Order a second camera for a church after the first camcorder performed so well. Great in low light conditions and for live streaming. Picture quality is great!

This is a top notch camera for anyone who's looking for a cinematic feel with a YouTube budget. The options that are packed into this camera in the small frame are incredible. The Image Stabilization isn't quite as good as the Sony AX53 but the footage is head and shoulders better. Adorama did a great job packaging the camera and accessories and couldn't have been easier to work with!

I have used my new camera 4-5 times so far. I am extremely happy with the quality of the video. I have received a lot of attention and compliments just by how it looks when I have it out. It looks professional and makes a statement. I am very pleased. I only wish there was more videos out to teach users how to use it to its fullest and other accessories that could make it even better.

As a long time photographer, I decided I wanted to expand my horizons and dabble a little in videography. I always wanted to do some videography, but quality camcorders were very pricy, and very large in size. Sony came out with the XD-NX-AX lineup and changed the 4K landscape for prosumers like me. I purchased a Sony AX53 (a good camera on its own accord), which I soon realized would not be sufficient in doing everything I wanted to do, so I "bit the bullet" and shortly thereafter purchased an NX80 from Adorama. I was going to purchase a PXW-Z150, but there were features on that camera which I wouldn't be needing since I wont be using it for ENG, which didn't justify me as a "prosumer" spending an extra $500. Purchasing the bundle at the same price that other retailers sold only the camera was the deciding factor when purchasing this kit. I knew I was going to have to buy a backup battery and a UV filter to protect the camera lens anyhow, so Adorama's bundle fit the bill. I received the HXR-NX80 4K NXCAM bundle on time and as advertised by Adorama. I already had a Sony AX53, so the NX camera was a big step up. I plan on producing landscape and wildlife HDR videos, so the wide dynamic range of the NX80 suites this purpose well. I also purchased DaVinci Resolve Studio to edit and color grade my HDR videos after using the free version to get my feet wet with the advanced editor/color grader. The NX80 is a wonderful camcorder, with a lot of of features all packed in a small form-factor. The tack-sharp Zeiss glass is perfectly mated to the excellent 1" Exmor RS sensor, producing sharp, well saturated video quality. The phase-detection coupled to the contrast detection autofocus make for FAST focusing in most lighting conditions. The ability to use S-Log and HLG make for professional looking results from such a small camera. Having built-in neutral density filters are very convenient, even though the kit came with a lens mounted neutral density lens filter. The built-in mic preamps and phantom powered XLR inputs make for quality audio right out of the camera. The top handle make handling the camera easier and safer. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and have big plans for this camera (and the AX53). The rest of the bundle was a nice add-on, but some of it I won't be using. The UV filter which came in the bundle was immediately screwed onto the camera lens when I received them to protect the camera's lens. The UV filter is nowhere near the quality of a HOYA or B+W, but will protect the camera's lens until I can upgrade to a better filter. The lens mounted neutral density and circular polarizer filters which came with the camera will likely not be used, but I'll keep them in my bag. The extra battery in the bundle was also a nice feature. Luckily, the same battery fits both my NX80 and AX53. The well made bundled duffel-type bag is a little too big for me, but will be used for other purposes. I put the camera in a smaller bag which suites me better since I will be carrying the camera bag out in the field with me on my video expeditions. All-in-all, I'm very pleased with my purchase and hope to have years of camcorder enjoyment to come. Take my advise and BUY THIS CAMCORDER. You won't regret it.

Very good deal on this awesome camcorder. This is our second one, not because the old one stopped, but because this one has many added features. Now we have two great cameras for our events and promotions.

Love the camera, it has everything you need in one bundle. I thought of purchasing the Sony A7 III but when considering the cost of additional lens, and the effort to constantly switch between them, I landed on the NX80. The built in zoom lens and ND filter alone makes this camera amazing. The bag that came with this bundle is also a pretty solid and roomy bag. I’m able to fit two cameras, extra batteries, wires and mics in this bag with room left.

The good. The image and audio of the nx8o is really good. The ease of use and form factor is nice. It is not as robust as a professional user would want. The ziess lens is good. Sadly mine developed a flaw on the interlens. I used the camera in temperatures over 100 degrees and a small crack developed. A secondary problem developed with the zoom controls as the camera under the bright California sun in a vineyard on the same day as the lens issue developed. I am going to send it to service. Until then I will use my more robust Panasonic 4K models.

The 1-inch sensor does what it claims in low-light. The camera is compact enough to easily be maneuvered when on the move, and the controls are good. It would be helpful to be able to delete scenes directly from the thumbnail screen without having to go to the menu, and I need to get a little better at shooting high speed objects. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase.

Wanted professional-level performance and functionality with relatively affordable pricing and output file formats compatible with consumer-grade video editor software. Did a lot of research and bought Sony HXR-NX80 for my church. Very pleased with this model. Highly recommended.

I have not had a huge amount of time to test out this camera, but it's clear to me from the time I have spent that I won't be disappointed with my purchase. It's compact, which makes it easy to handle no matter what the conditions of the shoot. I'm much more experienced with videography than photography but it's clear that this camera can handle both very well and that is one of the reasons I decided to purchase it. I've used Sony video equipment primarily for over 20 years and, compared with my experience with other cameras (Canon XL1), Sony seems more intuitive and user friendly. I think I'm going to love this camera.

This camera is still new to me, but I have set up a 4K and 1080p picture profile so that I can shoot quickly and edit without spending time is Premier or Resolve color grading. I had planned on shooting in S-Log, but I get the professional results I need right out of the camera. I'm a semi-serious photographer that was using my Nikon DSLR's (810, 750, 500) to take short clips of video with "OK" results...The Sony was perfect for me! Great usable features, high-quality and easy to use...yet full of professional features as my knowledge expands. The convertible handle is a plus...you can shoot as is with the small controllable single grip or attach the handle for full function XLR microphones. Sony's quality overall is terrific. Shooting outdoors is a breeze too with the built-in ND filters. Value for the money it was hard to beat for what we shoot for work and fun. For reference, I use the Rode VideoMic Pro+ and the Stereo VideoMic Pro right on the camera. When using the handle, I use a pair of Rode NTG2's...one camera mounted and one pointed in the direction I'm shooting. Terrific sound quality and Sony's easy to access control panel lets you fine tune your sound levels. Recently, we shot a video training series with the RodeLink Filmmaker's Kit with great success. Also, we added the Sony LANC remote control which mounted up nice on the Manfrotto tripod. An invaluable item for production work and smooth transitions. PRO's: High quality 4K, 1" sensor Easy to Use Auto modes, yet full Pro functionality. Compact (without handle) Semi-Compact (with). Multiple sounds control options. SD cards and good battery life. (Buy a few spares though) CON's (Minimal) The clamp used to secure the microphone on the handle requires a spacer which was not included. Buttons are a bit small and the menu is challenging to push when the viewfinder is open. Wish the zoom range was a bit more robust. Adorama has been great to work with over the years for my Camera purchases and my video experiences so far have matched that level of satisfaction. I would recommend Adorama and Sony highly for people wanting a lot of Pro features packed into a small video camera that shoot both professional videos and personal outdoors!

For corporate video, event video, education, faith and government video, there’s never been anything like Sony’s HXR-NX80. This sleek chassis represents the most power we’ve ever built into a palm-sized NXCAM® camera. With advances like 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, Instant HDR, a large 1” (1.0-type) image sensor and Fast Hybrid Auto Focus, this is the perfect tool for taking your productions to the next level.
Focus is always important. And it’s especially critical in large-sensor 4K production. The HXR-NX80 exceeds the need with Sony’s remarkable Fast Hybrid Auto Focus system. Using 273 focus points covering 84% of the frame, the system combines the strengths of both Phase Detection and Contrast Detection for unsurpassed results. You can hold focus even on fast-moving subjects such as sports, breaking news or children at play. Refinements like 4K face detection and object tracking technology make it easy for a director or journalist to follow a subject.
4K High Dynamic Range is sweeping the television market -- and gaining the attention of more and more producers. The HXR-NX80 is the first palm-sized broadcast camera to deliver stunning 4K HDR. Sony’s choice of Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) means that your results will look amazing on both HDR and conventional televisions – without additional color correction.
High Frame Rate shots can turn everyday actions into slow motion ballet. The HXR-NX80 delivers continuous 1-120 frames per second (fps) Slow & Quick Motion in Full HD XAVC 10-bit 4:2:2. For 24p projects, the result is gorgeous 5x slow motion. There’s more. You also get beautiful time lapse sequences down to 1 fps. In burst mode recording, the camera achieves even higher frame rates: up to 960 fps at specific resolutions.
The HXR-NX80 fits well in broadcast environments with balanced XLR microphone inputs, Sony’s versatile Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, HDMI® terminal and a convenient, wired remote control jack. Wired remote control enables the camera to work beautifully in Sony’s simple live production solution, which includes the MCX-500 live producer and RM-30BP remote control.
To deliver unprecedented performance, the camera features an unprecedented 1” (1.0-type) stacked image sensor. The difference is substantial.
Fast or unpredictable subject motion can trip up the Contrast Detection auto focus of conventional camcorders. The HXR-NX80 stays ahead of the action using Fast Hybrid Auto Focus (AF). This system combines both Contrast Detection and Phase Detection. Some 273 reference points cover 84% of the sensor area to lock onto moving subjects from sports and dance to natural history and breaking news. Selecting the focus area is as simple as touching the camera’s LCD monitor screen. Additional features include 4K face detection, object tracking and adjustments for AF Tracking Depth. They all work together seamlessly to capture fast-moving subjects with consistent sharpness.
With the ability to reproduce images from deep shadows to piercing highlights, 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) televisions are sweeping the market and demand for HDR production is booming. While broadcasters recognize the benefits of HDR, they still need to deliver content quickly and effectively. The HXR-NX80 meets this demand with Sony’s Instant HDR workflow. Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording captures HDR, yet plays back beautifully on both HDR and conventional monitors and televisions. There’s no need to devote extra time to post-production work and color grading. For added versatility, the camera also provides S-Log3 encoding.
High Frame Rate shots can turn everyday actions into slow motion ballet. The HXR-NX80 delivers continuous 1-120 frames per second (fps) Slow & Quick Motion in Full HD. For 24p projects, the result is gorgeous 5x slow motion. There's no sacrifice in bit depth and no "windowing" of the sensor. Compared to normal frame rates, there's no crop factor, no loss in angle of view. You also get beautiful time lapse sequences down to 1 fps. And burst mode recording offers even higher frame rates – 240 fps, 480 fps and 960 fps – at specific resolutions.
The HXR-NX80 records 4K (3840 x 2160) using the advanced XAVC-S codec. And you can capture XAVC-S Full HD at 50 Mbps. This advanced recording system combines stunning picture quality with workflow flexibility and storage efficiency. For compatibility with legacy systems, the camera also offers AVCHD™ recording.
The HXR-NX80 comes with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as standard. Simply turn on and log onto your preferred network to enjoy advanced wireless production.
A camera as advanced as the PXW-NX80 deserves an equally sophisticated lens. That’s why Sony fixed a Zeiss® lens of impressive capabilities.
The PXW-NX80 makes it easy to take advantage of shallow depth of field even in exterior day shoots. There’s no need to carry and mount external Neutral Density (ND) filters. The built-in ND filter wheel has positions for Clear, 1/4 (2 Stops), 1/16 (4 Stops) and 1/64 (6 Stops).
You can control Focus, Zoom, Rec Start/Stop and Rec Review via the LANC wired remote interface and an accessory controller like the RM-1BP or RM-30BP, sold separately. With this interface, the camera forms a powerful, yet simple live solution with the RM-30BP and MCX-500 multi camera live producer, both sold separately.
Sony had a game-changing idea: enable a single operator to run a multi-camera live production. The result was a robust, cost-effective switcher, the MCX-500 multi camera live producer and the companion RM-30BP remote control. In this system, a Tally indicator will automatically appear on each camera’s LCD panel and viewfinder. A red icon indicates when the shot is live (PGM) while Green indicates preview mode (NEXT). The MCX-500 supports mixing between eight video sources, four stereo embedded audio channels plus two XLR Inputs, and a dedicated Title Input. There are both internal recording and live streaming via Ustream, Facebook Live and YouTube Live. (Facebook Live and YouTube Live require V2.0 firmware.)
You can also synchronize timecode among multiple camcorders using our free Content Browser Mobile™ 3.0 app with optional CBKZ-WTCL upgrade and devices running iOS® (9.0 - 10.3) or Android® (4.4 - 7.1) operating systems. Sync to your choice of camcorder or to a time that you determine.
For precise manual focus, Sony’s 0.39-type OLED viewfinder combines high brightness and contrast with the resolution of 2359K dots. The highly responsive viewfinder also eliminates color breaking. For added flexibility in composing shots, Sony supplements the viewfinder with a 3.5-type 1550K dot touchscreen LCD monitor.
The detachable handle has two XLR mic inputs. And even if you remove the handle, a stereo minijack mic input on the body is still available. It’s ideal for shooting in confined spaces, such as a car interior, or when mounting on a gimbal.
The HXR-NX8 takes advantage of Sony’s flexible Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe, which provides power, signal connections and coordinated on/off switching to compatible accessories. For example, you can connect and control Sony’s 2-channel UWP-D Series wireless microphone systems, sold separately.
To extend recording time and flexibility, the camera provides two slots for SDXC™ and SDHC™ cards. Slot 1 is also compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo™ (Mark 2) / PRO-HG Duo™ cards. To take advantage, Relay mode automatically switches recording to the second memory card when the first is full. Simul mode enables simultaneous recording to two memory cards (for example to create an immediate back-up version). The two Start/Stop buttons on the handle grip and camcorder body can independently start and stop recording on different memory cards while recording in Simul mode.
