Incredible as it seems Window 7 is not supported by this recorder. Since the recorder is discontinued they probably won't put up any 7 drivers. This is getting to be a theme with Sony--put something out then abandon it with zero support. They are just throwing orphans out there. How the mighty have fallen. The great Sony has really spiraled into the abyss.

This was the only one that I found that could do higher bit-rate and connect to sound card (input and output). Want to digitally record streaming content?.. I love this thing and will also use it for recording live sound. It costs a little more than the competitors but you can use optical cables to connect to your sound card. Also, the headphone output easily drives my Beyerdynamics DT990 and my Dennon 5000's. You won't be sorry you got this rig!

Love it, got it to record live in bars and to record ideas on the fly. The sound is very good, very easy to use, Find the sweet spot ,point it, set record level and push go. 4 megs is a lot of recording even at the highest level. Have had about a year and have used what I have recorded right out of the recorder in to a mix with little procesing many times. $500 is a bit steep but for what it is its a good price point. In over a year of use in bars and other rough places it ain't went wrong yet. Very happy with it.

The Sony PCM-D50 is not only A very well built Recorder it has the best pure sound in A hand held recorder
The Sony PCM-D50 is a 96 kHz/24-bit recorder fitted with two-position (x-Y or Wide) stereo microphones, 4 GB of internal flash memory and a Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo slot (for additional storage). The body of the D50 is constructed of lightweight metal (aluminum) and it's built rugged to withstand the demands of pro applications, plus it offers long battery life using conventional AA alkaline batteries.
The recorder includes a USB high-speed port for simple uploading/downloading its native .WAV format files to/from Windows PC or Macintosh computers. Other unique PCM-D50 features include digital pitch control, dual digital limiter (inherited from the PCM-D1), low-cut filter, Super Bit Mapping, A-B repeat and MP3 playback capability.
To complement the D50 recorder, new optional accessories include a remote commander, tripod stand and microphone windscreen. Additionally, the D50 offers compatible mounting and use with the recently introduced XLR-1 wide-bandwidth balanced XLR microphone adapter.
