NO!!!!!!

This TV probably has the most problems i have ever had with any TV in my life! I love sony TV's but this one is not good! I have gone through two of these TV's already i am about to take my second one back to the store and exchange for a different model! My first one was fine but it had horrible very bad backlight bleeding problems, not only would it show in blacks it would show in colors as well, even during the day. My second one still had backlight bleeding but not to bad to really worry about but the backlight on the second one would stop working and the screen would go black but there would still be sound. Another problem would be the sound problems there were so many ticks and flaws in the sound and even somtimes the sound would totally stop working!!!

No major problems so far

I've had this TV for a couple months now and there has been no problems with the audio or video. It plays blu-ray movies very well and the video settings give a lot of room for customization. Every once in a while, when changing inputs, there will be a semi-loud pop noise. It's annoying but happens very rarely. Changing the channels while watching TV is kind of slow (about 1-1.5 seconds per change) but not too bad. This is still a great value and I'm glad I got this TV.

Audio cuts out, Screen just dies while surfing

I did about 6 months or research before getting our first HD TV. After reading all the scare stories about the Vizio's I decided I would pay top dollar and get a SONY which in my mind was the most reliable brand. Big let down so far. Within the first week of getting it the screen just goes dead while changing channels and never comes back on till you turn the power off and then on. So we have to wait about 45 seconds for that whole process which makes watching TV incredibly frustrating. Then another issue is the Audio will flicker and then die after you are watching it for a while. Some times you have to cycle the power 3 or 4 times untill it works again. Sony had a local repair shop replace the main board and it still does the same thing. I have updated the software, changed out my Comcast box and bought different HDMI cables. For some reason I never get this issue while using the SONY blu-ray player or the PS3. When it works the picture is probably the best in its class. But the hassle of my wife calling me at work to say the TV is acting up makes me feel like I chose the wrong brand.

Good value

I have only owned the Sony Bravia KDL 40v5100, for four days now but it is great. I am quite impressed with the picture especially the HD picture. I only wish my cable had 1080p instead of 1080i, but Im told there is negligible difference in the two. The sound control is adequate but does take setting it at a 30 to 35 number to hear well enough , and I have normal heaaring. If the audio were much better I would rate it at excellent value.

40v3000

I bought the 40v3000 2 years ago and have enjoyed every aspect of it. Every friend is jelous of the superior picture. I have never had it freeze up in any mode. I have owned Sony tv's since the age of 16 and will never buy any other brand. My kids are still using my old tube sony's and after 20+ yrs they still are going strong.

Excellent Value

I highly recommend this product of Sony. It is a pleasure watching TV on this device. The picture is crisp and nice. The sound is balanced. We like the slim design as well.

Keep safe distance

Bought this TV with BD S560, which is a whole another bag of problems, with wi-fi but no Netflix/Pandora. I will be returning these.

frozen overlapping screen

When changing channels will freeze on the old channel. The new channel will be squished to the side or stretched and displayed near the top. I swapped out the cable box and problem persisted. If I switch inputs or switch to a non HD channel and go back the picture is ok again. If the picture I uploaded is displayed you will see the time from the guide twice and the 3rd channel squished all the way to the left. As a bonus the tv will sometimes not recognize either the blu-ray or the cable box when I turn it on in the morning. All I get is no signal while the composite video coming from the VCR still works. If I unplug the tv it will again recognize the 2 hdmi inputs. Sony is sending out a tech but after reading the reviews here it looks like this is a known and ignored problem. Even if they fix it a $1,000 tv should at least function for a full month before it craps out.

Refurbished is like New

I ordered this HDTV from SonyStyle refurbished for less than six hundred :-) It took a week until it shipped but shipping was only two days once I contacted the shipper DBSchenker to schedule delivery. Although it is refurbished, it looks like new. I immediately called customer service to request the firmware update since none of my USB memory sticks worked. They sent a memory stick with the update very quickly. Firmware update was easy and quick which solved the dimming problem. I am very happy with the picture and all the features. DVDs look very good but HD programming is the best. Very deep blacks and the sound is better than I thought. The menus (lots of tweaks), the remote, the connectivity, everything is very well designed. If you don't need Internet movie streaming this is the one for you. Overall I highly recommend this TV.

Very good

Picture is great and motion is good. Sometimes, it shows that I have an HDMI-3 connection, which I don't have. Have not used the HDMI -1 input yet, although it is connected to a receiver, but thanks for the cable warning. For the guy complaining about ACE - TURN it OFF! My big complaint is the remote. Buttons are in the wrong place, like Vol, Channel, jump, mute are at the very bottom so you can't hold the remote and press them at the same time. And entering channel numbers like 58.1 is hard because of the pressure and spacing of the keys.. It takes two hands to operate this thing. :(

Stay Away from this model

The picture looks great when it stays consistent but that is not what this tv does well. There is a software update that was designed to fix this problem but even after the update it still changes the lighting constantly. This is really noticeable when watching scenes in movies that are fairly close up like late night talk shows and the people go from Wisconsin white to Miami tan and back and forth. It also changes the lighting and to best describe it I will say it is like some is talking a picture with a very soft flash. It will drive you crazy. I did the software update, no help. Tech came out and replaced the panel, no help. They are now talking with Sony to see what to do next.

Great TV but with a channel lock-on issue

Great TV. Bought on 9-8. Easy to set up. Color is suberb and True. I see another reviewer has the problem I have too, and saw a reviewer on BEST Buy with the same issue. On HDMI input, sometimes when channel surfing or just entering the channel digits, only the audio comes on, no picture. Just a faint blueish [backlight?] image. Turning the TV off / on fixes it, but its a pain. I have found, in my case, that using component cables fixed it too. I tried 2 VZN set top boxes, 2 different hdmi cables, and 3 different hdmi input jacks on the TV. All these didnt help, only using component connection did. It's like the turner doesnt "lock on" to the picture signal with hdmi , every so often.

FALSE MARKETING

Even though the TV's box has a big "Dolby Digital" logo, and marketing specification claim DD, this TV cannot output DD 5.1 audio when using its ATSC or QAM tuner. I don't know how Sony can get away with this, promising something but not delivering it. Other than this flaw, the picture quality is great, so I give 3 stars.

Good tv EXCEPT for ACE

Great tv out of the box EXCEPT for the Auto Contrast Enhancer feature which is VERY annoying during viewing... How does dimming the screen enhance your movie experience? Its more of a distraction than an enhancement.
