Questions & Answers

Sharon T : We have been using one set of headphones very happily for over three years. I would like to get a second set for the occasional visitor to use so two people can watch the TV using two sets. Will this work if only one cradle is plugged into the headphone jack?CHERYL S : Yes, my husband uses the first set and I use the second set and only the first one is plugged into the tv. You have to make sure the first set is off the cradle before the second set will pickup the signal and you have to keep the second set plugged in to keep charged. We use them when we babysit our grandchild and he is napping. Love these Sony headsets. The sound is great and they are very lightweight.MARK H : Yes - we currently use as many as (4) at one time on the same TV. We have each one hooked to different TVs but you can bring any one or all of them to any of the TVs and as long as the one is off the cradle for the TV you are watching, you just need to push the small button below the volume in order to get connected to that cradle receiver.PATRICIA S : I haven't tried to use two at the same time with one cradle.
Bob S : How do you change the batteries?JOHN C : Head set recharges when hung on stand. I've had mine about 2yrs and never had to change the batteries. I use almost daily.PAUL J : Hello, Bob S. Only Sony can change out the batteries. They have to be sent to Sony and for a minimal charge, and they replace the battery. Google this term for phone number: call sony replacement batteryTOMMY C : I'm sorry but I really don't know. It's a gift for my father in law and he hasn't mentioned about replacing batteries. He's not a tech guy so I would think it isn't to difficult.
Shopper : does tv sound still work when earphones are in use?DAVID Y : This depends on how you hook the headphones up to the TV. You can hook it up to 'surround sound' output, for instance, to keep the TV speakers on. Otherwise, you can hook them up to 'audio out' to have sound come only through the headphones. Short answer, with most TVs, you can hook up the headphones in either configuration: both with TV speaker sound, and without. Consult your TV manual for specific details.JOHN C : YESMARK H : We have 2 different sets on 2 different TVs and yes both of the TVs volume still works when headsets are in use.ERIK F : Depends on the TV... if the TV has a single "earphone" jack, then more than likely the speaker audio will shut off when you plug it in. You can confirm this with any kind of earphone that has the same plug. Some TV's have a separate "line out" jack that is always on, and some have a "setup" option that allows you to select whether the earphone jack and speaker are active at the same time.BURT B : Yes, if you plug the red and white jacks into the red and white audio receptacles on your sound system, DVR, or TV and the mini plug into the tower.PAUL J : Hello, "Shopper." Depending on the television you have, the sound will be cut off when you plug in a 3.5mm jack into the earphone, headphone. If you have a television that has RCA cable in/out, the sound from the television will not be affected. It depends upon the way you intend to access the audio/out, RCA or mini-plug jack. You have picked a very good brand of wireless headphones. Happy listening! Sony MDR-RF985RKCARL P : I think this would depend on your TV. On my Samsung LCD, the answer is "Yes". If I only want headphones, I have to turn the TV sound to zero (or mute it). But when my Mom would visit, she would use the headphones (since she is hard of hearing) while my wife and I listened to the TV sound.

Easy to Set Up, Excellent Wireless Acoustics

We are on our third set of these Sony headphones. We love them, for their ease of use and set-up, plus excellent reception especially for the hearing impaired.

Static and Flakes

Static happens on each channel at 6ft distance. Even more disappointing, the ear pads leave black flakes on your ears and face.

Long lasting battery, great sound

Happy with these after several years.Batteries still strong. Reception suggestions: Keep the transmitter as far away as possible from magnetic speakers and metal objects. Sometimes a little thought into what is around the transmitter will help you pick the best location.

Horrible

I bought a couple weeks ago. Wish I had bought something else. At first worked great and after a couple days, static started to get worse and worse. Then there was a constant tone along with the static and now the signal refuses to stay constant so its intermittent static/tone combo ontop of the audio from my tv. Other wired headphones work well but chords are to short.

Sound & quality are very good.

The headphones work really well, the battery life is really long, however after about ten months, I started to get a lot of static in the ear pieces. Move transmitter around with no effect. Still an excellent headphones.

Deteriorating headband and ear piece

I've had this headset for a couple of years and similar to many reviewers, ALL the foam is deteriorating and leaves debris all over my ears and head. I've only used it about once a month max and is kept out of direct sunlight. Sound quality if irrelevant if you have to take a shower every time you wear this.

Very comfortable!

I have difficulty finding headphones that fit properly and these are nicely adjustable over a wide range. In addition, the ear cups themselves are very comfortable for long listening periods. I use them to listen to music and videos on my computer without disturbing the rest of the family and also in my home/amateur music studio... most "wireless" (bluetooth) headphones don't work well for these applications since they introduce a significant delay ("latency") that makes it impossible to sync your playing with an existing recorded track. The audio quality is not really up to "studio" standards, but for my own, amateur use they have proven to be very effective (and far less expensive than true studio quality wireless headphones). I have had them for about 2 1/2 years now and they have proven to be a nice addition to my setup. Overall, I highly recommend them for low (zero) latency applications and long wearing comfort, particularly for folks who are otherwise "hard to fit".

Works fine

I bought these in 2014 and they have worked fine. In fact, I have 2 pair. My only problem is the flaking from the entire headband. Does model rf995 replace this model/ If so, will we have the same problem with flaking?

Battery Life

I purchased these headphones online a little over 6 months ago. At first they seemed fantastic, but soon the battery life started to get shorter and shorter. Six months later and the batteries last less than 20 minutes when full charged. Apparwently the batteries cannot be changed by the user either.

Long lasting source of listening pleasure

I have depended on my two sets of Sony Wireless headphones for the last 15 years. They have continued, without fail, to provide me with listening pleasure up to 16 hours a day. The charge holds as well now as when I bought them. My only problem is worn out ear pads, and they are replaceable.

Totally Frustrated

We have two sets. The right speaker does not work in either. The sound in one set continues to intermittently short out. We are so disappointed.

Effectively Unusable

Given this as a gift from work and feel I still overpaid. Audio cuts out, fades to nothing or fills full of static even in arm's reach of the transmitter. Perfect line of sight to transmitter still fills with static less than 3 feet away. Would certainly not recommend.

Great sound

I love these wireless headphones for watching tv. Have had them, plus 2other pairs for awhile now. The ear pads do wear out and start to flake off pieces of the headphones. I bought some replacement pads online that are not Sony. They fit, but after awhile they hurt my ears. Where can I buy the Sony replacement ear pads?

Great headphones

I just picked these up today used and I've gotta say, as an audiophile these are pretty amazing. My only complaint is they're not loud enough for my personal taste but they are worth every penny.

Very disappointed!

I received the first pair for Christmas 2017. After 2 weeks the transmitter stopped transmitting to the earphones. No amount of troubleshooting helped. Returned them to the store for a different pair. The 2nd pair lasted 3 weeks before the transmitter stopped transmitting to the earphones. Returned the 2nd pair to the store. Very disappointed. Probably will stay away from purchasing Sony products in the future. Too bad. At one time Sony products were high quality, but not anymore apparently.

Happy Wife

I love these more than my husband loves them. Is it possible to replace the ear cushions as the out layer is peeling on one side. This is the side he falls asleep on!

Sony is a brand that stands for its quality

It's coming up 5 years this summer owning a pair of these headphones. These headphones have been the backbone to my pc gaming. 5 years of nearly 4-16 hours use a day, the battery still stays charged for 12+ hours at a time, the sound is still excellent quality and even surpasses a newer pair I bought from logitech! I will be looking to Sony for future headphones in the future indefinitely! One small problem, that occured about 2 years after purchase was the ear pads, the black coating started to peel off, and continues to do so, little by little. Sometimes this causes a little discomfort. I absolutely recommend these headphones, and I hope when this pair breaks, I can order a new pair!

Terrible Headphones

After having fairley inexpenssive Senheizer headphones, These headphones are the worst. The Bass is terrible or it doesn't have any. The range is bad as well. I should have stuck with the Senheizer headphones.

Dissappointed

Bought in July 2017 and have used reliably since. While using the headphones, they just stopped working. nothing i tried worked to resolve the problem. Unit was charged, power on, A/V connections all good, and the channel selection did not work. Will be returning these. For the money, should get more than 5 months use out of these. I only use a couple of times a week in the evening.

Ive had these for a few years now. Their ok but the distance of reception isn't very strong I find. And they allow a lot of static interference.

WIRELESS HEADPHONES THAT WORK GREAT
