This recorder is on the Sony US site for $119.99. On the Canadian site it is being sold for $199.99. Why the difference?.

Small, reliable and I've been using it daily nonstop for 6 months. The extra memory slot puts it head & shoulders above the rest. Screening recordings to erase them is much harder than with other less expensive Sony pocket recorders I've had. The recording sensitivity is fantastic. The Sound Organizer makes it easy to plug in and download, but the Sound Organizer won't install on Windows 8! If you need small, this is the best choice, but the other Sony recorders are easier to work with.

The disadvantages that others mentioned I considered them not of a huge consideration. You can’t expect that a recorder of this size to have large buttons. The truth is that it works as expected. It is great for my needs. I have another model, such as the PX-312 (very good), but I love the convenience of being so slim.

The most basic function of a recorder is to be able to on the fly overwrite your dictation (like a cassette recorder). So while you are dictating, to be able to rewind, overwrite and continue dictating. YOU CANNOT DO THIS with this device. It requires multiple steps to go back through the menu to essentially divide the recording file, delete the remaining and then to create an entirely new file. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE FIRMWARE FIX, SONY PLEASE HELP!

Even though there is no mic input as mentioned by other reviewers its not needed. Its a great little recorder in a great little package. I find it very handy and it fits in my pocket. Easy to use and picks up very well. Another great product from Sony!

the small size is great.. you can keep it in your pocket for quick voice memos.. and the record/pause button on the front are in the perfect spot. but there are too many bad points.. the display is too small and difficult to read.. (I have 20/20 vision, but still struggle to read the display). Too much information in too small of an area. Lack of mic input is disappointing. the buttons on the side for play back are way to small and the labels printed on the side are tiny/difficult to read. they need to move the side buttons to the front face to be useful. i tried hard to like this, but after a month of heavy usage, I ended up going back to the olympus recorder.. not as stylish, but many times easier to use and functional.. nice try... but i would recommend waiting for their next version.. hopefully it will be better.

While this product is not in the stores yet, I have seen one. I understand it does not have an external mic input or line input.

The Sony ICD-TX50 Digital Flash Voice Recorder is a stereo voice and music recorder as well as a high quality player and storage device. In fact, it's hard to believe that a 1.75 oz piece of audio gear measuring a little over 4" packs such an amazing amount of technology. Convenience, easy access to data and clean, accurate recording ability drive the design of the ICD-TX50.
The ICD-TX50 boasts a highly visible, LED display. The 4 GB flash drive has enough capacity for up to 178 hours of voice recording and if that's not enough, there's a microSD card slot for further expansion. The ICD-TX50 has a built-in stereo microphone. You can listen to your recordings via the Built-In Speaker and of course, there's a headphone jack as well.
The ICD-TX50 has 5 recording modes from uncompressed stereo to compressed mono that easily stores data in one of one of 5 organizational folders, which can be personalized with your own names. The Easy Search function rewinds or fast forwards in short increments to make location of a segment simple and you can place up to 98 track marks on a recorded file to facilitate jumping to an exact passage.
Sound quality is prioritized using several technologies aimed at yielding a clean signal. Intelligent Noise Cut reduces ambient noise and a Hi/Med/Lo mic switch sets the recorder for lectures or dictation. The Noise Damper isolates the microphone elements from desk noise during recording. And speaking of desks, the convenient pocket clip which is an integral part of the design does double duty as a recording stand for tabletop use. The ICD-TX50 is Mac and PC compatible. It's powered by a built-in rechargeable battery with a 24 hour run time.
