I bought this camera from new and have been very pleased with the results. The HD picture quality is excellent and is complimented by the high quality sound. It is excellent value for money. My only reservation is that it has no viewfinder and when filming in bright light it is sometimes difficult to see images on the screen.

I was looking for something to use for family videos. At this price this is a good product sound and zoom are OK for everyday use. Battery life is not that great.

I bought this in April 2014 as a last minute buy before travelling to Manila for my sons; wedding. Sadly I hadn't had time to get to know the camcorder, but still managed to get some video which turned out really well.

I bought my camcorder about three months ago. In good light the picture is great but in low light the picture becomes grainy and poor. It is not as it is described by Sony. Apart from that it is great camera.

SD card easy to put in but need tweezers to pull it out as it is quite a stiff fit - probably just mine. Soon got to remember that photo button on top, and video button at back.

The clarity and quality of video clips are good and photos ok, but could do with a view finder as well as a screen as when sunny it is difficult to see what is being videoed.

I bought this for a holiday in the Maldives and made my first Bluray video of the results. It was excellent. The only slight criticism is that I find it hard to press the button to turn it off without jogging the camera. I found it much easier to keep my old video camera steady as it had an eye level viewfinder.

This camera is a joy to use and outstanding value for money. Excellent features and a really good zoom lens. Would recommend buying an extra battery and stand-alone charger, so that if you are on holiday and out and about you'll be sure that you have sufficient capacity ( although the on screen menu tells you the remaining battery life ). Storage: I use the Sony 32GB SD card and that provides me with ample storage for the movie clips until I copy them to my computer for editing. All in all a great product - Well done Sony !

It took me a while to convince myself that i "needed" a camcorder, but i am pleased that i finally took the plunge. This Sony model has proven to be excellent in both the quality of the picture and, what surprised me more, was the quality of recorded sound, a film i took of two musician friends really did full justice to their work and, for me, rates as a very acceptable music DVD. The only reason i dropped a couple of stars is because of the very small "fiddly" controls, but not a major problem.

I bought the Sony HDR-CX280E as we were going on a holiday in Australia. I was surprised how easy it was to use, although it takes a little time to get used to focusing and zooming, and my first few efforts included shots of my feet as I forgot to turn the recording off before closing the screen! I was really pleased with the quality of the scenes I shot, they were clear, bright and I was really pleased to have bought this camcorder. The sound quality isn't brilliant and you do have to speak up, somewhat, so you can hear what is being said whilst recording. It would have been nice for an SD card (even one with a low capacity) to be provided within the purchase package, but they can be bought relatively cheaply on the internet. I also found it a good idea to buy an additional battery and always have this charged up. All in all, and excellent camcorder, which I would thoroughly recommend.

Works well, good battery life. Picture and video and sound quality all decent for amateur but not what I hoped they would be. Screen is good, fairly steady. Since Sony doesn't allow us to mention the price we paid, I'd just say - shop around!

Fits in my jacket pocket, is easy to use and takes good HD movies with a very usable zoom. Good value although a memory card was not included in the price. Perhaps the battery life could be better.

I find this little Sony quite easy to use. Takes excellent footage and the sound is good. Battery life is excellent and the zoom is plenty for what I need. My only beef is the menu button is so small it is frustrating trying to find the item you need as its so easy to catch the wrong arrow and I have small fingers , my husband can't use the button at all. A touch screen is much easier.Camera shake has almost been eradicated and pictures aren't blurred. Easy to download to pc On the whole it does what it says on the tin and apart from the small button I am very pleased with it. For the money, its an excellent buy.

Bought this camcorder as a replacement for a six year old Canon 630i. This device is much easier to use and lighter and smaller and of course, it's HD.

Bought the camera a few weeks ago and find it difficult to lay it down. Various shooting modes to suit different situations. HD is great. The zoom is clear and small things can be captured from a distance without loss of quality or focus. Focusing mechanism can be a little slow but not detrimental to filming. Sound quality is good and clear. The lens is the most important component and build quality is not important to me personally. Light and will fit in your pocket. With a 64GB chip you get 5 hours 20m filming. Mp4 setting 22 hours 33m, Standard quality 15 hours 55m. The settings are many but fairly easy to manipulate. For the price and excellent buy. A spare battery would be advisable. Standard battery life is around 2 hours but larger capacity batteries are available.

Bought this in March and used it in holiday to Devon! Camera is really easy to use. Just open the screen and shoot away! Battery lasted pretty long as well! I really liked the back light function in the camera. Very useful on the beaches or when facing the sun. It compensates the exposure really well in that type of situation. When I reached home and created a DVD, the footage was crystal clear! Just like a Bluray dvd. The steadyshot function works very well as well! I would recommend this camera to any beginners out there.

Have used it on a canal trip and taking videos at Xmas of grandchildren and at family BBQ's the Children love to see themselves replayed via the TV. Taking on an American Rail journey in the next few weeks . It has great stability so jogging around gets completely smoothed out, excellent
