David R. A : Everybody out there-- what has been your experience with service on these Sony cameras? My last experience? An impossibly high price quoted for repairs so I just gave the camera to Sony -- for parts, I guess. Sony seems to have a monopoly on Sony repairs. And in the end, my experience left a bad taste in my mouth after I basically let them have my camera. So i'm likely to just avoid Sony.
Shopper : Is the pop-up flash directly above the lens otherwise you will get side shadows(?)
Shopper : Does this camera have a flash? I see no mention of it in the specs?

Rx 100 VIi a compact travel companion

A convenient travel companion that is good enough most of the time. However not too weather resistant in winter. Screen will shutdown itself.

Useful little pice of kit

This is a great little convenient camera. So easy to carry rather than the Mirrorless Full Frame camera and lenses that I gave up in order to make my photography easier. Good quality photos produced and a nice quick camwra as well. I have found the buttons a little fiddly but that is partly because of my sausage fingers and transitioning from a large Mirrorless cameras. I'm still trying to get used to the whole camera setup and menus as it differs somewhat from my previous Canon camera. The menus maybe could be a little easier and with better terminology in the user manual. One thing I'm struggling with is the vignetting and image distortion when using the short lens lengths. Even in post processing doesn't always eradicate the problem in my images.

Compact Powerhouse

Wanted a more portable camera to replace my digital slr and various lenses. There are a few on the market that offer great street photography, low light performance but none that also offer the range of zoom that the Sony offers with a great sensor and an array of features. Delighted with the camera

Superb little compact camera

I've had my eye on a small compact for ages and finally decided on the Sony RX100 VII after getting hands on at The Wales & West Photography show two weeks ago. What an amazing little camera. It totally surpassed my expectations. Superb image quality and functions such as auto focus and auto exposure excel too. In addition to the monitor it has an excellent bright pop up viewfinder, an absolute must for me. Build quality is second to none and it oozes quality in the hand. For such a small camera it really does out perform itself and for image quality it genuinely competes with many full frame mirrorless cameras. Still experimenting with all the features but so far verdict is excellent!

Best full function compact.

Have use earlier version of this camera in numerous settings. For its size it rivals the results of my full frame Canon albeit without interchangeable lenses. Thrilled to have it.

Brilliant features, incredibly compact, and fun.

I bought this camera ahead of a holiday with my father as I wanted to be a bit more intentional with the photos and memories from trip. I'd class myself as an amateur when it comes to photography but the abilities of this camera helped bridge that gap - I have some great images now that seem to have more life than those I achieve on my phone camera. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to get into photography, I thought the price was high until I researched a little more and realised this camera will support me as I grow in skill over a long time. Its size makes it perfect for almost all situations and I've been using it a lot. It's pretty much replaced my phone camera and I'm really happy with the results.

Unusable

I bought this 3 weeks ago and after 2 it wouldn't turn on. Had the battery replaced and same thing happened again, on the first day of my holiday. Useless. Will be asking for a refund. Would give zero stars if that was an option.

Poor Service but good product

Poor retail and call centre service experience but good product. Has made me reconsider all future Sony product purchases directly from the Sony store. This used to be a brand which took pride in what they did. Sad to say that this does not seem to be the case anymorr

Replacement/Upgrade for a similar compact Camera

Bought this 1 month ago as a replacement for an similar model (DSC-RX100M7A) which was very heavily used and SONY could not fix/refurbish. Same look and feel and build quality. Great compact little camera.

Excellent photos, love the viewfinder

I have only scratched the surface of the camera's features but so far I am delighted with the quality of the photos that have taken with it. Great depth of colour and contrast. The viewfinder is excellent and I was relieved to find that it is possible to adjust its focus to suit one's eye prescription.

Perfect camera and a perfect size

A great pocket size very capable camera which suits my needs having downsized from a mirrorless full frame camera and all the kit. It's a solid well built compact with many helpful onboard functions. Still have to use it to any amount but looking forward to it.

Excellent camera for always available use.

I bought this to replace my mirrorless Z6 on trips and to have a camera available at all times. I love using it , but found the Sony stup and menus very difficult to use after using Nikon for so long.I tried the silicone case but found it too difficult to activate buttons. It should come with the handgrip already fitted ,not as an add on. The EVF is very clear and bright and nevessary in sunny shooting conditions. A very useful piece of gear to my usual dslr/ mirrorless inventory.

Many problems

This camera is surprisingly complicated to use. The digital display of date and icons to tiny and not enlargeable. The on/off button is very sensitive such that the camera can be turned off and on accidently. All in all, the camera is not really very practical or useful.

Top quality compact, feature filled camera.

I upgraded from my Sony RX100 V to the VII version which benefits with a zoom range of up to 200mm. The VII version is as compact and pocketable as the previous model but is even better in flexibility, quality and sped of use. Ideal as a top quality travel camera.

Best-in-Class

I needed an "all-rounder" travel camera that can double up as a street photographer camera. Did my research and due diligence. Took my chance on a 2019 dated camera in 2026. No regrets. It is still relevant and still the best-in-class. Compact size. 28mm-200mm zoom. Fast focus. View Finder. Image quality. Build quality.

Great camera!

Love the form factor and sleek design. A lot of pro features in such a small package. A little slippery to hold but with the wrist lanyard feels sufficiently secure. Battery runs fast during my holiday luckily I bought a spare battery with me. Photo quality was great for a compact camera. EVF comes in handy during sunny situation. Overall it is enjoyable to use especially during on vacation.

Third Eye

Im visually impaired ( left eye) therefore I miss a lot of what is on the screen. The EVF on this little beauty has given me my love of photography back. I had been using another camera for the past year ( no EVF) sunlight was a huge disadvantage for me. I absolutely love the pop up EVF simple to use and helps me get much clearer views of my subject. I've only just begun to explore the numerous settings. I think to date, the one I use the most is the "clear zoom" getting me so much closer to my subject.

Compact and great performance

Bought this to take more photos of my active kid, glad that I did. Being compact means it is easier for me to bring along almost everywhere, and the autofocus performance and zoom range allows me to capture moments what is not ideal with my phone.

The pictures are clear and the response to the different objects are good. However, I have an issue with the shutting down. The camera seems to response slower in shutting down in cold weather(around 5 degrees).

In a relationship with this piece of kit.

Well it's a bit early to judge, heck we had the last one for 8 or 9 years, but so far yeah, everything is great. The longer lens has been a bonus- a little unexpectedly, I didn't think we would use the extreme end too much. It's a great piece of kit, so solid and so small that it's ever present. We did add a bottom plate and grip accessory- last time we added the stick on grip which worked well too. Picture quality is very good for a sensory this size.

Quality bit of kit and

I've only had the camera a couple of weeks and am still getting to grips with it but my initial impressions are very favourable. I've taken some half decent shots, shared them and they've been much admired. The layout and handling are familiar from my owning an rx100. It feels like a quality bit of kit and in the designated Sony case it's dead classy. Pleased with my purchase.

About Sony RX100 VII

PRO REVIEW by Sal D'Alia, Photographer, Director, Editor, Producer

"I'm pretty excited about this Mark VII. I own the Mark V, and it's my favorite travel camera, and you have so many features in one tiny body like this one. Sony brought all the technologies of the a9 — their flagship camera — into the RX100 Mark VII, including the real-time AF tracking, and eye AF for humans and animals. Plus, the best upgrade: there's finally a microphone jack! "

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera

Sony sets a new bar for compact cameras with the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera. This seventh-generation camera from the RX100 series packs a built-in ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-200mm F/2.8-4.5 zoom lens. This zoom lens boasts high magnification, as well as auto-focus speeds of 0.02 seconds. It can also cover telephoto and wide-angle focal lengths. The RX100 VII has a redesigned 20.1MP 1" Exmor RS CMOS sensor and an upgraded BIONZ X image processor that enables fast shooting performance, UHD 4K video recording, and an ISO 12800 sensitivity. It also has a 357 phase-detection hybrid autofocus system with 425 contrast-detection areas for quick and accurate focusing capabilities for shooting stills and capturing videos. The RX100 VII has a 3.0" 921.6k-dot LCD touchscreen and a pop-up 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. The touchscreen has tilting capabilities for when shooting at different angles and has Touch Shutter and Focus functions. With all the upgraded functions combined with a sleek yet portable build, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera redefines what a compact camera should be.

World’s fastest hybrid AF system

The fast, highly accurate autofocus can achieve a remarkable 0.02-sec. acquisition speed, the world's fastest, to capture fleeting moments with precision. A total of 357 focal-plane phase-detection AF points covering approx. 68% of the image area – work in conjunction with 425 contrast-detection AF points and High-density AF Tracking Technology to follow even erratically moving subjects reliably.

World’s fastest hybrid AF system

Single Burst Shooting captures 7 shots at up to 30/60/90 fps in JPEG/RAW

The new Single Burst Shooting function will capture the tiniest slices of daily life, such as the very instant a tennis ball hits the racket, and turn them into works of art. Take seven shots in rapid succession at selectable speeds of 90fps, 60fps or 30fps, all triggered by a single press of the shutter button. Even fast-moving subjects can be captured thanks to the Anti-distortion Shutter, in RAW as well as JPEG image formats.

AI-based Real-time Tracking for stills and movies, and Touch Tracking

Real-time Tracking uses subject-recognition algorithms (AI) that draw on color, pattern (brightness), subject distance (depth) and face/eye information to track subjects wherever they move. Maintaining a constant, steady focus on a moving subject helps capture every important moment of action as it happens, whether taking stills or movies. Tracking can also be initiated through Touch Tracking, for both stills and movies.

AI-based Real-time Tracking for stills and movies, and Touch Tracking

Real-time Eye AF for human (stills and movies), and for animal (stills only)

Real-time Eye AF detects subject's eyes and maintains focus as the subject moves, leaving you free to compose your shot. The subject's eyes are detected with half-press of the shutter, and it's possible to select either the left or right eye of the subject. It can be used in conjunction with Real-time Tracking, in which case the focus frame can seamlessly switch between the subject's face and eyes as the subject moves.

Real-time Eye AF for human (stills and movies), and for animal (stills only)

Microphone jack, vertical-position data recording, Super slow-motion up to 960fps

Though very compact, RX100 VII includes a standard 3.5mm microphone input jack enabling the use of high-end microphones for professional audio capture for movies and vlogs. The camera supports movie recording in vertical format with embedded metadata indicating the camera's orientation. This means that movie clips in this format that are transferred to smartphones can be played back and used as is, without needing to rotate them from horizontal format.

Microphone jack, vertical-position data recording, Super slow-motion up to 960fps

Active mode image stabilization in 4K video recording, and Movie Edit add-on compatible

RX100 VII now supports "Active" mode image stabilization for 4K movies, combining optical and electronic stabilization methods for compensation up to eight times more effective13 than the standard mode. Intelligent Active mode with Full HD recording provides smoother stabilization even for shooting while walking. The Movie Edit add-on mobile app helps achieve smoothness similar to using a gimbal.

Active mode image stabilization in 4K video recording, and Movie Edit add-on compatible

Retractable OLED w/ EVF benefits and optical viewfinder immediacy

The RX100 VII maintains the convenient pocket-sized design of the RX100 family and is equipped with a high-contrast 2.35 million dot XGA OLED Tru-Finde electronic viewfinder, ensuring true-to-life image preview and playback functionality. With a single push, the EVF conveniently pops-up and automatically extends the eye-piece. It features optics with ZEISS® T coating that greatly reduces reflections.

Four of Sony's original AA (advanced aspherical) elements help minimize spherical, coma and chromatic aberrations.
