Great all a rounder with 1 issue

love this lens, been using it for macro, landscapes and portraits just because the colors and bokeh are so nice. The only down side is the really strong vignette when not doing macro, and the vignette has a very strong color cast that makes it pretty much impossible to correct. I usually just leave it in and accept it as part of the lens's character, but it is annoying some times.

Outstanding Lens

I got this lens for my wife. It is the first time that either of us have used a macro, but I think the the image quality is fantastic. It's a very solid lens with extremely sharp pics. The price wasn't too bad either.

Excellent lens and craftsmanship, very durable, full metal body construction.

As a botanist that requires precision macro photography for publications, I was excited to experiment with the Venus Laowa 60mm 2.8/f Ultra Macro lens. I would say it out performed my Nikon Nikkor 60mm micro lens; which I was surprised and pleased. I am looking forward to using it on an up coming field expedition in southern Arizona and New Mexico and possibly invest in their Laowa 25mm ultra macro for focus stacking projects. Cheers!!

If you like macro, go for it.

Good lens - However I would stress that it is only the starting point for good macro shots. A tripod, camera flash, automated distance gage etc. would be really useful in capturing good macro shots. The lens itself is wonderful, just takes a lot of work to get used to.Also, there are cheaper ways to try macro if you are just getting started and don't want to drop this kind of cash.

A little macro lens that could

well I’ve enjoyed using this lens . The Venus laowa 60mm macro . To me it’s smaller than I had thought . Due to my 50 mm sigma is bigger and heavier . The Chromatic aberration is well-controlled . The picture is sharp and clean . It does have some serious focus breathing . How ever it’s due to the 2 x end of the focus lol so no worries . In short as long as you comfortable using a manual focus lens you will certainly be happy with this one !

Excellent Macro

This is a very sharp lens capable of great close-up photography. It maintains it's sharpness across the image with only slight fall off on the edge. It takes some practice to use and requires a tripod and patience. Highly recommend.

Works well for focus stacking

Bought mine new from Adorama's eBay site. My initial impression wasn't good---the specimen I received had a defective mounting collar, such that the lens would not lock in place when mounted on any of my Sony bodies. Any attempt to turn the focusing ring would instead rotate the entire lens in the mount. Had to return the lens to Venus, and I had to pay the overseas shipping cost. Not happy about that. Venus did send me a new, working replacement, no questions asked, which I received 2-3 weeks later. This lens rounds out my macro armamentarium. For anything up to 1x, I primarily use my Sony 100mm f2.8 macro. if a subject required more magnification, previously I had relied on my old Minolta 1x-3x macro zoom--- a great lens but somewhat impractical for fieldwork. The Venus now fills that void. Most of my photography involves outdoor macro focus stacking and hence the Venus lens is usually tripod mounted to insure image alignment. Moreover, beyond 1:1 magnification, handholding is out of the question. For these reasons, the lack of image stabilization is not not an issue; similarly I have no need for infinity focus so can't comment on that aspect of the lens. The lack of electronic communication with the camera (namely, no aperture readout---I can live without autofocus) is a nuisance but you get used to it. Overall I am pleased with the resolution of the lens on my Alpha 77 and 99 bodies. Ignoring the fact that my first one was grossly defective, I would give this lens 5 stars if it had data coupling with my Sony cameras.

Good Quality lens

A little hard to use as it is all manual but most Macros need to be used in Manual anyway. it seems easy to focus and seemed to have a larger Depth of Field then my sony 90mm I liked that the focus ring is large and moves easy.

Just purchased this lens and it's a great deal for the price.

Just purchased this lens and it's a great deal for the price. 2X magnification at F/2.8 for $379. It's manual only but so what. Good optics in a metal barrel. Focus ring is a little stiff, but again, so what.

Great Nikon Value!

So far I like it. The 2x is what sold me. I previously tried macro with a lens I fashioned from bits and an old lens I reversed. It worked, but kept falling apart. This is much better.
