Bought a Playbase to replace a 5.1 system. My wife was not happy with the multiple speaker setup. I thought the Playbase might be a good compromise. It looks great. Probably the best looking speaker I've ever had. The sound is really good too. It did not seem to create any sense of surround sound at all. It did fill the room with sound. Worked great for movies and music. The integrated "sub" was less than impressive. It doesn't really do what a sub does. I started to hear harmonic distortion on bass heavy tracks. The deal breaker was the massive difference between streaming apps. Prime Video was really loud! HBO was not loud at all. It was very annoying having to readjust for every app. Wasn't really impressed with the Speech Enhancement or Night Mode, either. The app is ok but could be more streamlined. Overall, it sounds great! ...the bells and whistles leave a bit to be desired for such a pricey speaker.

I am a bit of an addict when it comes to strong beautiful base; in my car, in my house it doesn't matter. I can adjust the bass from my phone to shake the house when my tenant isn't home, or to make it comfortable for TV watching without annoying other occupants.

in a small 9x12 room, it is MORE than I need (and I enjoy loud clear full sound). Paired with the sub and 2) oneSL. I have listened to some of the most expensive and accurate speakers on the planet, Sonos is impressive. tip: don't mess with pairing ONE as surrounds, AND using them for their Alexa capabilities, it gets tricky, just use oneSL (non-Alexa) version, and use an Alexa device outside of your surround system.

The integration with Spotify has to be better on the Sonos app! The two apps are not synchronized...

I use the Playbase in my office with the TV. The sound and usability are excellent. The energy saving feature that shuts off the unit after a period of time is annoying. Sonos should allow the user to disable this. I would also like to have the ability to fine tune the dialog enhancing feature depending on the volume I'm playing it at.

My lovely girlfriend got me the Sonos Playbase for Christmas 2019 and i was obsessed with it. Mind you i had a pretty decent Bose acoustimass 10 setup before and had cables running everywhere, the Sonos Playbase changed the game for me. Not only did it have a built in subwoofer but the 10 internal speakers within the system along with the insanely clear sound magic it does to theatrical surround sound, i mean it felt like sound was coming from behind my ears when watching certain TV shows and movies. Fast forward a couple of months later, i have added 2 Sonos ones plus the Sonos subwoofer for additional base for music and to be honest this is the best home theater system set up ever! Not only is Sonos system wireless but the sound quality and clarity even at high volumes is insane! Sonos is worth every single penny spent on it and i don't see myself investing in any other speaker set up for decades to come. I'm more likely going to purchase more Sonos ones in the future to add to my current setup. The goal is to have a speaker in every room of my house, that is if my gf permits :) AWESOME SOUND, great wireless set up.

I love it, I also have a pair of ones and a move, the only thing I wish that they could go louder, may be I haven't figure that part out but it maxes out with the phone volume and it's not enough

I am not sure I have anything bad to say. I have the playbar with a Sub and a pair of Play 1's for a surround sound theater. The musicality is very good, the video audio is clear and crisp and the surround sound has good definition. Easily control by a phone or tablet application.

I love the way it all pairs together. Girlfriend has odd sleeping hours so it nice to have different audio playing in different room. Sound quality is great for the price.

This is nothing other than the Sonos quality that you would expect! Packaging was great, set up was simple and noticed an immediate difference with voices when watching tv. At first I was not overly impressed with the amount of bass being delivered when listening to music, but then discovered the equalizer in the app! Full rich tones now fill my family room! #SonosForLife #ByeByeBose

I used the playbase as part of a Sonos surround system. Overall, I would say it was OK, but not up to par with other Sonos equipment. We subsequently mounted the TV on the wall and switched to the playbar. In the same room, with the same TV and the same setup, the sound of the sound bar is far superior to the sound of the playbase. I recommend the playbar, but not the playbase.

Love Sonos system, recycle program is deceptive. I recycled two products to get 30% off which they said never expires, waited for Black Friday sales and they only will apply code to original price, making the code worth only 10% since can buy without code for 20% off now. There was no disclaimer when they turned my devices into bricks, this is deceptive and I hope a class action attorney reads these reviews. Burying it in the fine print does not make it legit. Soooo Disappointed in Sonos

I bought the Beam, Sub, and two One-S' for a living room surround sound setup. Everything was super easy to setup right from the Sonos app. The dynamic sound check and adjusting is fantastic. The surround sound audio is superior to any others I've heard. Everything connected to my wi-fi in minutes and was up and running without issue. My only negative comment would be they should offer this package as a surround option so you don't have to piece the order together yourself.

Great for amplified tv and movie watching on all of those streaming services! Paired with two surround SL's the sound is accurate, crisp, clear, and the bass booms.

We used this to start a surround sound speaker system with our TV. We wanted to use our Apple TV for content, our TV for projection and the Sonos Playbar for sound. The problem was that our TV's optical audio did not pass out to the Playbase. We had to use a third party converter to downgrade the digital optical audio connection to our TV using the analog audio which did function. What this triggered was that we could not get Dolby Digital 5.1. This meant no analog or digital audio would pass through to Sonos Playbase. When we downgraded the Apple TV to regular stereo sound, which uses an HDMI connector, the sound would pass through but it was flat and not special. It was tantamount to using a regular cheap speaker instead of a Sonos. However, we could airplay songs from an iPhone to the Playbase with surround sound. So we now have flat TV audio and surround stereo for Spotify. We will be looking for ways to optimize the sound from the TV- too few TVs support Apple TV Dolby sound that can pass through Sonos.

I Purchased this speaker, with the Sub and the Play:1 about 2 years ago. After about a year the WiFi capability in the playbase went out. Now it only works via direct plugin to TV and not through app/phone. Very disappointing and makes it difficult to warrant building out the rest of the home sound system.

I love this speaker and Sonos after getting this. But not being able to rely on the TV remote to consistently control the volume sucks.

The sound from just the Playbase itself is very good. I intend to add other Sonos components in the future. Bass response could be slightly better, but still sounds good.

So I am old school Sonos from the start... After having to give up certain pieces do to well you know divorce. I had to replace them and went with playbase to start... after realizing the new technology within this great piece of equipment I was like oh wow I don't need this and it's all inside.... Blown away! Love my new playbase and going to end up replacing a few more speakers soon!

Best TV audio solution out there at a good price. I have mine with 2 "1"s for surround sound. I live in a semi detached so I turn down the volume after 9ish ... even at low volume the sound is fantastic. When you watch sports the applause comes from behind you and the action on the field / course is in front. Outstanding.

I bought a 2019 65" Sony OLED TV for the family room in the house we just purchased. Previously I've had a theatre receiver and surround sound speakers but the layout in this house and the fact that we'll only be using it part time led me to the decision to not invest in a sound system. The ratings for sound on the Sony TV I bought were actually very good. But what I found was it was difficult to hear dialogue in many TV shows and movies without turning the sound up and then turning it back down when music or sound effects got too loud. This cycle seemed endless. So I decided to buy a sound bar. I did online research and spoke to friends and employees in electronics stores. What I decided was that for my wants and applications, a soundbase would be the best choice. Truthfully I knew nothing about them before and relied on what I read and the word of others to make my purchase decision of the Sonos. This was an excellent decision. The Sonos soundbase is wonderful. The sound is excellent and cosmetically it really compliments the look of my TV which sits on it beautifully. It installed easily and with the app I can chose to enhance dialogue on shows and movies, And it really works. It meets all my needs and I know there are many more uses and features I haven't even explored. I couldn't be happier.

Buy the playbase!
By Matt
I initially purchased the Bose Soundtouch 300, thinking it was the best sounding product on the market due to brand name and past experience owning the Bose mini. After a painful and confusing process setting up the Bose, I tested the sound quality with the movie Wonder Woman. The bass and sound effects in the background sounded pretty nice, but the voices sounded like absolute ****, as if something was wrong with the unit itself. The only way I can describe the sound was hollow, flat, raspy...

Cool Idea and Great Sound
By Steve M.
I have both the Play Base and the Play Bar. I would have to say the Play Bar has better sounds, but the Play base serves it purpose if you need to place your TV on it. Still both sound great!
The all new PLAYBASE adds pulse-pounding, full-theater sound to all your movies, TV shows, sports and games–and it wirelessly streams your favorite music, too. Its slim, low profile design practically vanishes beneath your TV, yet it fills your entire viewing room with spectacular widescreen sound you just can’t miss.
PLAYBASE uses ten amplified internal drivers–six midrange, three tweeters, and one woofer–to replace the steady drip of your TV's built-in speakers with deep booms, crystal clear whispers, and huge waves of sound.
Conventional soundbars work best when wall-mounted directly below your TV. Problem is, most TVs aren’t on walls. They’re standing on credenzas and tabletops. PLAYBASE to the rescue. It’s elegant, low profile design practically disappears beneath your TV, yet it fills your entire viewing room with sound that’s flat out amazing
PLAYBASE makes movies, sports, TV, games, and music come alive…but just in one room. Add more Sonos speakers to your home and you can listen to what’s playing on your TV in any room. PLAYBASE is just the beginning of the ultimate home theater experience. Add a Sonos SUB for soul-shaking bass. Want full surround sound? Use a pair of PLAY:1, PLAY:3 or PLAY:5 speakers for rear channels.
Pair SUB with any Sonos speaker and you’ll hear parts of your music that you wouldn’t hear otherwise. That’s because SUB does all the heavy lifting required to deliver the low, low frequencies, leaving the speaker to focus on perfecting the mid and high-range frequencies. Adds dramatically deeper bass to any Sonos speaker (or CONNECT:AMP)
SUB works with any Sonos speaker or CONNECT:AMP.
Add bigger boom to your home theater by pairing with PLAYBAR or bring out the bass in your favorite tunes on your PLAY:1, PLAY:3, PLAY:5 or even your existing speakers hooked up to CONNECT:AMP.
The problem with moving all that air to create bass is it makes most subwoofers shake, rattle, and roll. Not SUB. We positioned the drivers on opposite sides, face to face, to cancel out the force of all that vibration. Deep, delicious bass is all you’ll hear.
Plug it in. The Sonos app does the rest, walking you through every step from connecting SUB to your WiFi to pairing it with the speaker in the room of your choice.
The setup of your room can have a big effect on the sound you hear. Trueplay measures your room and fine-tunes the sound to fit the space.
Bass is all about moving air. The more you move, the more bass you hear. SUB delivers amazing amounts of highly-detailed, dynamic bass by using a surprisingly strong pair of woofers to move air. We also designed SUB with an opening in the middle to move more air out of the enclosure. You won’t just hear the difference. You’ll feel it.
Software updates mean the product you buy today will be even better tomorrow.
