I just upgraded my Reader from the PRS-650 to the PRST1 and I could not happier. This Reader is Fantastic. Love the WiFi capability and the crispness of the print. You just need to get color capability built into the Reader. Oh, yes, and find a good place for the stylus. I'm just leaving it in the drawer or now.

After researching e-readers for 3 years I finally decided on a red sony. I purchased all of the accessories I would need so when my e-reader arrived I'd be ready to enjoy it. I purchased the sony red case with the light that is super light weight, bright, and functional. I purchased a screen protector also. I attempted to get the SNAP library e-card but once I realized the ability to create pdf documents and view them on the reader, I didn't even want the library card anymore. I discovered all my needs were met with pdf, and EPUB formats. I LOVE this e-reader because it is LIGHT, small, goes everywhere with me. I just pop it in my purse, and go be it the nail shop, my job, or home in the yard. When I took this thing to work after christmas break my e-reader was the envy of all e-readers there as christmas presents out of the NOOK and Kindle Fire because mine was sexy red and had a cool light. I kick it with die hard readers at work. Yeah baby, my Sony made everyone else go purchase a light. I'm officially in LOVE with reading all over agian as I was when I was a young child something that was ruined in highschool with all the forced reading. Now I read what I want, when I want, where I want. I haven't even meantioned the dictionary, WOW, I don't have to fumble around with my book and webster anymore I just touch the word and I can have reference to not only the English translation but multiple other languages too. OH, did I meantion the clock? The book mark? The store? What more could a reader want? It's reader heaven all wrapped up in red, any real woman of power's favorite color. People complaining in the reviews that it's too shiny, I have no idea what they are talking about, shiny is SEXY and pretty. IT LOOKS GREAT. The only way it can bother you is if you read looking at the rim and not looking at the page, and why you would be staring at the rim the whole time and not reading is beyond me. I can't explain why reviewers are hating on the beautiful shine on the sony e-reader. All I can say is WHATEVER! Oh and the cover that sony offers for this is so functional. It is plastic something you can clean and sanitize unlike my friend's cover who had a Nook, hers was cloth and it was already getting dirty. Cloth? Dirt? Not sexy. Some reviewer was complaining that the cover accessory seemed flimzy, uh no, light weight is GOOD, it's called functionality. Just because I have a cover on my e-reader doesn't mean I have to FEEL like there's a cover weighting down my e-reader. Excuse me but SONY NAILED it hands down when it comes to reading electronically in a portable life style. And so what the sony can't go a million years without recharging. You know why the sony needs to be recharged more than the kindle, that's because it's busy working for YOU doing what you need it to do. Hey you have to recharge sometime anyways right? Besides my brother's girlfriend has a Kindle and she told me the thing can't hold a charge worth... well you know the rest. If you don't know which e-reader to get and you are reading this take my advice and Get a Sony. At least Sony tries to make it right by you when their products don't work unlike with Kindle if your problem isn't on their "problem list" then your problem doesn't exist. Oh yeah I did my research for 3 years remember? GET A SONY!

After spending sometime researching ereaders, I decided on the Sony ereader, PRST1. The price during Christmas sale was great, free shipping was also a bonus. The product arrived promptly and within an hour or so, I had it up and running. I did have some difficulty understanding how to find the Data Transfer Mode, but I chalk that up to my computer/IT inexperience. That evening, I also purchased an ebook and again, easy task to download to my computer and then, to the ereader. I am impressed with this ereader as I can download quickly,it's WiFi capability and also, that I am not tied down to only downloading from the Reader Store. The screen is abit sensitive but I am getting used to it. I would recommend the Sony ereader to anyone looking for a simple, solid product. Time will tell about the reliability of this ereader and it's wear-ability. But I must say, so far, so good.

I have always told everyone how great my Sony products are, but now I can add the incredible customer service. I placed an order December 23rd and received it the morning of the 24th. I never expected to receive it in time for Christmas. Thank you so very much!

I have had the ereader for about a week. In fact, due to issues with my first PRS-T1 I purchased (see “cons” below) this review is based on my experience with two of these ereaders. Pros: • You can use either the touch screen or buttons to turn pages (sometimes you might be drinking a cup of coffee with one hand and holding the ereader with the other hand. In such instances it is nice to be able to merely push a button to turn pages). • You can easily connect your ereader directly to your local library to borrow books (i.e., you don’t need to use your computer). If you run out of books while on vacation…. you can simply borrow another (once you connect to Wi-Fi). One warning: there is often a very long wait list to borrow newer e-books from libraries. • Nice that it has Wi-Fi. • Fairly light. • Plays mp3. This means that I don’t have to bring a dedicated mp3 player on the plane or other places where using a large mp3 player (i.e., the ereader) suffices. • Can add extra storage. • The case is fantastic (though a bit pricey but still similar in price to the other ereader cases). Fits the ereader like a glove and does not add unnecessary weight or bulk. A way to secure the case closed would be nice. • Is compatible with many e-book formats. Cons: • I like to read in bed. As such, I purchased the case with a built in light. As the edging on the PRS-T1 is very shiny it causes an annoying reflective glare. Not a huge issue as you can tilt the reader / light to try and avoid the glare but, then again, a matte finish would be much nicer and would negate this issue. • The Sony Reader software is not very user-friendly. • Every time you flip a page the screen will blink black before showing the next page. This is the screen “refreshing”. Some other ereaders permit the ereader to load up to six pages at a time so that the “black blink” will only occur every 6 page turns. One advantage of the “black blink”, however, is that it avoids “ghost images”. • The books on the Sony store are generally more expensive than on other sites; however, because the PRS-T1 is compatible with many e-book formats, you can purchase the books from many other sites. • The stylus is quite annoying as there is nowhere to store it in the ereader. I figured that there’d be some easy way to store it in the Sony case… I was wrong. • Quite often when I use the buttons to flip pages the ereader flips 2 pages (and ‘no’ I am not pushing the button twice or holding down the button). • I have had a few instances when, for example, I’ll push the button to flip from page 450 to 451; however, the ereader will flip me to page 400. Huh?? No seriously, this has happened at least three times in the past week. Makes for interesting reading when you don’t initially notice. • My biggest complaint is that I have yet to go a single day without the touch screen becoming unresponsive. Specifically what occurs is that I touch the screen to turn the page and then the reader will start flipping pages without stopping (even though I am no longer touching the screen). I then have to push one of the buttons to get it to stop; however, the touch screen will now no longer work unless you reset the reader. VERY annoying. Imagine being on a plane and having to ask for a pin (need to stick it into the little reset hole) so that you can continue reading? As I said, this will occur daily. A quick internet search on “PRS-T1 freezing” will show that this is a fairly common issue. Summary: I have contacted Sony support 4 times to get assistance on the software glitches. The tech said that they are not aware of such problems. This worries me because a quick internet search shows that my observations are fairly common and that many other people state that they have voiced similar support calls to Sony. However, if Sony is not willing to admit there is a problem, they are not going to do anything to fix it. I wonder if they don’t want to admit to any such glitches this close to the Christmas rush. I really like many of the features of this reader; however, the software glitches are too significant. As such, I’ll be returning it to the store. I will monitor the Sony site to see if they ever fix these glitches. I figure that I’ll give them to the end of the year to address these glitches. If they do then I’ll buy another. If not, then I’ll buy a different brand.

I received the PRS-650 model early this year as a gift and was ecstatic. It was the right size, weight, more features than I expected and the perfect size to pull in and out of my handbag quickly for intermittent reading on the move - all elements which warrant high rating in design and reliability. Be wary what the term "download books wherever you are" actually means. I am on travel assignments outside of Canada the majority of the time and my Reader was supposed to be my window to access new releases and purchase books "on the go" hence relieving me of the weight of paper books. There is no advance notice anywhere that advises book purchases will not be possible when you are connected to an IP address outside of registered home country (my case Canada). I can not return it nor can I use it - what a waste of money hence the low value, performance and overall ratings. So despite my initial excitement, the gift is useless for buying the books I wanted when I wanted. My colleagues using Kindle download anywhere in the world with no trouble at all. Why can't Sony establish a similar "roaming ID" to those people who travel? Like with credit card companies, one can register travel plans to avoid restrictions on transactions when travelling.

I have had a Sony reader right from the first day they showed up. I have never picked up a printed book again and can't imagine what it would even be going back to a printed book. Over the years I have found some very unique books that are no longer copy protected that you can not buy at a regular e-store. I also have purchased many books on line and the Sony ebook store has lots to choose from as well as great deals on all the time. I couldn't imagine owning any other reader where you are tied to only what is available through their stores. I want to be able to read what I want and when I want. I finally broke down (still love my 505) and purchased the newest addition PRST1. Love the touch screen, love the dictionary function (now I don't miss anything) and love the wifi. It's so nice to download books without having to log onto your main PC and open the program yada yada yada. Just go to the book store (also has adobe books) and log on and presto you have all your books available to you. Not a thing really wrong with this one. A little bit of flickering when cahnging pages while on line but I am sure that will be a quick firmware upgrade and it really isn't a problem. Buy this ereader and be truly happy and satisfied!

Okay, here we go again. It wasn't long ago that I purchased my first Sony e-reader (PRS600) - although not my first. But it was definitely the best so far. Then Sony decided to upgrade it to the fantastic PRS650, bringing the pearl display that I could not get away from. I gave away my 600 and bought the new 650. I was so happy that I bought another one for my niece and she was so amazed. Now, although still enjoying the best reader so far - the 650 - I can hardly wait to get my hands on the new T1? Why would I do that if the one I have is still flawless? Well, I simply love new technology and the WIFI feature that is being added to this new version just blows my mind. Yes, there are many others out there with the same capability, but only Sony knows how quality and design are important to the gadget lovers. Thank you, Sony, again for a beautiful upgrade. I'm still a big fan. Cant wait!

The Sony PRS-T Wi-Fi Reader (Red) has a number of things going for it, not the least of which is its Wi-Fi connectivity. Supported browsers include IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Another great aspect of this feature is access to the public library for wireless lending. EPUB, PDF and Text formats are all supported - whether the books are transferred to the device wirelessly or not.
In contrast to its predecessor, the PRS-T1 is lighter and smaller, making it easier to carry wherever you go. The 6" screen also provides the option to use two fingers when navigating the touch screen. This feature allows you to utilize scroll, rotate, pinch open and close and secondary right click functions. Of course you can still choose to use the included stylus for navigation or hand writing.
Using the buttons at the bottom of the screen is an option as well. Additionally, a quick response virtual keyboard is at your disposal. When it comes to the actual reading, the PRS-T1 features what Sony calls a "natural experience" display that's easy on the eyes.
The E Ink Pearl E-Paper mimics real paper, which allows you to read as long as you wish. Having enough reading material to last that long isn't an issue either. The PRS-T1 allows for content purchasing and sharing from the Sony Reader Store, other tethered and wireless devices you own, the public library and online aggregators.
