Still good Always good

I’ve always been a Sony fan since day 1. My grandpa had one of these. (Same model) He bought new one of these and I always loved it. Since I am a big Sony fan I have two SS-CS5s and the SA-CS9 subwoofer. Keep up the good stuff!

indispensable!!!

Have bought dozens of these for family and friends. Get so many inquiries from these recipients, and others that notice and want to buy them for their contacts or themselves. …. and on it goes. Hope you will keep producing them.

The Perfect Emergency Radio!

Most people do not own a reliable portable radio dedicated for emergencies, This is the perfect radio! Not only is it ruggedly constructed, but the audio quality and sensitivity is great. In my experience, Sony is Mercedes of the electronic industry. Remember the Boy Scout Motto: "Be Prepared". Retired Public Safety

Great little radio

This is the quintessential transistor radio except unlike the oldies in the sixties that ate 9 volt battery after 9 volt battery, this workhorse delivers hours of use from 2 AA cells. I use NiMH rechargeables as successfully as alkaline batteries. The sound is quite good for its size. You can actually tune in FM stations that are often troublesome to get on cheapie radios. AM tuning is equally easy and it tunes in only one station at a time. Cheapie radios cannot separate a local strong station from "splashing" onto other frquencies. I enjoy it so much, I got a second unit so I have one upstairs and one down. It's a SONY made in China and is well made in my opinion.

perfect for talk radio fans like us

My wife and I have been buying this model for so many years we cannot remember accurately. It could easily be 30-40 years. It has been nothing but reliable, and you certainly can't beat the price. I believe the first one we purchased cost about $, and it lasted for many years. Another purchased about five years ago is going strong. We're afraid this model could go out of production, so we are purchasing two more at this time. No stereo available, but perfect for talk radio fans like us.

BUY IT FOR LIFE

I've had one of these radios since the 90s, and I'm sure it will still be working for many years to come. This radio's design is very refined, from the nice tactile click when you spin up the volume knob to turn it on, to the perfecty balanced tuning knob. This radio tunes very accurately and doesn't drift once you've set the knob. There aren't a lot of numbers on the dial and the range is fairly compressed since there's only so much room for it, but you'll have no trouble tuning. The FM mast is substantial and capable of pulling in low power stations from many miles away, even in the saturated FM bands in the SF bay area. The AM ferrite bar is also quite good, and I've heard some very distant stations on it when conditions were just right... (but I can't say I've done a lot of DXing with it since I have other radios for that) this is the radio i keep in the drawer in the kitchen, for emergencies or just when i'm going to be doing something outside. It's quite loud and can be used outdoors if it's not super windy. It's just a perfectly functional thing. sure, it's a little pricey at $, but you'll never buy another one, and you'll get thousands of hours of use from it. I can't think of any other electronic gadget I've gotten as much use out of, other than my giant transforming robot, of course.

AM/FM Pocket Radio is the consumer electronics industry's best performing pocket radio.

The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio is the consumer electronics industry's best performing pocket radio. It has a flawless design, implementation, and reception of analog radio broadcasts. I enjoy listening to this pocket radio just as much as any larger portable item in my personal radio assortment. A morning sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean, a hot cup of coffee, a warmed croissant, the fresh scent of the morning newspaper, and a Brahms symphony playing gently in the background. This is a marvelous pocket audio product, offering a superior portable design, reception range, and expert craftsmanship as well. This product is designed to persevere throughout the years. The Sony pocket radio can withstand less than ideal weather conditions and subpar operating environments on a consistent basis. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 pocket radio offers two distinct listening options. A formidable built-in 2.25 inch monaural speaker provides big booming sound on FM music stations. Classical music, classic rock, hard rock, the blues, jazz, country, the oldies, and disco music are very enjoyable and superbly reproduced across the FM band. The Sony pocket radio provides clear, well-defined, and distinct voice quality on my favorite AM station talk radio programs. I find that the weekday morning's public affairs, health, business, world news, technology, popular culture, science, the arts, comedy, movie review, sports talk, newsmaker author interviews, and auto repair programs feature accurate reception on the AM band. The audio quality emitted from this unit's speaker is on par or of better quality than many larger portable radios that I have heard in my experience. The monaural speaker provides depth and clarity of sound, without distortion. A convenient earphone jack is provided on the left side of the radio for any occasion when a private listening session is desired. The built-in speaker is disabled when the headphone jack is in use. AM and FM tuning quality is a breeze with this unit's thumbwheel-style tuning control. The tuning dial is accurately calibrated for all local market radio stations on both broadcast bands. This pocket radio receives 50,000 watt stations with incredible precision across the AM frequency band. Weak signal adjacent channel broadcast reception on either band is of very good quality throughout the day. The front panel LED tuning indicator lights up in bright red when a station is accurately tuned or locked in. Station-drift is not an issue with this Sony pocket radio. I never feel the need to readjust the tuning dial once the LED indicator is lit. Moreover, I don't have to retune the radio when it's turned off and then powered on again to recapture the last station listened to. This Sony pocket radio is always there for me when I want to listen to the ballgame, weather forecast, traffic report, stock market update, or a newscast when I can't be near a TV. This unit's built-in AM ferrite bar antenna and telescopic FM whip antenna enable this portable radio to offer exceptional sensitivity and selectivity broadcast reception performance on the AM/FM bands. I don't need to reorient the position of the portable radio frequently or extend the telescopic antenna to achieve satisfactory AM/FM reception quality. I am also able to receive out-of-market AM stations on most winter, spring, and fall nights when clear atmospheric conditions are present. The AM or FM frequency band can be changed when this portable radio is powered off by adjusting the band selector switch. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 pocket radio offers high-performance battery life. The Sony pocket radio is powered by two AA cell batteries that are difficult to deplete. The batteries must be installed in reverse polarity order inside the battery compartment. It is a rare event when the Sony pocket radio's batteries need to be replaced. I recommend the use of high-performance Duracell Ultra or Energizer Max alkaline batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life for this unit. Battery life will be shortened proportionately if the unit is played back at higher volume levels for an extended time period. The batteries should be removed from this unit when it is placed into storage. New and old batteries should not be used together. A mix of different battery brands inside the battery compartment is not recommended. The tuning LED also serves as a battery life indicator. The batteries are consumed and should be changed when the bright red LED becomes dimly lit or sound quality deteriorates rapidly. The pocket radio can't be operated on AC power. The super high-performance features offered by this Sony ICF-S10MK2 pocket radio are as follows: analog tuner, thumbwheel-style rotary tuning control, AM/FM dial scale, red tuning marker, red LED power on/tuning lock indicator, AM/FM reception, AM band frequency range: 530-1600 kHz, FM band frequency range: 87.5-108 MHz, AM/FM band selector switch, rotary volume/power control, volume switch/power control directional arrow symbol, 2.25 inch diameter monaural speaker, 8-ohm rated monaural speaker, speaker grill, speaker cabinet, 100mW total system output power at 10% THD, audible click power on/off function, 3.5mm monaural earphone jack, earphone jack symbol, built-in AM ferrite bar antenna, FM telescopic whip antenna, black carry strap affixed to the left side panel, DC battery terminals, detachable battery compartment cover with interior protective foam padding, battery cover downward directional arrow symbol, rear battery compartment, rear air vent, one rear case screw, 3V DC power rating, two bottom panel plastic feet for secure placement on a table, FCC compliance certification sticker, attractive silver casing, silver-plated earphone jack, black panel AM/FM dial scale, black tuning dial, power, volume, and band selector controls, clear type left/right side panel lettering, and bronze/white/black front panel lettering. The Sony pocket radio's adjustable telescopic antenna provides for more precise FM reception, as circumstances require. The FM whip antenna offers vertical height adjustment in 5 segment increments, multi-directional movement, and it's positioned on the left side panel of this unit. The left side panel is slightly recessed with an antenna placement holder so that the FM antenna recedes perfectly into this item when it is placed into its default position. The built-in ferrite bar antenna allows for horizontal movement of the radio by the user to improve AM broadcasts as needed. This unit's medium wave coverage can be expanded upon indoors with the use of an external Omni-directional passive antenna. For example, the Terk AM Advantage Antenna makes use of an electromagnetic procedure known as inductive coupling to improve AM reception by placing the antenna in close proximity to the Sony pocket radio. This unit's operating instructions are printed on the back of the product packaging. The product dimensions are as follows: Width: 2-7/8", Height: 4-¾", Depth: 1-3/16", and Weight: 7 ounces with batteries installed. The Sony portable radio includes a 90-day parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. This unit's recessed monaural earphone jack will only permit the user to hear audio out of the left side of a pair of stereo headphones. However, this issue can easily be corrected by connecting a 3.5mm monaural-to-stereo headphone plug adapter to the pocket radio's earphone jack. Sony has produced a perfect pocket radio. Radio reception quality varies depending on the physical location of this portable. The manufacturer recommends that the case should be cleaned with a suitable cloth slightly moistened with a liquid detergent when necessary. The Sony pocket radio can be used in the U.S. and Canada. Lastly, the Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM pocket radio offers great build quality, excellent amplifier output power, lightweight design, compact size for an exceptional portable audio experience, and it performs admirably for just about any portable audio application. Good Luck. Enjoy.

This little radio reminds me of the old "transister" radios we had when I was a kid. Same size, but much better quality in both the construction and sound. I had been seaarching for a small porable radio to mount on my mobility scooter, this is perfect.

Performs like a larger radio

Even though this is a small unit, it picks up all the out of town stations that my larger tabletop radio gets. You have to turn the dial very slowly or you'll skip right over distant stations. It also has plenty of volume for it's size.
