I owned the previous version of this product for a number of years. I really liked the bass response. The new version is lacking in that respect. I do like the audio in jack for making cassettes from my computer.

I wish this model is made again with capabilities to play MP3 and also have a USB input to play music from phones or tablets, not just limiting to Iphone. The newer models look like neutral charcoal blocks.

We use these in the classrooms so they get a lot of use. Our budget is tight so the quality (they last well) and the price fit our needs.

If you rely on audiobooks for relaxation & entertainment and as I have a library of audiobooks on tape in addition to desire to listen to new releases on CDs this machine is the perfect solution. It is inexpensive & as it carries the Sony brand, is reliable and cost effective.

This replaced a vintage Sony boombox that lasted at least 25 years (we can't remember exactly when we bought it. That thing was taken everywhere, often exposed to the elements, even occasionally banged around a bit. Where else would we go for a new one than to Sony? Yes, it's smaller and doesn't have the bass of the older model; but that's fine. It takes up less space on our bedside table, where it will permanently reside and where we're not interested in a big, boomy sound. Based upon our previous experience and the gentler life this one will lead, we expect it to outlast the other one and, likely, us as well.

good little machine for the money. It's a Sony so it is very reliable but the size of the speakers leaves something to be desired. I am using it to play music for the classes I teach and I have to turn it up very high to have the msuic and words understood. Otherwise, great so far. have had it about 2 weeks.

nice radio, good pricing through Sony, speakers sound like tin cans. Having had prior Sony radios I thought everyone was exaggerating the lack of bass; they were not. Overall it is a quality built unit with good FM reception. I did not purchase for the CD or Cassette features, just to listen to the radio in my garage.

I love my new stereo! The sound is very crisp and clear, it has decent bass, the build quality and sound is very good for only $50. I would definitely go out and buy another one in the future!

We have SONY HD-TVs, Blu-ray/DVD players and an under cabinet kitchen AM/FM//CD player, count on SONY to provide a quality product and have not been disappointed. We have CDs and quite a few tapes and no longer had a way to play the tapes. The sound is good, mega boost is a plus and ollar for dollar this unit cannot be matched!

For those who still have cassette tapes this is a must purchase. Portability, AC/DC with built in transformer. I especially like the metal speaker grille, a nice touch.

I reviewed many other brands of portable radios before purchasing this one and was not disappointed. The other brands at the price of the Sony do not have many of the features this has. I wanted specifically a FM radio, cassette player and cd player, the CFD-SO5 had everything and more. The sound quality is very good for a small compact portable radio. The reviewers who labeled the sound quality as a "Con" should remember what you paid for, if you want concert sound quality you have to pay for it, for what this radio was designed for the sound quality is excellent. Sony AM/FM, cassette-Corder, CD player for under $50 is a great buy.

I purchased this item last week with very high hopes of getting a good sound quality for not alot of $$. I have to say that I do love the way this was designed, a real space saver and am happy that those of us who still listen to cassettes haven't been forgotten. It's a very simple, basic cd player. I am happy with the product, but by reading the reviews, I thought maybe the sound quality may be a bit better than it is. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't sound bad, I just expected more from what i read. If you are really into your music, you should think twice before purchasing this item. However, if you want to just have something to play your music on that sounds okay, then you should purchase. Good for back ground music for office or store, keeping in mind the lower the volume the better it sounds. Too soon to tell how well it will hold up, I've only had it for a week. Altho I am happy with it, even tho I expected better sound, and I would reccomend this to a friend, but for me, I think I would probably send it back if shipping charges weren't so high and purchase the other one that is similiar for the few extra bucks.

I've always owned Sony boom boxes. Never had any other brand. They last a long, long time, and these days, it feels like it is impossible to find a simple radio/CD/cassette player without a bunch of gimmicks, and at a good price for this quality. This model has satisfied our expectations. I bought one originally for my mother who is in her 60s and still likes to listen to old cassettes, but then I ended up getting one for our kitchen just so I can listen to the radio and CDs. It suits our simple needs and is very sturdy and pleasing in design.

This system is great. I have larger systems in use but wanted a "system" that I could move easily that also sounded decent. Tried an RCA and a memorex only to be turned off buy lose cases or thin sound. The Sony CFD-S05 is different. It is solid and has respectable specifications for the price. The amplifier circuit is robust for a boombox, just don't expect the room to vibrate. Thats not what this is for. It is a nice system and I bought a couple more and wrapped the boxes with plastic wrap and stowed them away in the basement. I don't want a system with a "dock" for any particular brand of MP3/4 players and these systems are getting scarce so there you go !

I have had two of these units and I have not been able to preset the stations on the radio. It seems like the instructions are either poorly written or many of these units are deffective. Also, because it is very difficult to tune in stations, it is very important for this feature to work properly
