CP portable stereo's remote commander does control the radio's entire manual and preset tuning features. The remote has Tune - and Tune + buttons for manual station tuning. When you press and hold either one of these buttons, the tuner will automatically find the next available station in descending or ascending station frequency order on either the FM or AM broadcast bands. The tuner will automatically scan for the next available strongest signal broadcast and will stop when it receives one. In addition, you can press the Tune -/+ buttons on the remote one key press at a time to locate any particular FM or AM frequency that you are looking for. For the FM band, the tuner proceeds up or down the frequency spectrum .1 MHz at a time with each press of either Tune button. On the AM band, channel step tuning proceeds up or down the frequency spectrum at 10 kHz increments. There are Preset – and Preset + buttons for selecting preset stations stored in this unit's memory. You must navigate preset stations in descending or ascending order one station at a time. There are Band and Mode buttons for selecting the tuner function directly, switching back and forth between the FM and AM broadcast bands, as well as changing FM stereo mode to mono reception if a FM radio station is received with excessive static or noise. The remote can raise or lower the volume to the desired listening level. The remote can activate or shut off the stereo's Power Drive Woofer bass enhancement feature by pressing the Woofer button. The Audio In key allows the user to select the audio component connected to the line input jack for playback. There is a "Sound" button to cycle through this unit's 5 preset sound modes. The remote commander contains all CD playback transport functions which include play, stop, pause, forward search, reverse search, and two skip buttons. There are Folder - and Folder + buttons to search MP3 CD folders. Please note that the remote commander can't control any of the cassette tape transport functions. The remote commander does not offer a numeric keypad. As a result, the remote control does not feature direct input preset station or CD track access. A 3.5mm stereo headphone jack for private listening sessions and 5 preset sound modes (ROCK, DANCE, SALSA, REGGAETON, and FLAT EQ setting to enhance the reproduction of classical music) to suit your musical tastes are thrown in as well. The Sony portable stereo operates on 8 D batteries, and 2 AA batteries for the supplied remote control. I recommend Duracell or Energizer alkaline batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life for this mobile stereo system. The battery compartment on the main unit consists of two rows of 4 DC battery terminals for placement of 8 D cell batteries. All batteries should be replaced when this unit's LED battery/operation indicator dims or the boombox ceases to respond to user commands. AC power is also available for this unit. A detachable AC power cord is supplied with the stereo. The batteries are automatically disengaged as a power source when this unit is plugged into a wall outlet. All batteries should be removed from this unit and remote commander if the stereo system will not be used for an extended period of time. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox provides outstanding FM/AM tuner reception results indoors or outdoors even under challenging reception based operating environments. An examination of the various sources of radio interference is a complex subject. Typically, most sources of radio interference come from within the home. In addition, radio interference may be caused by phenomenon occurring outside the home, in the immediate surrounding area of your home, deteriorating atmospheric weather events, seasonal conditions, tall buildings that obstruct or interfere with radio waves referred to as multipath distortion, solar activities i.e. sunspot activity, and/or interference from adjacent broadcast frequencies on the AM/FM bands. As a result, you may experience interference from nearby electronic equipment in your home such as computers, cell phones, TV's, cordless telephones, microwave ovens, etc. You may also experience interference from electrical motors or nearby power lines outside your home. Radio broadcasts may also be disturbed by an electrical storm. Competing broadcast stations that are adjacent to the station that you are trying to listen to may degrade your reception opportunities as well. The sun's solar flare activities may also disrupt radio transmissions at various times during the day. The Sony Boombox features an outstanding digital tuner with built-in memory for storage of up to 30AM/FM station presets. The digital tuner provides the most accurate and drift-free radio reception possible. This unit's digital tuner locks onto station frequencies with precision, while simultaneously reducing unwanted noise anomalies that often plague lesser performing portable stereos. For example, you can change an FM stereo broadcast to monaural reception if the FM program is received with excessive static or noise by pressing the FM Mode button on the remote commander or the main unit. Lastly, this unit includes a telescopic FM whip antenna and built-in AM ferrite bar antenna for enhanced reception performance under most circumstances. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox does not feature auto-reverse playback or have an auto stop mechanism. This Sony stereo is only compatible with Type I normal bias cassette tapes. The cassette recorder can playback pre-recorded cassettes one side at a time (single-direction playback). You must turn over the cassette to hear the next side. The cassette deck can also record music from this unit's FM/AM tuner, CD player and any audio component that is connected to the line input jack. For best cassette recording results, AC power should be using during recording sessions. Do not use tapes longer than 120 minutes in length. The cassette deck's play head, record head, erase head, capstan, and pinch rollers should be cleaned after approximately every 10 hours of use. The Sony XPLOD boombox is an excellent choice for all of your cassette playback and recording needs. When an audio CD is inserted into the CD player, the total number of tracks and total play time of the disc are displayed on the LCD display. For example, the LCD display will show the following: "19 78:28". This particular disc has 19 tracks with a play time of 78 minutes and 28 seconds. When you begin playback of the CD, the LCD will show the track number being played and the elapsed play time of the current track. Unfortunately, the LCD display does not show the remaining play time of the track or entire disc. The Sony CFD-G700CP portable stereo offers MP3 CD playback from the user's personal music collection. This unit can playback, shuffle, repeat, and provide program play modes of MP3 files and folders from a homemade CD-R/RW disc that is made on a computer. The built-in CD player can read and playback a maximum number of 256 MP3 files and folders on a user created disc from the user's own personal music library. The boombox is heavy and therefore, not easily portable because of it. The LCD display is small and should be backlit. I do wish it had even more amplifier power and an HD radio tuner built-in. The Power Drive Woofer lighting system is disabled when the sleep timer function is activated. The Power Drive Woofer becomes inactive when headphones are connected to this unit. Please note that the Power Drive Woofer on this model can be turned off, but the overall sound quality of this unit will be diminished when the super bass woofer is disengaged. Of course, this Sony boombox features a sturdy fold-down recessed carry handle for reliable transport of this unit to another destination. The sturdy carry handle can be neatly pushed down and tucked away into the main unit when it is no longer needed or when the Sony portable stereo is in a stationary position. The boombox does not offer dual disc playback, DVD media playback, or a microphone jack. You can also play tunes from your iPod, iPhone, Zune, Sony Walkman, or any other MP3 player via an auxiliary line input jack. You do not need to purchase any cable to connect your iPod to the Sony CFD-G700CP boombox. The 3.5mm stereo patch cable needed to make this connection between the stereo and your iPod is built-in to the Sony XPLOD boombox. However, you will need a Y-audio stereo patch cable to connect a TV or VCR to this unit. You can't play two audio sources connected to the line input jacks concurrently. The product dimensions are as follows: Width: 21-¾ inches, Height: 9-¾ inches, Depth: 14-5/8 inches, and Weight: 19 lbs. This unit includes a one year parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Sony XPLOD boombox offers exceptional tuning performance in both manual and preset station tuning modes for your radio listening interests or needs. The boombox remembers the last radio station tuned and volume level when it's powered off. This Sony boombox is reasonably priced for the audio quality and features that you get. Once you listen to this boombox, you will realize that Sony has redefined the boombox product category for the foreseeable future. The Sony XPLOD CFD-G700CP portable stereo has a sturdy construction to it, and should last for many years with proper care. It is important to compare and contrast the Sony CFD-G700CP portable stereo's feature set to its very competitive sibling by this manufacturer, the Sony CFD-G505 boombox. Both Sony XPLOD boomboxes are very close in terms of features, performance, physical appearance, and total system weight. Both Sony boomboxes offer the same amplifier output power at 20 watts (RMS). The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox offers superior sound quality compared to the Sony CFD-G505Black boombox. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox features a larger Power Drive Woofer than the other model. As a result, the Sony CFD-G700CP stereo produces bass output that is on par with much more expensive component stereo systems. The Sony CFD-G700CP stereo also features two tweeters for better reproduction of vocals and high pitched instruments. The Sony CFD-G505 stereo does not feature tweeter drivers at all. There are some other key differences between the two models as well. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox offers 2 auxiliary inputs for connection to additional optional audio components of your choice. However, the Sony CFD-G505 portable stereo only features 1 line input jack for connection to an MP3 player, computer, TV, etc. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox offers MP3 CD playback, but the Sony CFD-G505 boombox does not. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox provides the user with access to preset tuner stations and CD track access at only one station or track at a time. Conversely, the Sony CFD-G505 allows the user to directly input preset tuner stations and CD tracks with a numeric keypad on the supplied remote commander. The Sony CFD-G700CP boombox is compatible with DJ lighting equipment. When a compatible DJ lighting device, such as the American DJ D-Light Sync Pak Stage Lights, is connected to the Sony D-Light Sync Controller, the lighting device will react to the beats of the music produced by the Sony CFD-G700CP boombox. The Sony CFD-G505 boombox is not compatible with any DJ lighting equipment at all. It is my opinion that the Sony CFD-G700CP boombox offers similar sound quality to a stereo system with large Hi-Fi tower speakers attached, but the Sony CFD-G505 portable stereo is the best audio that you ever heard from a traditional boombox. The Power Drive Woofer on both models can be turned off, but the overall sound quality of both units will be diminished when the super bass woofer is disengaged. Both Sony boomboxes feature a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and Sony MDR series headphones should be used to obtain the best possible private listening session results. The Sony CFD-G700CP portable stereo is an outstanding portable audio accomplishment, with the utmost sophisticated sound quality for the most discerning music listener, and it is a boombox for the ages. Good Luck. Enjoy.
