The soundbar very frequently doesn't come on. Have to switch on and off several times. This could happen once in 2-3 days, sometimes daily.

I had the opportunity to receive the Sony Bravia 6 soundbar and I was genuinely excited to put it to the test. Given its hefty $650 price tag, I went into this experience with high expectations, hoping to be thoroughly impressed. For context, I've been using a nearly decade-old Vizio sound system, which includes a subwoofer and two rear speakers. While that setup began to suffer from frequent connection issues, its sound quality remained strong. Naturally, I saw this Sony system as a chance to upgrade - with the hope of better audio quality, more reliable connectivity, and modern features. Let me begin by clarifying that, since I didn't personally purchase this unit, my review is entirely unbiased and sincere. I have no incentive to praise it undeservedly, which I believe is especially important for anyone seriously considering spending $650 on this sound system. Design & Setup Experience: In terms of size, the soundbar is on the longer side, but that's to be expected if you're aiming for a theater-style setup or have a larger TV stand. The subwoofer, on the other hand, is quite large - significantly bigger than my previous one. That said, its size is justified by the deep, rich bass it delivers. One area that left me underwhelmed was the Bravia app. Given Sony's reputation, I expected a polished and feature-rich companion app. Instead, it's very basic - not terrible, but definitely not impressive. Still, it gets the job done, and you'll need it to complete the installation process. For connectivity, you have the option to use an optical cable or HDMI ARC. While I'm not an audiophile, my research pointed to HDMI ARC being the superior option for audio quality - thankfully, Sony includes the HDMI cable in the box. Firmware Update Frustrations: After setup, the system prompted a firmware update, and this turned out to be a major headache. The process was confusing, the instructions were poorly written, and I ended up having to try multiple USB flash drives (five, to be exact) before I could get it to work. Reaching out to Sony's support didn't help; their guidance was minimal and not useful. It eventually worked, but only after about ten attempts. For a product at this price point, the update experience should be far smoother. Audio Quality & Limitations: Now to the good part: the sound quality is excellent. Sony delivers crisp highs, a well-balanced midrange, and powerful bass. However, this system is being marketed and priced like a full surround sound experience - and it simply isn't. The lack of support for rear speakers is a major letdown. I had assumed I could purchase and add Sony rear speakers to enhance the setup, only to discover that the system is completely standalone, with no compatibility for expansion. That's a big oversight. At this price, many users will expect a complete surround sound system - or at least the option to build one. As someone who came from a setup that included rear speakers, I can confidently say that this Sony system, while great in sound clarity, lacks the immersive depth true surround sound provides. Build Quality & Final Thoughts: The build quality is solid and feels premium, and I do believe this soundbar and subwoofer will last a long time. They'd probably perform best in a smaller to mid-sized room, where the absence of rear speakers might be less noticeable. Also, I've experienced no connectivity issues since switching from my aging Vizio system - which is a major plus and tells me it was probably time for a change. Still, it's hard not to compare the two. My old setup, despite being close to 10 years old and far cheaper, offered a more immersive movie-watching experience thanks to those rear speakers. In terms of raw sound quality, the Sony may edge out the Vizio slightly - but not by $650 worth, especially if immersion is a priority. Final Verdict: If you're looking for a stylish, high-quality 2.1 sound system and are okay with the limitations, the Sony Bravia 6 delivers great audio. But if you're expecting a true home theater experience, particularly at this premium price, be aware: the lack of rear speaker support and the frustrating setup experience may leave you underwhelmed.

I have had the Theatre Bar 6 for just over a week now. Positives Very cinematic sound Loud! Bassy Looks smart, maybe a tad bulky Negatives Doesn't throw sound around as well as I had hoped The bravia connect app is utterly hopeless. Just look at how many 1 star reviews it has. This really ruins the experience, setting up the soundbar appears simple but glitches slow everything down. It took over an hour for mine to find the subwoofer. It needed to update straight away which was OK when loaded onto a USB stick. But then the soundbar must be reconnected to the app again. This took hours of restarting, reinstalling the app to find it. You might think of just not using the app but this is the only way you can alter most of the settings such as the sound field between Sony, Dolby and DTS. I'm still within my 30 days and considering returning the soundbar purely based kn the quality of the app.
