the quality was well worth the price and i have also worked with high quality cameras including news studio cameras and completely agree that it is the lighting that effects the quality of life because even high quality cameras like that give bad images in bad lighting.

I've had the camera for about 10 months. I've worked around FILM style cam's in Hollywood and usually on independent type features. Even with Panavision or many of the High Dollar ones, the scenes were only as good as the lighting design. The cameras have to adjust themselves, as the operators tweak to pull focus etc. To say that a camera has problem in low light is like saying a car has a problem in nasty road conditions. It's the operator and the setting of conditions prior to filming anything. I love the thing and I've gotten tons of compliments on my work with it. It's not the gear folks, it's the person behind it.

I have been a Sony guy all my life.. own a sony tv, vcr, dvd player, sd camcorder (minidv), camera.. u name it... and have always been a loyal customer. But this model is extremly disappointing. Bought it since we are expecting a baby next month, so will be taking indoor movies. Even though all the features are extremely cool, the primary function should be to provide as close as HD quality as possible. Tried to take movies at 8.00 in the night with 2 halogen lamps (not too dark), and also at 10.00 am (overcast conditions).. both times indoors. If the picture color etc was not sharp, or the picture was dull i could live with it. However the picture was so grainy, my sd camcorder (tr22), was better indoors. Planning to return this camera, and demonstrate why with a sample picture. Hope they refund my full money without a 15% stocking fee. Will try to see if the HDR-XR500V us better indoors (the price is a bit too steep for now, but really want to get all the movies of my new baby in good HD). They should really put a label on the product(200V) that it is for use outdoors and indoors only with very bright lights. With Sony you rely on the brand name, and believe that the performance is really upto the mark, no more, should have done more research before putting my blind faith.

Sony is the absolute true leader in HD Camcorder technology. No matter what model of a Sony's HD camcorder line you buy, you can guarantee, you will get the most greatest ,clearest video quality ever, with the most vivid colors, and with excellent Auto Focus, technology. This camcorder works great outdoors and excellent indoors when you have the proper lighting. Halogen light bulbs are strongly recommended indoors as a light source. The zoom lens is great, with further zooming than most HD camcorders. The best part is that video never blurs when zooming in. I am a young filmmaker who makes home movies and school projects and I also film weddings and receptions for people and charge them for DVD production and professional editing, and this is by far is the best camcorder, yet! Its better than DV tapes and way better than standard definition camcorders and even DVD camcorders. This camcorder is compatible with Mac OS X 10 and Leopard, with iMovie.

The Sony HDR-XR200V 120GB HDD High Definition Handycam Camcorder is great for travelers, which features a GPS receiver that can display your current location and remember where you shot your video. In addition to 4.0 megapixel still image capture for high-resolution digital photos, the HDR-XR200V has Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode for superior image smoothness.
You'll also enjoy easy, automatic creation of short movies via the Highlight Playback feature. Made possible by the BIONZ image processing engine, Face Detection technology recognizes up to 8 faces anywhere in the frame and by selecting the most prominent, automatically controls focus, exposure and color to help capture smiling faces brightly and clearly. Face Detection technology also helps make skin tones look natural without affecting other colors in the image.
On AVCHD models, the camcorder allocates encoding bits on detected face areas prior to encoding other parts of the picture, making them sharper and clearer. In still picture mode, Face Detection technology sets the flash level to optimize picture clarity. BRAVIA Sync technology offers greater ease of use in controlling compatible Sony products connected via an HDMI (CEC) connection.
HDMI connectivity provides a simple; high-quality video and audio connection, with the ability to transmit HD video and up to 5.1 channel audio directly from the camcorder to compatible HDTVs via a single HDMI cable, sold separately. With BRAVIA Sync (CEC) technology, the HDMI connection also delivers the ability to control both the camcorder and HDTV using a single BRAVIA TV remote and displays the camcorder's playback menu on screen for easier navigation.
