I listen to books on CD's and I love this product. It is very stable as I listen in various circumstances. If I am in the middle of a CD, when I stop and come back it starts in the spot where I left off.

Off the charts studio sound quality, digital Mega Bass sound system, attractive appearance, full circle design, shuffle, repeat, resume, and bookmark program play modes. Just another excellent product from Sony. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 is without question the absolute best single-function portable CD player that Sony offers. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 includes an extensive high quality portable audio feature set. Those outstanding mobile CD playback features include: stereo reproduction, laser diode, a 1-bit D/A converter for awesome Sony sound, 3.5mm (1/8") stereo headphone output jack, internal headphone amplifier, Sony MDR-J0Z1 ear clip stereo headphones, G-shock protection for skip-free performance, 0-9 scale digital volume control, digital multi-function LCD display, automatic power off feature to conserve battery power, hold function to prevent accidental operation, disc compartment slide open switch, disc pivot placement holder, CD-R/RW playback, play/pause, stop, forward skip, and reverse skip disc transport controls, Sound/AVLS button, play mode control, AMS music search sensor, 8 CD playback modes including normal play, single track play, shuffle play, bookmark play, and repeat play for every disc playback mode, bookmark removal option, battery compartment cover, battery compartment, DC positive and negative battery terminals, 3V DC battery power rating, 4.5V DC input jack for optional Sony AC power adapter, 5mW + 5mW (@ 16 ohms) total system output power, product operating temperature range: 5C-35C (41F-95F), Sony trademark logo, Walkman trademark logo, CD-DA trademark logo, Sony black, red, and yellow product advertisement sticker highlighting Digital Mega Bass, G-PROTECTION, and CD-R/RW playback product features, F.C.C. compliance certification statement, serial number, and this item comes with operating instructions that are printed on the back of the product packaging. The LCD provides the following system information: play mode, elapsed play time, total track number, current track number, bookmark indicator, volume level, 3-stage battery life indicator (Full battery, Weak battery, and Depleted flashing battery icons), no disc indicator, and selected Mega Bass sound mode. The Sony Walkman CD Player utilizes an Automatic Volume Limiter System (AVLS) volume distortion reduction system. The AVLS function prevents the portable player from becoming excessively loud during CD playback, and it maintains consistently clear sound quality. The AVLS volume reduction system can be enabled or disabled at any time by pressing and holding the Sound/AVLS button, if desired. It is possible to turn off the bass boost feature. The Sony Walkman CD player D-EJ011 features a digital Mega Bass sound system with two distinct levels of bass enhancement for the listener's enjoyment. The user can go back and forth between the two levels by pressing the Sound/AVLS button during CD playback, but the feature can be disabled. A third consecutive press of the Sound/AVLS button during playback turns off the Mega Bass low frequency sound enhancement feature. You will see the following information in the LCD with each press of the Sound/AVLS button (Sound 1, Sound 2, and No Indicator). When the "Sound" indicator disappears from the LCD, the Mega Bass feature is turned off. All of my CD's sound wonderful on this portable, with clear vocals, exceptional midrange frequency response, and well-defined bass performance. I have not been able to make this Sony CD player skip during playback under any circumstances, with the G-shock protection enabled or disabled. The Sony Walkman CD player D-EJ011 is a great audio companion for the morning commute on the bus, train, ferry, cable car, taxi, or airplane. Additionally, this item is extraordinarily well-suited for use on vacation, business travel, in the hotel room, a morning jog, daily exercise routine, long walks, trips to the beach, at home private listening sessions, or when you're sitting poolside on a humid summer day taking a sip from that refreshing cool glass of iced tea. The Sony Walkman CD player proves to be a versatile performer with respect to the variety of locations that it can be used effectively in. In order to achieve audiophile grade sound reproduction from this unit, you should disable the G-shock anti-skip protection system during non-active use. The Sony Walkman CD Player's anti-skip electronic shock protection system prevents this unit's laser beam pickup from skipping or missing parts of a song during active use. Active use includes activities such as walking, jogging, running, or exercising while holding the portable player in hand. The Sony CD player will also be subject to excessive vibration if it is used in a moving vehicle. Under normal circumstances, a portable CD player's optical pick-up mechanism would be unable to focus on continuously reading the playback disc during active use. However, the Sony Walkman CD Player incorporates an electronic buffer system that allows it to store music contained on an audio CD into memory so that the portable does not skip portions of a track while the unit is subjected to active use. The electronic buffer memory system allows the Sony CD player in most cases enough time to recover playback of the disc should it experience an unexpected violent movement that would normally cause disruption or stoppage of disc playback. The system's G-Protection is set to on by default. The G-shock protection feature can be disabled by holding down the forward skip button and then the play/pause button for approximately 3 seconds while a CD is loaded into the disc compartment in stop mode. The LCD will display "G-off" briefly when the anti-shock system is disabled. The LCD will display "G-on" for a few seconds when the anti-shock protection is activated again by using the same procedure that disabled it. The supplied ear clip headphones offer very decent sound quality. However, the audio playback of this unit can be improved upon dramatically in my experience with an upgrade to the Sony MDR-XB500 Extra Bass headphones. The Sony Extra Bass stereo headphones produce copious amounts of detailed dynamic bass when combined with the playback accuracy of the Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011. The Sony Walkman is compatible with any pair of wired or wireless headphones that offer a 3.5mm (1/8") mini plug connector. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 can be connected to any tabletop radio or stereo receiver as long as the stereo component features an RCA style or 3.5mm AUX input jack. If your radio has RCA red and white phono connectors, then you can connect the headphone jack on the Sony Walkman to the RCA line input jack on the tabletop radio with a Y-audio stereo patch cable. However, if your radio only offers a 3.5mm (1/8") line input jack, then you can connect the headphone jack on the Sony Walkman to the 3.5mm line input jack on the radio with a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm stereo extension cable. Make sure to select the AUX input on the radio or stereo receiver, and press the play button on the Sony Walkman to hear the Sony Walkman on the connected component's speaker system after all connections have been made. The Sony Walkman's headphone output jack can also be connected to any pair of powered speakers sporting a 3.5mm/RCA line input jack in place of stereo headphones for additional entertainment options. Moreover, the Sony Walkman can be attached to a car stereo system's cassette deck with the purchase of an optional car kit. The Sony Walkman CD Player is powered by 2 AA cell batteries, or it can be powered with an optional Sony AC-E45A AC power adapter. The Sony Walkman CD Player offers excellent battery life performance for your advanced portable audio mobile power needs. There is no definitive answer as to the actual length of time that the batteries will last. The battery specifications provided by Sony in the user manual are only approximate, are only offered under perfect factory operating conditions, and are only accurate if you use Sony branded LR6 AA alkaline batteries. Your Sony Walkman will have different battery life results because it is not likely to be used exclusively at the Sony factory. Battery life longevity will also vary by battery manufacturer and battery chemistry. Of course, the longer the duration the Sony portable CD player is powered on, and as the volume level increases during a playback session, battery life will be shortened accordingly. Moreover, battery life is consumed more quickly when this unit's G-shock protection system is enabled. Proceed with caution. Personally, I recommend Duracell Coppertop, Duracell Ultra, Energizer Max alkaline batteries, or Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA cell batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life of this Sony Walkman CD Player. Stay away from cheap no name label alkaline or carbon zinc batteries. In my experience, these unknown brand batteries are of inferior quality, last a very short time span, and have a tendency to leak in the product packaging, and/or battery compartment. Make sure to never mix old and new batteries, different battery types, and different battery brands. Remove the single-use alkaline batteries from the battery compartment if the Sony Walkman is not going to be used for an extended period of time. The lithium battery type features a leak-resistant construction and may be more suitable for long term storage in extreme temperatures when compared to a standard alkaline battery. The batteries should be replaced with new ones when the Sony Walkman consistently outputs subpar sound or no sound at all. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 is compatible with the following AA 1.5V battery types: carbon zinc batteries, alkaline batteries, lithium batteries, and NiMH rechargeable batteries (1.2 V). When purchasing batteries for this unit, it is a good idea to check the date on the package. A fresh set of alkaline batteries should have a best if used by date of at least 6 or 7 years ahead of the date of purchase. In the case of lithium batteries, the package date may be up to 15 years ahead of the current date of purchase. Battery life is determined by many factors and that is why individual results vary. Such factors include the type of music being played, the volume level being used, and ambient room or outdoor temperature. Battery performance will be decreased if this unit is powered by alkaline batteries in extremely cold temperatures. You should always have a spare set of batteries nearby in case audio performance deteriorates in the middle of your favorite song. Please note that a lithium AA battery is approximately 33% lighter in weight when compared to a standard alkaline AA battery. As a result, the total system weight of the Sony Walkman will be affected by the type of batteries used in the battery compartment. Customers should be aware that the Sony Walkman CD player D-EJ011 does not offer an FM/AM tuner, MP3 CD playback, a wired remote controller, or a digital audio output jack. The Sony Walkman CD player features excellent build quality, lightweight design, and a vibrant silver, black, and gray exterior finish. The main unit product dimensions are as follows: Width: 5-5/8", Height: 1-1/8", Depth: 5-5/8", (139.8 x 27.9 x 139.8 mm) and Weight: 6.7 ounces (188 g). This product includes a 90-day parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 does not offer direct track access selection. However, specific tracks can be selected in ascending or descending order one track at a time by pressing the forward and reverse skip buttons respectively during disc playback. In addition, the AMS music sensor search function allows the user to fast forward or reverse search to a particular point in a track by pressing and holding the forward and reverse skip buttons during playback of a particular track. The Sony Walkman CD Player offers a resume play mode that will allow you to pick up playback from the exact point in the track when playback was last stopped. Disc playback begins from track 1 when the play button is pressed for more than 2 seconds while in stop mode. The Sony Walkman does not offer a separate power button. Nonetheless, the Sony CD player powers on as soon as the play/pause button is pressed. Whether its audio books, heavy metal music, or opera, this Sony Walkman CD Player D-EJ011 will fulfill your portable audio compact disc playback needs at any time and with great sound quality. Good Luck. Enjoy.

While waiting in car for friends as they shop, go to doctor appointments, or anytime I need to kill time while waiting in my parked car. I use re-chargeable batteries and I can listen to two CD's (about 90" each) w/o the batteries losing all their power.
