Sound Off

Have any of these speaker critics ever heard of a micro speaker system. Sony among others make them. Buy a TV/monitor for the pitcure, not the sound. That's what speaker systems are for. Sorry, I just couldn't stand another bad review based on TV speakers. All my equipment is Sony except for my speaker systems.

Awesome TV

This TV has everything my husband and I wanted. The speakers on ours do not buzz, however they don't produce the best sound, but we have found this to be true with most flat panel tv's. We have our sound running through a separate sound system anyway so it isn't an issue to us. The 120Hz refresh rate is absotuley wonderful, especially when playing video games. Its one of the few brands that play DivX movies. The fact that it uses half the energy of a standard energy saver model is great. I love that they put some of the inputs on the side of the tv for easy access and the rest on the back. I like that the tv controls are also on the side and not the bottom or backside. Overall, we are very happy with the TV.

40" BRAVIA VE5 Eco Series HDTV - Excellent

I have read some of the reviews after purchasing this television. I have not experience the difficulties with the audio that others have expressed. I am very happy with both the video and audio quality of this television. I purchased the television based on the reputation of the Sony name and I was not disappointed. I would have to say that I honestly would probably not have purchased the television if I read the reviews first. Because I have not found one thing I am dissatisfied with, I would have to give this a 5 star rating.

Defective TV!

This tv makes a terrible popping noise when changing from HD to Digital signals. The audio is also of poor quality. DO not buy this tv.

Terrible Sound

My TV has the same sound issue as the others here. There is buzzing vibration coming from the left speaker. I paid $200.00 more to get the Sony name, I guess that was a mistake. The TV will be returned tomarrow and I'll be purchasing another brand. I can't believe Sony hasn't done anything with all these bad reviews. I should have checked here first.

Poor audio

Same issue here. Audio is terrible from the TV set speakers using my Sat Bell box. A Bluray HDMI feed is a little better but not perfect.

First thing my wife says, "What's that Buzzing?"

I was tremendously excited for this beautiful new TV, and then turn it on and the first thing my wife says, "What's that buzzing sound? It sounds like a Bee." I feel like Sony needs to recall this item as a defective product. Too many people are experiencing the same issue. Will I buy a Sony again? Not sure. They have seriously affected my confidence in their products. If you like a great picture and aren't worried about listening to the TV as well, this TV might be for you. If you want low grade sound, this TV will not even live up to that expectation.

Excellent Purchase

I just received my television and Blu-Ray Player yesterday. I hooked them up and they work perfectly together. I had read the reviews about the bad sound and I could instantly tell what everyone was talking about. I ended up running the sound from the television to the receiver of my sound system. It definitely improved the audio situation. I was playing around with the different features and I like the ability to hook up a Flash Drive and play all your pictures. You can especially appreciate your photographs if you have a good digital camera. I also plan on buying the proper connection to be able to hook up my computer and use it as a large display.

My 1st HDTV

I upgraded from a 25 inch 10 year old Zenith SDTV that had kicked the bucket finally and the difference is GOD LIKE!! I've never owned an HDTV before this but i do know whats good and whats not good and this was definitely a good one! Colors are very rich and vibrant, lots selections in the options menu, and using a PS3 with this TV, its like the system goes with the TV perfectly, like it was definitely kept in mind when being designed. Sony really aimed high with this one and they delivered

Bad sound

We bought the KDL-40VE5 on boxing day 2009. We only focused on the screen while making comparison in store. The quality of sound totally in our blind spot until we got it home. There were annoying mufflings near the bass range. We took it back to the store and managed to get another brand new replacement. The 2nd unit is only a bit better. Still VERY DISSAPOINTED at the sound of the unit. Reading the other posts here. Mine doesn't seem to be an isolated incident.

Big Problem

We purchased this unit for Christmas without reading reviews first. The first unit had a terrible vibration in the left speaker about 30% of the time. Loud and very noticeable. We returned the unit and got another assuming it was an isolated issue. Second TV had the exact same problem. The store says the TV has been "discontinued." Perhaps that's Sony's way of handling what is obviously a known issue. This unit needs a recall. Do Not Purchase It!

Oh My - Family Gift has Manufactor defect

We got this home and set up. I have the same range vibration issue that is being discussed on this site and many others. I checked mount and it happens on both factory mount and wall mount. Considering the issue is reported and there is no solution, this unit will go back tomorrow. By the way - anybody reading this from Sony. This problem is being reported all over any site that has reviews for this unit. Maybe you should consider doing something about it.

Incredible quality and value

This set is nothing short of amazing! The picture this set delivers will just knock your eyes out. The contrast is very ,very high and the colors are so vivid and sharp that they come together to make an almost 3D picture. The menus are laid out in a most logical fashion. They are easy to navigate and each menu option has a little info bar which appears when you select a given option that tells you exactly what affect your menu choice will have for any given setting. The diversity of inputs are quite impressive as well. It has cable, several HDMI’s, component, and USB. There’s almost nothing you can’t connect to this unit. Any one who buys an HDTV simply must compliment it with a good surround system. I had an old component home theatre system which I replaced with Sonys’ DAV-HDX285 system for several reasons. The 1st of which is the superb sound quality, this system has a 5 disc changer that just ROCKS with thunderous bass and up coverts DVD‘s to 1080P. 2nd this system syncs itself to the Sony TV as well and unitizes the remote so you only need one remote for both the TV and Theatre system. 3rd I’ve installed many different systems for a lot of my family and friends and this system sounds better than any other system that I’ve installed before and most of them cost much more than this one. Lastly I was able to do away with my bulky old home theatre receiver, my huge tower speakers and my single disc DVD player as well. I could go on all day on how thrilled I a with this set. If your looking for a 40” HDTV, do your self a favor and visit a dealer who can demonstrate this unit for you. You’ll be amazed. I say you can’t find a better value for your money! I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Bad speakers negates great picture

I purchased this TV after seeing in it a retail store. The picture was great. I got home and setup the TV and noticed weird vibrating sound from the left side of the tv (when looking at the front). It occurred with a certain range of sound. This is even when the volume is only 1/4 of power. I tried different cables and sources (like the other reviewer) and the problem persisted. I returned the unit hoping the second one would not have this defect. The second unit is actually worse! The vibrating noise is heard throughout most TV programming and DVD movies. I am returning my second TV and will go back to the drawing board to figure out what my next best option will be. I am very disappointed w/ my experience. Sony was supposed to have a great reputation. Quality is missing from this unit and customer service hasn't been any better. Based on the poster above it sounds like I'm not the only one with the problem.

Simply remarkable

This is the finest TV I have ever owned. The picture quality of this TV is simply remarkable. The setup was easy and user-friendly EXCEPT for one major stumbling block I encountered. Sony has a feature called LIGHT SENSOR that “senses room light level and adjusts screen brightness accordingly.” This is annoying because I watch TV in the dark, and the sensor would keep darkening the screen and ruining the glorious picture quality. After three unsuccessful e-mails to Sony Service, a phone call finally revealed the fix. Buried deep in the TOOLS/PICTURE ADJUSTMENTS/SETUP menu is a function called ECO. Inside the ECO function is the elusive LIGHT SENSOR ON/OFF function. The fix was simple, but this is not covered in the manual or anywhere on-line. Sony should be aware of how irritating this is and make this information available online. This is still my favorite TV of all time.

I was enticed into buying this particular model because of it's price at Sears Columbus Day Sale which I saw on Sear's webpage. I got it brand new for $866.00 ( all said and done)after opening a Sears credit card. When I hooked it up I immediatly noticed that the picture was great and so was the contrast. One of the things that annoyed me was that it took nearly 40 minutes to find all the channels. (this tv is directly hooked up to a cable with no box) My 32 inch Shap which is now used for my bedroom set only took 5 minutes. Then I tried the tv with my PS3 and this is where I noticed the poor quality of sound . The left speaker was making this vibrating sound even when the volumn was only 1/4 of the way up. So I computer chatted with a sony tech who kept asking me the same questions over and over again. I got no where with him and decided to retun the set hoping that it was just bad luck. When I got my second TV home all hooked up I turned on my PS3 and now heard a vibrating sound from the right speaker. I comp. chatted again and the tech person and she said to try another HDMI cable. Well I did and that's not the problem. The problem is that the plastic( where the speakers are) are connected with the middle piece of plastic( the one where the eye detects your movement and light). This is what is causing the vibration. Behind the TV i placed 2 pieces of tape at the seams and it fixed the problem. Sony will not admit up to it that there is a major defect in design. The only reason I am keeping this TV is because of the price I paid for it and it does save energy on my electric bills.I must admit though, the picture is excellent. I would recommend buying a sound bar for this TV. However that would defete the purpose of saving the energy, wouldn't it? If you could get it again for my price then buy it and follow my advice with the speakers and you'll be fine.

Just set Up In Minutes and Enjoy Excellent Picture

Out of the box and hook up extremely simple. Picture is clear and crisp with little or no adjustment to personal taste. Audio is a disapointment as set speakers don't seem to produce quality sound. Use your own speakers or sound system. Otherwise an excellent TV well worth the price.
