Lousy warranty. Died 6 Months out of warranty sound bar died. All Sony would do is pay for 1/2 of the repair. I had to provide box., pay shpping and wait for repair estimate. It was hard to find a customer service phone number and they don't advertise their hours.

I purchased this sound bar 3 months ago along with my sony 50" smart tv. While the bass is good for watching action films it is very disappointing for dramas trying to make out what people are saying. I have just finished watching Adolescence on Netflix and it was nearly impossible to make out episode 4. Very disappointed with purchase.

Did a lot of research on both Sony and Samsung TVs and Sound Bars. Since I have been a Sony guy for over 45 years, I obviously was leaning towards Sony. But after looking at all products and display and hearing the sound bar comparisons, I was convinced that the Sony was far superior. After the EASY set up we enjoyed the immersive viewing and sound. Simplicity itself to set up and operate but why you do not include an HDMI cable with the product is baffling - it seems like penny pinching when dealing with such a quality product. Otherwise the purchase has been well-made and produces first class sound in my room.

After being installed the blue tooth music skipped. You have to turn off the sound bars and then unplug it, wait for 1 minute and then plug it back in. That solved the problem.

I just bought the soundbar and it has great high and low response and amazing base. Also very clear and crisp sound.

I was excited because it sounded so good on the display model. Got it home and not so much. No adjustments besides preset and bass volume. And everything we watch has a different sound level. Some have to be all the way up to hear it. Others on 15 setting. Would not recommend

This sony soundbar has a good sound quality overall but is a bit too bassy, and can get noisy easily, especially in a small room. The setup was very easy. The subwoofer is the best part of this set, if placed correctly it has amazing quality. I would recommend it more for tv than for music.

I recently purchased a lower priced Sony Model to complement my Sony Bravia TV. Together, I have a great TV and better audio. If you don't want to spend the extra on a high end sound bar. I recommend this unit.

I Love the sound depth and ease of connectivity with Smart Tv even from different brands. The Sound bass is abit low for a music listener. Aside from that the aesthetic value is good for home decor.

Seems to have an issue with randomly turning itself off that can't be fixed with automatic standby function or reset. Will need to return if the problem continues.

For just 2 speakers and a subwoofer you get and impressive sound effects that give you virtual surround sound. And the subwoofer adds a quality I didn't know was missing, the tonal quality of voices, explosions and sound effects.

I bought this to blast TV and music while on my loud treadmill. It's not a 4k pass thru it just a basic model that works great for my old TV. The price reflects this as well! Easy set up, love it!

I bought the HSD40 sound bar Christmas for new Samsung tv. It works for 10 to 60 minutes then go's searching for Bluetooth and the sound stops. Then you have to hit input on the remote to tv and it might last 15-30 minutes before you have to do it again. Very disappointed in Sony

Good link to TV via HDMI cable (not suplied). Volume could be a little louder but sound quality is good for the price. Bass is pretty good from subwoofer for music.

We just purchased the sound bar to compliment the Bravia 65" TV that we just purchased as well. I was surprised by the ease of set-up. I have a smaller living room and the sound is really good with good bass and clarity. Only thing is that I wish that the eARC HDMI cable was supplied. I have ordered the cable. Can't speak to longevity or customer service, but if they are like all the Sony products that I've owned in the past, I think that I'll be happy.

We received as a gift from our Son on December 1st as an early Christmas present so we are excited to enjoy it for many years we hope. We previously owned a different brand that we had about 15 years without any extended warranty and never a problem until it died. So we hope Sony is as good a product and will last for years without extended warranty as well.

This HT-S400 is being used to replace a very old and inexpensive sound bar / wireless woofer, being used on an equally old plasma TV. The bar sounds quite good - I have no issue with the audio quality and the remote woofer is marvelous with good solid bass. I am using the toslink optical connection just as I did with the old soundbar - and was very very surprised to hear a significant lag in the audio between the bar and TV! It introduces a quiet intrusive echo effect - the only way which can be resolved is to turn the TV volume to zero. While some TV's may have options to increase the audio latency to match an external soundbar mine does not. This issue did not exist on my ancient cheap soundbar that it was replacing. The old soundbar has no discernible lag. The issue is easy enough to avoid - just mute the TV. But still, it was unexpected - could the latency issues be something Sony could improve with a firmware update? Updating from Canadian firmware 1.114 to 1.188 made no difference. (I mention "Canadian version" because it seems other countries have a higher firmware version number 1.195 but release date is the same - SONY, this seems very odd.)
