Have not used it as much as I wanted to

Bought this many years ago and used it for back up video, plus the underwater casing is a added plus for our videos.

Nice little camera

Nice little camera packed with features. Shame it doesn't give an alternative to UStream for live videos Could also benefit from some sort of noise reduction feature, being an action cam

not a proof camera

I used it in a swimming pool with the waterproof case but unfortunately the water leaked inside it and the camera stopped working. I took it to the agent in Bahrain (ASHRAF) they said its not repairable. very disappointed my camera cant be used even as a spare part.

No Connection to Samsung Note 4

I bought this to capture video of my family and motorcycling. My main concern is the lack of connection between my smartphone and the camera. The camera can connect to android and ios devices but fails to advertise the fact that only certain phones are compatible. Wi-Fi, NFC.....it doens't matter. I am sorely disappointed. Don't get me wrong...Sony products are great- It is the interfacing and communication with other devices that is the problem. Lack of support has always been an issue. I am a huge fan of the PS4 but as usual-- had the right idea building it with the gamer in mind but it is slowly going back to Sony's old bad habits. Seriously-- PS4 Pro won't be able to play BluRay movies? 1st gen PS4 can't play music CD? XBOX One now includes backwards capability? Slimmer doens't mean better. People want options and the ability to use multiple devices. Give us that ability with the action cam.

All good so far!

I bought this camera just a few weeks ago, and have yet to make real use of it. However, the on-board handbook (which can also be downloaded from the Sony website) has been helpfully straightforward, whilst I await the delivery of a wrist strap to secure the camera for action.

Good image quality but major issues

Really happy with the image quality and LiveView remote but want to use the camera for kayaking. The supplied (SPK-AS2) case is rated for a 5m depth so I thought it would be ok to mount on a kayak. Reading Sony documentation it appears that I need either the SPK-AS1 or MPK-AS3 Underwater housing as the supplied case is not recommended for pressurised/flowing water e.g. water from a tap or for marine sports. I purchased an MPK-AS3 case but that documentation states that I need to grease the 'O' ring to ensure waterproof capabilities but no grease is supplied. As far as I am aware Sony also don't sell the grease or replacement 'O' rings so after a year, assuming the 'O' ring has not been breached (no grease) I cannot buy a replacement 'O' ring from Sony and have to buy a new housing.

Great product, very poor support and mounts

Bought this a year ago. Great picture quality and features but also software problems. Received only one update and was left with no further support from Sony since. Strap mount broke in my first try with my bike. Finally sold it and that was my last sony product. Already sold xperia phones and photocamera :-)

Sony AS100VW

Already owned a Sony AS20 and thought the results were excellent, so I thought I would upgrade to the AS100. So far I am even more impressed, I took it on holiday to Portugal and found some of the features great to use. I also purchase the deep dive water proof case.

Underwater use

I use the HDR 100V at least five times a month underwater from 30 ft to 110 ft depth. No leaks works perfectly. It provides excellent colour down to 30 ft then everything is blue. Sony needs to have available a light system for this camera so true colour can be shown at depth. I wanted to download the software to enable my i phone tyo work with the wi fi, but its such a lengthy process getting an apple account etc why not just make it available direct from Sony. Great camera though. Underwater sounds picked up easily

What a great value

I've owned this camera for a few weeks now. It's much more than I expected (and I read many reviews and watched many videos for this and competing products before buying) . It's ignited my desire to get back in to hobbyist editing again. Well-priced. Wide range of accessories (at the Sony store and 3rd-party). Good free Sony video/camera software. No buyers remorse here. Will look to Sony again in the future.

Small, Light, Great Quality and Steady

The camera is small without being fiddly, the video quality is excellent, the audio is actually in stereo unlike a lot of the competition, however the key feature is the Steady Shot really works well. I'd buy it for this feature alone - my ski footage is now better and my in car footage has no bumps - it's magic! Waterproofness is a bonus as is the use of remotes/mobile phone etc. The software is dedicated which normally is a problem but genuinely not a bad effort. Only downsides is the battery doesn't last as long as some of the competition however they're easy and quick to change, spare batteries are easy to find and cheap. Thoroughly recommended.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

Great small camera with big camera picture and sound. It even fits in your shirt pocket. Mine is the: HDR-AS30VW. There was no option to register this model on Sony's Web Site. If you want to mount this camera on a tripod you must use the waterproof case to mount it. Also you cannot edit or delete a video or portion of a video. Your only two options are: all or none. To erase you must reformat the memory card. Over all I am very happy with this video camera.

Great Purchase!

First off this is a sony product. What has sony made that sucks? Nothing! This camera does everything I wanted it to do. No its not a cheaper version of a go pro because they have a 4k camera as well for the same price of a go pro. People like me are Just sony people and thats why I purchased the action cam! Awesome product!

Overall its a good piece of kit

Overall this camera does things well, the images a very good, the image stabilisation is great and the microphones built in work well. I would like to see and improvement in still photos but its not a main priority for this camera. The thing that has really annoyed me however is the mounts. I'm a road cyclist and wanted to use it during races, however mounting it in an aerodynamic place was difficult. Originally I purchased a cheap gopro mount with an adapter for the tripod mount but it didn't work that well due to the vibrations. As the bike mount by Sony wasn't versitlie enough I purchased the roll bar mount. This was a total waste of money as it wouldn't grip the bars well enough. I've now ended up having to settle for the handlebar mount from Sony which is very good, just I can't mount the camera on the rear of the bike.

A great camera

I already own an HDR-AS15 and think it's a brilliant camera. The AS100V improves on the original design with GPS and splashproof case. Picture quality is still amazing and I prefer the form factor above that of the leading competitor.

Fantastic Action Camera

Image quality - The Image quality of the AS100 is stunning and you can also switch between two different types of colour modes (Vivid or Neutral). I am not saying for one minute that the GoPro quality is bad however I would say the Sony edges the quality. Features - Image Stabilisation is one of the key features of the camera and I have to say it works fantastically well and just reduces those bumps on the road that I find annoying with other cameras when mounted to handlebar mounts. GPS - the inbuilt GPS works very well and once my footage has been uploaded to Play Memories I can add a little map of my route & Speed/ distance. Slow Motion - also a great inclusion and can go down to 240fps at 480p. The only real difference here is that Sound can also be recorded at this speed on the Sony AS100. Ease of Use - The AS100 is a very easy camera to use with one large stop/ start record button on the back which doubles up as the select button. Then there are two buttons on the side which are used to flick through the menu and settings. I would highly recommend this camera as it is full of features and you will not be disappointed with the quality.

Good and Bad

All cameras in this segment have their strengths and weaknesses. The competition is popular but has poor battery life, blows the colors out, and the form factor has its strengths and weaknesses. I have both the competitor and the Sony with the wrist remote. I would disagree with the other comment on the form factor. The linear orientation is great on a helmet, side of the car, fishing pole, etc All the areas the competition is weak. The perpendicular orientation of the competition is weak in these areas but great against the body or against a flat object. Once again it all depends on how you want to use it. Chest mount is available. Another mount available for the Sony and not the competitor is the shoulder strap mount that lets you mount the camera to a backpack or camera bag. I haven't purchased it yet but it looks great. The lack of field of view options can be limiting on the Sony compared to the competition however, the GPS and image stabilization are excellent features that depending on your needs may outweigh the extra wide or wide vertical options provided by the others. The battery is significantly better on the Sony. I find the color truer on the Sony but poorer in low light conditions. The GPS and Image stabilization, wrist remote, and great battery life make the Sony a great option if you want something that will record a more typical camcorder image. http://youtu.be/gbOASlm7bLQ some video the Sony Action Cam on my dogs back. It's a bit too jerky to really evaluate the camera but right now it's all I have.

Worst purchase I've made in years.

I bought this camera because I always liked Sony, I thought the color reproduction was better than the GoPro and it looked better mounted on a motorcycle helmet than the GoPro. I specifically bought this to record my brother and my motorcycle trip to Europe. Unfortunately, when I used it, it kept shutting itself off after 15-20 minutes (sometimes sooner). The battery was fully charged and I had plenty of memory. I wouldn't find out it was off until I got off the bike and checked it. To make matters worse, EVERY TIME it shut itself off, it failed to finish writing the video to the flash drive and it was therefore corrupted. I could not check the recordings until I got home. When I got back to the States and tried to watch our videos, almost EVERY VIDEO WAS CORRUPTED!!! I changed flash drive every day as a safety precaution and all but 1 was corrupted. NO VIDEO!!! My brother and I are in our 60's and this was a bucket list trip. We will never be able to do it again. When I called Sony about the problem, they kept telling me over and over and over that I should re-format my flash drives and they should work. How does that bring back my lost video? The problem wasn't with the flash drives because I tested EACH ONE before I left for the trip. Since i bought the camera a few months before my trip, my 30-day warrantee had expired. They told me that for $90 they would take a look at it. Big deal!!! I doubt seriously that they would have fixed it, so I decided NOT to throw more money into. It sat in my drawer for 6 months. We planned to go snorkeling on a vacation in December and I thought, what the heck - I'll give it another try. I wanted some under water video. It is supposed to be good for something like 6-9 feet under water. That's a joke, also. I held the camera just under the surface to video some fish. It stopped after about 30 seconds. I opened it up and it was soaked inside. This is not waterproof at all. This camera is still not even a year old and I cannot afford to risk losing any more vacation videos. Soon as I can get the money together, I'm going to buy a different camera. Any model would be better. If I sound disgruntled, it's because I am. The camera is junk, their service is just as bad. DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA!!! BUY ANYTHING ELSE!!!

I wanted great quality and Sony has it.

I used the Sony camcorder mostly while deep sea fishing last Summer. I have great action pictures of my fishing trips from when I left the harbor at 6;00 am, watching the sun peek over the horizon, fighting the many fish we caught, and the return trip at the end of the day. It gives me such detailed footage that I can share with friends and family. Thank you very much Sony for helping me make an excellent choice.

Extremely Satisfied

By Danny78

Ok, I have no idea why everyone is bashing this camera so I'm going to try to write an honest review about it. I've had the camera for 2-3 months and so far I have taken it mountain biking, zip lining, snorkeling, scuba diving and cave exploring. I probably have recorded 10-15 hours of video in total. This is my first action camera and I am by no means a video/photography professional. I am more tech savvy than most, however. --Looks and Form-- I think the form has pros and cons depending on...

The Sony HDR-AS100V Splashproof POV Action Cam (White) is designed for point-of-view (POV) shooting during action sports including skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, motocross, skydiving, mountain biking and other outdoor adventure sports. It supports up to Full HD 1080/60p XAVC S video at 50 Mbps. It also supports other shooting modes including multiple slow motion modes. You can shoot 1280 x 720p slow motion video at 100 or 120 fps and 800 x 480 slow motion video at 200 or 240 fps. The camera can also capture 13.5MP still images when using the photo mode.

The HDR-AS100V features built-in Wi-Fi with One Touch NFC pairing capability. This means that Wi-Fi and NFC enabled smartphones and tablets can pull optimized movies and photos from the HDR-AS100V without a cable. Once the video is copied onto your mobile device, you can use its 3G or 4G mobile broadband connection to email movies to friends and family or upload your footage to social media sites like Facebook and YouTube. The HDR-AS100V also features built-in GPS, which allows you to add a geographical narrative to your movies and photos.
br>Sony includes a ruggedized waterproof housing with the HDR-AS100V. For added convenience, the waterproof housing has a universal tripod mount. Plus, the camera body includes a tripod mount accessory and it is splash proof as well. The camera's housing is waterproof down to a depth of 16.4' and shockproof from falls up to 5'. The camera is also dirt and dust resistant, which makes it nearly impervious to mud, snow, rain, sand and grime. The HDR-AS100V is equipped with a 170deg. ultra-wide angle ZEISS Tessar lens and a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor as well.

Other convenient features on the HDR-AS100V include HDMI connectivity and a built-in stereo microphone for capturing high-quality audio. It's outfitted with a card slot that supports Memory Stick Micro cards and microSD/SDHC cards. The card slot supports expandable external memory for virtually endless recording. To compensate for camera shake that's typical when shooting POV sports action, the HDR-AS100V even features SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode.

Not only can you check viewing angles on the wrist-mounted color monitor, you can also start or stop recording on 5 cameras, as well as make setup changes to all units at once

Advanced Bionz X processor with 50Mbps high bit rate data transfer to turn fast action into smooth motion and HD footage

  • Enjoy pro functions and editing ease: Get professional results with easy-to-use editing tools like those for pro cameras. Select from "Vivid" image quality for brilliant, powerful Action Cam color scenes, or "Neutral" for more natural flat-toned color
  • Upside-down Flip Capture: Even when the Action Cam is shooting from an upside-down position - for instance, when attached to a vehicle - the user can choose a vertical image inversion (upside-down flip) setting prior to operation. Thus, the camera can capture a movie image in regular orientation
  • More convenient connectivity thanks to Wi-Fi and NFC: NFC support lets you connect to smartphones. Thanks to NFC, you only need to touch devices to connect and no complex setup is required when connecting to Android smartphones and tablets
  • Compatible with Memory Stick Micro and Micro SD/SDHC: The memory card slot accepts Memory Stick Micro (M2) and Micro SD/SDHC Memory Card (class 4 or higher) memory cards. Choose the card best suited to shooting requirements and compatibility with your PC
  • Tally lights: The new Action Cam is equipped with a second tally light on top of the cam, in addition to the previously provided light on the back of the unit. Thanks to this extra light, users can now easily check the cam status (recording start/stop) from various directions
  • High Speed REC: Use footage shot in high-speed modes for smooth slow motion. Also combine slow-speed and regular-speed footage
  • GPS Data Overlay: Show GPS data stored in Action Cam to display your route and speedometer readings on screen
  • Ultra wide-angle ZEISS Lens (170deg. field of view): The ultra wide-angle ZEISS Tessar lens provides a spacious 170deg. viewing angle - the perfect way to capture breathtaking scenes of expansive ski slopes and winding mountain trails
  • Power up with USB Charging/USB Power Supply: Simply charge from a PC via a USB port. You can charge while using the Action Cam when you use the optional AC-UD10 AC Adapter
