Purchased these and the sound is okay clear and the bass side is also okay fits comfortably for many hours of use

It does sound pretty good. Only thing is it gets kinda uncomfortable after some time

You get Sony's signature bass effects & an even sound signature with this product. If you are a bass head, this is the best option for you at this price point. But if you are not a bass head, I would not suggest this product for you. The product is extremely comfortable to wear & has long lasting durability. Microphone quality is also good for taking calls. Overall, its a budget monster!

Best In This Budget

I had these for 2 years and honestly they sound amazing and last for a long time best headphones I had

Amazing

I bought these headphones years ago for travel and they continue to perform well after all this time. The ear pads are comfortable, but after a couple years the stitching on the inside came away on one side.

The only two issues I have is that the top of the headband is hard plastic, and while durable, it is not comfortable for extended wear. I have a shaved head and it would leave a mark. As well, the microphone is always on unless you hold mute. I would prefer a toggle, since I play online video games and do not want my mic always on. I can control it from the game but I would prefer to control from headphones. 

Unfortunately, since these headphones are so old, replacing them with a wireless version is more cost effective now. I will be looking at choosing another Sony model most likely, but with over-ear noise cancelling and wireless bluetooth capabilities.

These headphones have not yet kicked the bucket, so I am not going to replace them yet.

Best headset ever

I bought this yesterday and the right ... was popping of every time i tried to listen to music.

Faulty

After spending sometime reading and researching for good sounding headphones without paying a fortune, I settled on the MDR XB450AP and couldn't be happier. These are not easily found as they seemed replaced by the XB550AP which many will say don't sound as good as the 450. I don't have an opinion on the 550 but these 450 are incredible. They are very comfortable despite not having padding on the top headband and built wise, they seem very well made. 

About the sound, I have to admit that straight out of the box, I was a bit disappointed as they were a bit too bass heavy and took away from the mids and highs. Once I spent 2 min tweaking the equalizer of my source, these headphones came to life! They have a nice warm and rich sound, a very deep and tight bass response and brings enjoyment to listening to quality recording. They are revealing, so if you play poorly recorded material, you will notice quickly! If you can get your hands on a set, you will not regret it.

I was comparing my beats with these and I was shocked from the results.

This is better then my beat solo 3s

The audio quality is very good for music, gaming, and just everyday stuff.
The one con about this is the fact that after a few months of owning it the ear cushions have opened.

Great quality, poor cushions

I purchased these headphones to take on the road with my notebook computer. They have a solid, bottom end without being "boomy". I tweaked the sound profile with my audio card's equalizer and am quite pleased with the sound. Great sound for a product at this level. They are also comfortable to wear for extended periods.
The only thing that I am wary of is the build quality for the long term. They are made of light weight plastic and don't expect that they will tolerate a whole lot of hard knocks. We shall see.

For headphone below rm300, I would say this is a pretty good headphone.
Solid bass.
Reasonably good clarity only if comparing with products of similar price range.
Not really feeling comfortable after wearing for about 2-3 hours is the only significant disadvantage (especially for people who wears spectacles).

Im a 22 year old guy, I have been wearing them mostly on the bus and around the University. I love my rap, they punch and sound pretty dece. Not expensive like alot of headphones. Would not recommend for work outs as the muffs can be a touch warm . Go for jaybird freedoms for that.

Solid headphone

I bought them as a noice canceling headset, that should nicely complement my iPhone and MacbookPro, BUT... there is one huge "but", this info was in manual description to headphones and has nothing real with the real life. I was trying to do anything for my laptop sees the microphone as well as I was trying to use them as a Siri companion (as it was described in manual), and nothing happened. Was talking to Apple's support, cause thought that's a problem from my side, we cleared with the support's assistant that it's not. After I tried to use external video card to check if the microphone is working. It's working... but for the bad I can not use one mini jack in two holes (microphone and audio entrance are separate on my external video card)... so that's it. I checked them on other machines and the story was the same. I changed them to another pair, but it seems like it's the same problem of all of them. After I found a lot of feedbacks with the same issue from another users, but it was too late to refund them. 

Another minus is ear cups. After using them for a while you start to feel how they make a pressure on your auricle. So it's not comfortable to use them all day long. If you are a music gik, this pair is not quite ergonomic for you.

As for design, they look cool.

Great sound

The MDR-XB450 won me over so much I'm getting Sony MDR-1000x. I was on a budget when I bought these MDR-450s. I'm on rap and hip hop mainly and sound is punchy all over. Volume through my iPhone is great. I use them on the train and they block noise out really well for the price point. Recommended.

Awesome while they lasted

Love these headphones, good sound range, if you like your music bassy then these are a must. The ear pieces have a lovely soft covering which is essential for me as I wear them in bed during the night, not too tight and don't slide off like some I've bought before. The cord is really long with a choose of jack sizes.
I can honestly say these are the best headphones I've used, love everything about them..what else would you expect from Sony..

Terrific sound.

I was considering a new set of earphones for listening to music but I hadn't put much thought into which ones I wanted. I was out shopping one day and out of the corner of my eye I saw these bright blue ear cups on a demo station in an electronics store, so I just had to try them on. I then turned the demo station onto the Rock channel and was really impressed with the audio quality and how comfortable the headphones are. I knew I had to buy them, and was immediately pleased with my purchase. Thinking back, I'm not sure why I ever thought earphones were a good idea, I just get irritated by them and they never fit properly. Following on from this, I was curious as how good the microphone quality was on the headphones as I often wear a headset for chat while I am at my PC, and was previously using two different and uncomfortable headsets at work and at home. I tested it in a chat with some friends and they said how clear I was, so at this point I knew I was going to be able to use them for more than their original purpose. At work especially, where there is often external noise when I'm on a call, I really appreciate how well these headphones block out external noise. In short, they were an impulse buy that replaced something I was intending to buy along with two other existing products. I absolutely would recommend these headphones.
