Great sound!

I don't care what the headphones look like and I love the sound only problem is that everyone with 20 feet can here what you are listening to perfectly.

Great for newer music

My experiences with headphones are fairly limited. On a sunny day, you will find me out in the yard with my Sony MDR-V6's listening to tunes. They provided a great balanced sound. They're great for mixing too.... But I was looking for a new sound when I bought these. These headphones have BASS! They can really pump out some clean, fairly balanced bass. They do get lower than the XB500's, which sound great as well, and are a lot better than the XB300's. A lot of people question if these are better than Beats by Dre. I have listened to Beats Studios (never pros) and I must say, they are a muddy mess. The bass is not clean and the highs and mids seem to be lacking. They also have active noise canceling which in my opinion wash out the bass. These produce a much cleaner sound with much more detail than the Beat's muffled mess. Now I can't compare them to Pros because I've never heard them but considering these cost 1/4 the price.... Minor Issues Almost all headphones have a flaw. These have only a few. For one, the cord is too short. I like my V6's 10 foot cord a lot. If you're using your iPod, the cord is fine. One complaint I've heard about these is that the highs are 'sparky'. I feel that rather than the highs being sparky, there is just a slight lack in the midrange. I've heard that this can be easily EQ'ed out however. Comparison to other XB headphones: MDR-XB300: Yuck. Don't buy these. MDR-XB500: The 500s are quite similar to these. If you are a serious basshead and all you care about is having some punchy, powerful bass, these are a great option. They also get slightly louder (driver size probably). MDR-XB700: These are my favorite, the sound for me is just higher quality. MDR-XB1000: I have never heard these, because they stopped producing them just before I bought these. Based on my extensive research, the 1000's were the best. In blind tests, many people said these were better than Beats Pros (if you actually care about beats; I really don't). If you have the money (they cost about twice as much as the 700s) and find a legitimate pair, these are the way to go. For money's sake, I just bought the 700's from Adorama. They are still a great pair of headphones. Other thoughts: I am in NO WAY comparing these to my V6's. If you are mixing/recording/editing music, buy a pair of MDR-V6's (Or any other high quality pair of studio headphones). They cost about the same and provide a great balanced sound. The XB700s are just fun-to-listen-to headphones and should not be used in a studio.

Don't buy Beats!!

I just sold my $400 Beats pro studios and these nearly match the bass but with so much clearer midrange and highs, would recommend these over any beats any day

Bass and clarity for days

I've had these headphones for about 6 months now and I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for these yet. Let me tell you that if you plan on getting a pair of these it will be worth it! Note that they are clear and full of bass and prefer these headphones over all my others. It's a worthy investment and I am really glad how sturdy and well they were made.

The Headphones are SO VERY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

So my review of this product is there very awesome high quality headphones! The sound is AMAZING!!!!! The BASS is like AWESOME!!!!!! BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!! & for what your getting for the price is just CRAZY!!!! You get a carrying Case with the headphones!!!!! & the headphones WAAAAY BETTER then Dr. Dre's as you save $170 BUCKS!!!!!(Studio) Or ($270 BUCKS if it's the PRO) & They PUMP OUT WAY BETTER & MORE BASS!!!!!! The only con is they really need to get some more padding on the band that goes around your head, but other then that, there AWESOME! & they have PLENTY of padding for your EARS!!!!! I mean, the padding for your ears are big as sleeping pillows, so don't worry about that :) My final review... ALTHOUGH THE COMFORT WITH LACK OF PADDING IS A CON FOR ME... THE HEADPHONES HAVE AN AWESOME PUMPING BASS! HAVE AWESOME SOUND!!!!! AND HAVE A GREAT VALUE!!!!!! WORTH IT!!!!! ESPECIALLY OVER THE DR's Headphones!!!!!

The Very Best

I am an avid user of these headphones and I absolutely love them. They sound amazing and while they are dorky looking when my friends try them on they absolutely love them, even more than the Beats Studios which cost 3 times more. I got these for 60 and for that price these are absolutely amazing. I find no flaws in the sound quality as they are even better that the Bose that I have as well, and the best part is you don't ever need a battery for this. Put down the 70mm and go for the 50's. These are amazing.

The Headphones That Make Audiophiles Happy

As said in the 'pros' section, the frame is quite robust. Since it is a 50 mm driver headphone, it would be quite heavy when you put it on your head but it's actually quite comfortable. After prolonged use, the frame flexes back into its original position preserving the headphone's original packaged presentation. (I would not recommend putting these around your neck and just use the included carrying pouch for transportation.) Sony has had quite the reputation for producing some serious speakers in the past and it definitely shows with the XB700's. The bass doesn't explode in your ears, unless you want it to of course, courtesy of the ability to handle 3 watts of power, and the trebles are clear and crisp; despite this being a bass-heavy headphone. From classical and contemporary to trance and vocals, these headphones will reproduce all of the sounds with great precision and balance. Overall, these headphones exceed most of my expectations of functionality and durability save for cable length. Though a longer length would probably mean that someone would carelessly step on the cable. I guess these headphones are not meant to be shared so why not make a stop at your local Sony Store and pick the headphones that make audiophiles happy.

awesomest headphones in the whole wide world

These headphones destroy beats by dre through the roof. Monster headphones are all about looks but not quality. I'm very selective about my headphones....monster doesn't even come near for this price. The bass is out of this world....the looks aren't that great. IF you're searching for looks these are not the headphones for you. IF you're searching for awesome sound quality, comfort and rigidness. this is the one!!!!

Best headphone in their class!

First of all, the sound quality is INCREDIBLE! I have EQ'd these headphones to increase the bass even more, but even before then it was great! Second, these are very light, and I can take them along with me. Perfect for what I do! I am a small-time DJ, and for the money I have, these are Definitely the best you can buy for less then $150. Trust me, these are a great choice! The only problem in my opinion, is the length of the cord, but for what most of you are probably going to use it for, this won't be a problem. It is a problem for me because I need to be able to move around with them around one ear and mix, but I'm still doing just fine. You learn to live with it.

Great Headphones

the headphones are greatttt! but they can "handle 3000 milliwatts" sure, but they sound bad after 60 mW haha that got me pretty upset, i was expecting to be able to listen to these at high volumes, but i hope my second pair is better they are sending me another pair because of the left ear rattling, the right ear performed fine with my headphone amp at 100mW so it was a defect, sony said they were suprised from the rattling too so the second pair should sound great, the 50mm driver is gigantic and sounds great you can easily hear the difference between 256kbps and 320kbps wich made me very happy,The bass is nice and punchy, the mids are nice and mellow but clear, and the highs are crisp and clear i am very happy on how they perform, even if they only sound good at 60mW. These blow the beats by dre out of the water i tested them side by side, they sound even better than the beats pro too i campared them side by side also, although they arent nearly as durable or comfortable haha hence the price. You really cant get better headphones for the price if they are for listening, dont get them for djing because the headband is thin and would probably break over time of the rough handling but for normal music and audiophiles i recommend this all the way accross the sky (double rainbow)-lol BTW-mW is milliwatts not megawatts 60megawatts would probabaly kill you and wreck your house down like there was an earthquake lol

Exactly what I expected

They are what you'd expect from looking at the specs. They have a beautiful design and the sound quality is amazing all around. They are bass heavy but it's not overpowering and that's why you buy these headphones. They have nice crisp highs and the mid frequencies are perfect too. I find that sometimes the mids get drowned out by the bass but it depends more on the mix and quality of the song than the headphones themselves. Overall amazing quality and frequency response for the price!

king of bass....

i have been using this for one year ,i purchased this when it came to market ,i really loved everything and it performed well as i was expected but the one thing i hated the soft material which is inside the earpad stripped off very soon which means that inside layer removed i dont know whether it effect the sound quality ,this is i thing due to heat and sweat, except that every thing looks fine, if u r a bass lover definitely its your choice

I'm listening to them as I type. Everything you want is in there. Plenty of bass The high's & Mid's are great! That's what make you turn them up! Its all in these headphones. The headset's ear pads are nice & soft. Your ear's get kind of hot, because you want to keep these on all the time.

Bass, very bass.

I bought it like one year ago. Despite its the bulkiest headphone on the market I carried it everywhere (even on a plane). The design is very original. The construction and materials make it ¨stronger¨ than anyone out there. The synthetic earmuffs silence the external world for you. The Extra Bass feature and the fidelity of sound is one of the best I ever experienced. It is a must to have!

The headphones are exceptional! This is What you would expect from a Sony product, PURE QUALITY! The plug is the only cons on the unit. Besides that They are EXCELLENT! Some may complain about the size of the headphones, what do you expect, big headphones BIG SOUND.

It's worth more than 129.99 (Ctrl Alt Elite)

These MDR-XB700 Extra Bass Headphones do compare to Sennheiser HD800 which are currenty 1400$ and, I am going to tell you why. The driver size in these are 50mm when the driver units in the HD 800's are 55.88mm which isn't too far off. The Sony headpones have a power handling capacity of 3000 megawatts where the HD 800's have a power handling capacity of 1000 megawatts. The Sony bass headphones have a frequency response of 3 - 28,000 Hz where the HD 800's have a frequency response of 6 – 51,000 Hz (- 10 dB), 14 - 44,100 Hz (- 3 dB) so, since the Sony ones can get as low as 3, the bass will sound deeper than the HD 800's. Yes, the HD800's have a higher pitch frequency than the Sony heasphones but the Sony ones were made for deep and rich bass and you will get that. Especially if you have a good sound card with a good EQ. Even with Sony's technology, they can gain those high pitch frequencies in these headphones since they are very good with what they make and they stand by their product for it will satisfy most people and anyone that is a bass finatic like me. I could go more into detail about the specs between these Sony headphones and "higher" end headphones that are 250 - 1400 dollars. The bottom line, these headphones do and can blow most of those higher priced headphones out of the water. I am a computer technician myself so, take my opinion for what it's worth.

These headphones are amazing and are worth the money. When i unboxed them the first thing i thought were that these headphones are huge and look great and reliable. When I put them on i said these have to be the most cunfortable headphones out there and i didnt want to take them off. After listening to music for about an hour i was amazed on how loud these can actualy get and how much bass they can put out. So if you want a great pair of headphones that are loud, clear, and have lots of bass then these are for you. Trust me you wont want to take them off there just that good

My audiophile needs are fulfilled

I am an audiophile, enthusiast if you will, who has been deeply researching the best headphones for their value, comfort, and performance. This pair of headphones exceed anything I've ever experienced. I bought these headphones with the thought "They look comfy, but it seems like all this thing will do is have deep bass, the mid and high tones will probably be weak." I was amazed with my results! Not only did these headphones have fantastic bass, but all other tones were perfect as well! Better than expected! I enjoy a wide variety of music and expect the best audio from such a high price product. These headphones are beyond comfortable, in most cases no matter what headphones you buy, you will eventually get tired of wearing them. In this case, I wanna wear them all day! They pretty much cancel out all noises naturally and they make your head feel "good." There really is no other way to put it. These headphones make you feel comfortable, more so then without them on. This product is actually the best money can buy. I can easily say my search for the perfect headphones has stopped here. Sony, you never cease to amaze me! Especially now!

Wow is the only thing I can say

I am a studio engineer and an ardent audiophile. After trying a multichannel set of phones from another manufacturer, I was severely disappointed. So I bought these incredible headphones. Some say they are bass heavy..well that is what they are designed for..but with a little tweaking on the EQ..you can make these phones sound excellent across the whole audio spectrum. I do not find them lacking in any of the audible sound spectrum as long as you EQ them. I love them and would recommend them to anyone. Be sure to have a very good quality sound output source..as these phones love that.

It's Bass quality is perfect. Not like other headphones it doesn't exaggerate the bass by lowering other mid range tones. I just tried my ordinary earphone after listening by these and i found out my normal earphone doesn't deliver any bass at all. These are great and i'm quite satisfied with them. :)
