Glad I bought this recorder. High quality recorder so small that you wouldn?t mind bringing it with you everywhere. Great for recording soundscape or that impromptu street performer. Great if you need to take voice notes.

I have bought this to record the audio session for my youtube channel. The plan is to 'bring' my listening room experience to my friends. The sound recording I can say is 80-100% accurate with the real room ambient that I've sit to hear my audio system. The menu is straightforward and easy to understand. Its tiny and mobile to bring anywhere.

As some reviewers have already said, the Sony pcm-a10 audio recorder is a highly capable device. While testing out the voice recording I detected no hiss whatsoever and the app is responsive although it doesn?t allow for files to be transferred to your phone, which is a shame since such an option would be a boon for media people. But the device is extraordinary overall. The quality of the build is stellar, the programming options give the user flexibility and unlike the Zoom and Tascam recorders, you won?t need to worry it this will fit in your pocket. My previous recorder was a Tascam DR-22wl and while it wasn?t bad, the menu was difficult to navigate. The Sony by contrast, is simple, but is powerful enough to allow for customization if you so chose. While the audio quality is probably not going to match that of its larger XLR cousin, it still sounds absolutely amazing. No wonder it?s on back order. It?s important to note that you can also change the positioning of the microphone capsules. Doing so will affect the character of your recordings. My Tascam recorder definitely couldn?t do that! One thing that isn?t that great about the pcm-a10 is that the included carrying case, while nice and padded doesn?t allow for operating the device while covered. The speakers aren?t loud or good but given the size of the device it?s a no brainer. The USB flip up connection, while nifty, might actually be a hindrance for those with desktops, who might find it awkward to connect a recorder solely relying on the strength of the USB plug to keep it connected. But when weighed against the pros, the cons seem minuscule in comparison.

This is the recorder to get when you’ve decided that while the microphones on your little $ Zoom recorder are very high-resolution, but the sound is very “brittle,” severely rolling off both high overtones and low end (ex. piano). Sony’s microphones are in an entirely different class, and both have a much better low-end, and will record well into dog-whistle range. The other important feature is the Bluetooth smartphone remote. You can’t check and adjust gain on a small all-in-one recorder while recording without either bing obtrusive or making audible key click noises - having a good wireless remote is an essential. Plus it has five seconds of pre-record, even in 96KHz 24-bit, and an easily rechargeable battery and USB connection. The downside: Sony’s hallmark is brilliant hardware, but indifferent software. The smartphone remote aside (I bet a subcontractor built it), the firmware controls in this device are just as poorly organized as they are in any other Sony product.

This a remarkable, discrete, lightweight recorder and it produces superb results. I use it for recording music - saxophone, guitars, full bands - and it is very capable in these areas. The wireless link to smart-phone is solid and performs well (unlike many competing products) and the tiny size means it can be located very specifically. Functions are simple to use, screen is clear, build feels solid. On the negative side, button-clicks whilst recording are very audible (but I don't find this to be an issue as, once levels are set, buttons are rarely used), I don't notice a significant difference between the various mic positions, and the menus can seem a little bit clunky. Bu overall, a great recorder and a worthy addition to your gear.
