The FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera has an expanded ISO sensitivity range up to 409600 for capturing stunning images even in near-total darkness.
The FX6 uses a Fast Hybrid AF system that incorporates intelligent tracking and on-sensor phase-detection for precise subject tracking across almost the entire frame. It also features Real-time Eye AF and Face Detection for accurate focus on people.
The built-in electronic Variable ND Filter on the FX6 can be controlled from 1/4 ND to 1/128 ND linearly, or set to auto. This feature is ideal for changeable environments, eliminating the need to change filters as lighting conditions change or to maintain your depth of field.
The FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera offers a wide range of professional interfaces, including 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs, a remote interface, TC connectors for multi-camera sync and SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps (USB 3.2). It also has Wi-Fi connectivity for advanced wireless production features such as remote control via smartphones or tablets.
The main body, covers, and top handle of the FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera are made from a lightweight magnesium alloy. This provides high strength and durability with minimum weight, ideal for real-world shooting.

Having previously used a FS7 the menus are easy to use. However a new user might just find the menu very long winded to use until you know where to find the required settings! Over all the body quality is good with a huge range of equipment add-ons available to suit the users requirements. With my work I require quick tracking of moving subjects (animals and birds) and this camera excels with quick lock on. The footage gained is as you would expect. The only let down and I cannot work out why Sony fitted such a cheap and flimsy monitor support. Like most others with this camera I have had to buy an aftermarket bracket to support the monitor.

PROS & CONS pros: v good AF; good low light; nice & small; cons: 2nd base ISO too high at 12000; fiddly controls; extremely expensive native batteries.

If I understand it, due to the lack of Bravia sinc, the camera cannot be controlled (record on/off) via DJI Focus Pro. It is incomprehensible to me that the smaller brother fx3 supports this feature and therefore has support for Dji Focus pro as well. Even the older brother sony A7s II. Both are cheaper devices and have this feature I don't understand why sony can't add it to this camera as well.

The FX6 fits perfectly with my workflow. It gives me the features of a cinema camera in a smaller form factor but without being too intimidating.

Incredible camera, beautiful image and super easy to use. Can't complain about much with this camera. The only thing I wish we had was a couple more options like we do with the little brother of the FX3, 120fps in a normal mode that's not S&Q to gain audio and then being able to plug in a 3.5mm mic on the body! Otherthan that, sensational camera!

I bought this a month ago had only a few hours of testing and learning how the system works And great results are achieved. I've always loved the outcome of this cam. I will be posting some clips online soon.

At a budget friendly level professional video camera, this has all the bells and whistles that I'm after for the productions I work on and in a form that makes filming with it fluid.

I love the camera, but `I'm unable to get raw output to ninja v, it works with my a7s3 but not this camera. I followed all of the instruction and the service team can't figure it out either

This is one of the best purchases we have made to help grow our video production company. The camera is great. Our only feedback is that the body feels like it has mainly been made of some type of plastic. a few bits seem cheaply made but the overall performance really is unbeatable at this price point. We are very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about making a purchase!

Incredible camera, especially if you're a run and gun videographer like me. Literally the only other thing that I could even think to want from this camera would be a slightly larger sensor so you could reliably do anamorphic lenses in 4K, but that is serious nitpicking.

I fell in love with this camera the first time I saw it. And then it was only a question of when I will buy it. And I was. And I am more than happy that I own this camera. It is a wonderful tiny little camera with big compatibilities.

I recently filmed&directed an 8-part natural history series for Channel 5 and as the series required both actuality with ecologists and scientists as well as wildlife photography (macro and long lens) the FX6 proved to be the most versatile camera I have ever worked with. Its ability to capture cinematic documentary style sequences and be portable and light enough to trek into and out of the forest every day only served to make it even more attractive as a camera set up. The internal ND filters were brilliant in maintaining accurate exposure without the need for a matte box (a great help in difficult to film situations) and its ability to quickly switch from S&Q and Cache during wildlife filming to GVs and actuality-led sequences allowed for fast capture of scenes. It is especially impressive in low light environments. I used a variety of lenses throughout production across a wide range of brands (Canon, Tamron, Sony) and all worked exceptionally well with the FX6. The Sony wireless microphone system through the hot shoe mount helped to reduce the inconvenience of mounting two receivers and stripped down, the camera body was light enough to use on both a gimbal and slider effectively. A pretty remarkable little camera (that could). I was so impressed with its performance, latitude and picture quality, I purchased one after production wrapped!

It took a year to the day to get here, but it was well worth the wait. As our first "new" camera in 12 years, getting used to all the options for sLog and HDR is quite daunting, but the imagery this thing makes, from such a small package, is amazing. I was able to color balance my FS100 to the FX6 so I can now do 2-camera shoots and streaming. The touch focus is amazing. Bokah superb. Best part the automatic variable ND. Only downside is the size of the files! But I'm not complaining. Can't wait to do a Chromakey job.

Love my FX6. Good dynamic range, great features, and rugged. You can get the same image from an FX3 or A7SIII, but the quality of life stuff is just so worth it. I find myself using the XLR inputs and internal NDs so much.

I teach a digital cinematography class where we started shipping in November around 50 FX6 cameras a month to our students. The response from the students has been overwhelming. Incredible feature rich camera that is setting a new bar for quality and features from a mid-range digital cinematography camera.

Excellent image quality and ease of use. Terrible screen support, I ended up going the Zacuto route with excellent results and have stoped using my FS7 except for American jobs where I need to shoot NTSC which unfortunately the FX6 doesn?t really do. I would have paid double for the inclusion of a global shutter but overall I?m really happy and would hire a Venice for bigger jobs. The product is great, but the customer service at Adorama is a nightmare. I did not receive all of my items and they blame the carrier and it has been time consuming to get it resolved (which it still is not resolved.)

In the days of Blackmagic and other competitive priced cameras, it's truly refreshing to see such a solid product at this price. Without a doubt, this blows the Komodo out of the water.

A great little camera. I was going to buy the FX9 but realized the smaller package was useful since I was used to shooting with DSLRs and this would be a little bit more of a physical operating feel like the DSLR but with more stability and heft...

A joy to operate. No XLR on body, the weak monitor hinge and lack of the A7siii's autofocus being the only minor complains about an otherwise awesome camera.

The Sony FX6 Cinema Camera is the smaller-yet-capable version of Sony’s FX9 cinema camera. Boasting up to 4K120p shooting and 15+ stops of dynamic range, this camera is designed for pro-level video shooters who demand top-tier specs in a body that is lighter than most other professional video cameras. Sony’s S-Cinetone gamma curve delivers cinematic tones and colors, and a 627-point autofocus system ensures quick, reliable focus, even in harsh lighting or busy scenes. 16-bit RAW output is available via SDI, offering superior precision and flexibility for pro-level films. Whether you’re on a solo production or looking to add a camera to an existing pro workflow, the FX6 is an excellent, lightweight choice loaded with specs filmmakers will love.
The FX6 features the same BIONZ XR processor found across many of Sony’s flagship cameras, paired with a 10.2-megapixel Full-Frame Exmor R sensor. This combination paves the way for a fast 627-point Phase-Detection Autofocus system that has face and eye tracking and quick sensor readouts that minimize rolling shutter. This Exmor R Sensor captures excellent detail in both shadows and highlights, offering up to 15+ stops of dynamic range. 4K60p DCI recording is available in addition to standard UHD 4K120p and 1080p240 slow motion.

Users can shoot with Sony’s S-Cinetone gamma curve that offers outstanding skin tones, softer tones, and cinematic colors suitable for professional-quality films. S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3.Cine are also available and can streamline the post-processing workflow to match other video cameras in the Sony lineup.

Electronic Variable ND Filter
The FX6 comes with electronically integrated variable ND filters. Users can either set them manually or use automatic mode to ensure their footage stays properly exposed in variable lighting conditions. The ND filters can be adjusted between ¼ and 1/128, allowing you to maintain depth of field by darkening footage with the built-in ND rather than adjusting aperture. Additionally, this helps lighten your kit by eliminating the need for an extensive collection of ND filters in multiple sizes for different lenses.
_49686.jpg)
4-channel audio recording is available with Dual XLR inputs, a 2-channel multi-interface shoe input, and a stereo mic that is built into the top handle of the FX6. This allows users to record with an external microphone while simultaneously capturing ambient sounds near the camera.
_77075.jpg)
An isolated heat dissipation system that includes a silent fan and large ventilation ducts comes equipped on the FX6. The user can switch between Auto, Minimum, and Off in Recording depending on the situation. This allows the FX6 to shoot continuously for hours and helps keep the camera cool, minimizing sensor noise from overheating.
Regardless of the type of set you intend to use the FX6 on, there are numerous ways to record and save footage. Both SDI and HDMI outputs are available for live productions, giving the shooter more options for broadcasting. Timecode in/out helps users sync footage from multiple cameras in post, and built-in WiFi lets users access the camera for monitoring or control via the Content Browser Mobile App. And for users who aim to create films with their FX6, the camera is Netflix-approved.

The FX6 is considered the “run-and-gun” version of Sony’s flagship FX9 cinema camera, and it comes in at just 2 pounds, less than half the weight of its big brother. This makes the FX6 an excellent choice for a camera to add to a professional setup, but its portability really shines when operated by a single user. A 3.5” touchscreen LCD monitor offers access to the most important settings for quick adjustments when shooting on the go. The body itself is made of a magnesium alloy chassis, and the buttons have an updated seal that helps to reduce dust and moisture. Finally, Sony has used a removable handle that allows users to quickly switch between handheld and shooting on a gimbal or drone.
The FX6 and FX9 are two very similar cameras that share many features with a few differences that appeal to different types of users. The FX6 is a no-brainer for solo shooters, as its size and ergonomics are well-suited to a run-and-gun style of shooting. The FX6 is also capable of capturing 4K120p, compared to 4K60p on the FX9. You’ll also experience slightly better low-light performance with the FX6; the FX9 is best for productions that demand the highest image quality. The FX9 is equipped with a 6K image sensor that downsamples to 4K footage that can be noticeable on a large display. The FX9 also has Genlock, additional SDI outputs, and ENG ergonomics. The bottom line is this: pick up the FX9 if you work on a team to capture TV, broadcast, or documentaries where the sharpest footage is absolutely necessary. If you work solo, plan to shoot a lot of slow motion, or intend on using a gimbal and shoot on the go, the FX6 is the right choice.
