The TV set is finely built. Have not had any problems thus far with it. The only thing I would change would be to increase the stand height just a smidge. Colors represented well. Sound isn't much of a problem. Nice brightness, nice options. Layout isn't too complicated. Solid buy.

Great TV. Beautiful picture. So far everything works as designed. More than six months and so far so good. My other TV barely picked up local stations and lost reception constantly. Using the same antenna this one gets eight extra stations and never loses reception. I just wish the TV had all the same controls as the remote. If the remote goes out you're screwed. Universal remotes don't control everything you need to operate all functions. I know I've been there before.

It's 40" but the outer frame is so small that the TV is only alittle larger than my old Panasonic 32". It's very clear. I use it as my computer monitor for an Alienware gaming computer.

Have always bought Sony TV 's. After viewing my friends TV 's , I must clearly say that I have the superior product. They even ask me if I have a different cable source or upgraded cables. But I always say that Sony has never let me down which is why I still buy them time and time again. My TV set usually last at least 10 yrs and the clarity is always exceeds my expectations.

Viewing in HD mode shows very sharp, clear picture however on basic tv programs picture has some bluring and colors are not quite as sharp as HD. difficult to sharpen picture, color ,and contrast when not in HD mode as adjustment selections are limited For the price it is a nice TV

On board and written Instructions do not provide sufficient details about the available features, Picture is excellent, Sound volume varies even with the "steady sound" feature on, Pass through sound from different DVR recorders and games varies from barely audible to rock concert levels, Extremely limited number of input and output connections, Easy to assemble stand, Minimal features on remote control, Sound from TV speakers is OK, Built in "sound mode" formats are not significantly different, Sale price seems fair for what you are getting. If you are looking for a basic television to watch broadcast and cable shows, this is a good TV. If you are looking for a workhorse to view outputs from multiple devices in addition to various genre broadcast shows and movies, I would probably be checking other televisions before buying this one.

Have had numerous Sony TVs over the years with outstanding results. This TV is also a great product. Outstanding picture and sound. Was also on sale so got it at a lower price than was otherwise available. Have used it for about three weeks and so far so good. If it's like our previous Sony TVs, I expect we will have many years of excellent service.

The picture is not so good at an angle, not even a slight angle, need to be right in front for best picture. Also, limited input and outputs to hook up to Sony receiver. Also specs state 2 usb connection, one rear one side. only one in back, none on side. The picture is great viewed head on only. The vivid selection cast shadows. Overall I am disappointed. Especially because I always believed Sony the best tv. now not so sure. my best friend was going to get this as well, but may not now

All my TVs are Sony. I was tempted to get something a little bigger from another brand, but I stuck with Sony. The picture is very nice and I expect this TV to last a long time.

Purchased TV as Christmas present and TV has flashes of red spots and lines with less than 1 month of usage. Called customer service and may take 7 to 14 days to resolve issues which is a problem since Super Bowl is right around the corner and I don't think they will fix in time. Asked to speak to manager or supervisor and call center (located in Philippines) said they cannot transfers to manager or supervisor. They said that tv support will call me back in 24 to 48 hours, which I doubt since they said they would call me back when I originally called but I never received a call back. This is disappointing since I have two other TVs with Sony and no problems. These newer models must have poor quality parts. I am not happy with Sony.

I am certainly no TV or technology wizard, so this review is coming from someone just doing basic TV watching. I got this Sony TV as a Christmas gift to replace an older Vizio TV that was constantly having sound issues. Pros: - Lightweight, slim - Easy Setup Cons: - As others have said the picture quality is just not there. Picture varies wildly sometimes from channel to channel. This may or may not be the fault of the cable companies "HD Box". However, I have played around with all the setting on both the Sony TV and the HD Box and the picture remains the same. - Picture tends to have an over contrasted and/or saturated look to it regardless of settings - Picture often has a somewhat pixelated look to it as well. My older Vizio TV definitely had a better picture quality. I wish i would have just bought a sound bar for that TV and called it a day. Overall I would NOT recommend this Sony KDL-40R380B model.

At first I was very excited to get this tv. The price was great, and out of the box, the colors looked fantastic. I spent about 2 hours fiddling with the color controls, getting it so that it made the picture on my Xbox really pop. Everything seemed great, until I started to play a few games. In darker scenes (not even the pitch black types) , I'd notice that the details near the center would get washed out and hard to see. It was very distracting. It took me a little while to figure it out, but after giving it a full black input, I found a huge and very bright flashlight/cloud in the center of the screen. Basically, something was seriously wrong with the backlight, and the uniformity of the black background was very poor. I'm usually not one to be picky over these types of things, but this was so bad that it was effecting my viewing even when playing Assassin's Creed during a daytime mission (but in a shaded area). My main tv is a 55" A3000 Sony Lcos (which is beautiful, although aging), and I always held Sony in high regards. I'm very disappointed at the level of quality here. I am due to replace my 55" in the next couple years, and this purchase has really made me rethink Sony as a first choice.

The main appeal of this tv is the size and price. It's a big tv for the money. The downside is that the color is not spectacular. It took a lot of work and a lot of manual adjustment to get the color looking brilliant and alive. Unfortunately the color quality varies wildly from channel to channel. When I'm watching a game, it can vary wildly between the different cameras. The headphone jack is very nice to have. I have some very nice (pricey) computer speakers. I was able to connect them via the headphone jack. My sound is great. There's also a nice feature that allows you to turn off the screen, while leaving the sound playing. When I have an Internet device connected to one of the two HDMI ports, I can play music from the Internet and turn off the picture. That's especially handy at night. Only having 2 HDMI ports is a major issue.

I will give you a constructive criticism/tips as best as I possibly can. I have purchased in the past & still own 5 HD Tv's. 2 Sony's (1-46" 1080P 60hz when 1080P was 1st available on the market 2006 or 2007 and 1-1080P 120hz), 2 Vizio's 1080P 120hz, & 1 Insignia 1080P 60hz. This TV's picture quality doesn't compare to any of my other HD TV's. 1) Backlight is way too dim even at max. setting 2) LED Motion setting only seems to dim the screen 3) Way Too much motion gitter I thought this can't be. It's a Sony. I even purchased a new Quad Shield RG6 Coax Cable, Ver. 1.4 HDMI Cable, & purchased a Power conditioner. To prove it to myself I even swapped the cables from my other HD TV's & placed this TV where I have my other TV locations. I have spent a lot of time playing with all the picture settings & I still can't get the picture to my liking. I still have to give it 1 more test when I watch my football to see how much of players motion gitter. (Hopefully this weekend possibly due to holiday's & not much spare time) I also have 3 Sony Blue Ray Player's. 2 of them are the latest 3D with Wi-Fi built in. I can give you all the TV & Blue Ray Model #'s if you like. As you can see I'm not new at this. (That's pretty bad when my Cheap Best Buy House Brand Insignia is Superior) My old Dell PC Monitor 10 yrs old has a better Resolution Look. I purchased from Sony Direct. This KDL-40R380B has SW Ver. 2.04. Maybe this is some old TV that was sitting in the warehouse & needs a Firmware/Software update? I haven't registered it or tried to see if update is available yet but I did purchase this TV brand new & expected a good picture out of the box.

Purchased this because we can't read the football scores clearly on our 1999 TV. Worried I couldn't get this set up with our cable box. Delivered right to the door, husband helped lift the old TV off the stand we had, this fit the stand, and he left. I got it all plugged in (not difficult). Turned it on, waited for U-verse to recognize it, and WOW, double WOW. Hope to get flat screens for the bedrooms now. This is easy to use, great picture, good size.

My first HD TV ever and I love it so far great purchase
The Sony R380B Series KDL-40R380B 40" LED 1080p HDTV produces stunning images using Clear Resolution Enhancer picture engine that allows you to enjoy individual details and textures that are ultra-crisp and oh-so-realistic. There's also amazing contrast that helps images come alive on screen.
Details without distraction
Enjoy fine details and textures, even in flat areas with Clear Resolution Enhancer picture engine. Picture noise is reduced so that you can experience crisper images and greater on-screen depth.
Clear, life-like motion
Golf balls roll clearly, with less blurring, as the camera follows them across the green. Even quick motion seen in action movies appears amazingly realistic as Motionflow XR 120 increases clarity.
Sounds as great as it looks
Indulge in crisp high pitches and deep lows with Bass Reflex Speakers.
