I bought this DVD recorder/player and didn't often use it. Before long it started having loading problems, and would make strange sounds. Used very few times It has now totally stopped opening to load. After looking at reviews on Amazon this piece of equipment is not even worth the one star.

Tried recording some of the shows that come on FX or HBO and the player will not let you record them. Comes up as a copy right program and cannot record them. Useless device unless you are looking to record the news. DON'T BUY!!!!!!!

I recently bought 2 of these. I have a LOT of VHS tapes stored. I record a lot of TV that I watch when there's nothing on. I love not having to see commercial too. I have another SONY VCR/DVD combo that I bought about 2 years ago. I'm using this to transfer to DVD and I'm using the DVD recorders in 2 bedrooms. It did take me awhile to setup the 1st one since I'm so used to having the VCRs and moving those around from room to room. You have to use the input of both the TV and the DVD recorder to see a picture. Also, there's no black cable - only the red/white/yellow banana cables. Once I had both setup it was like, here we go! Otherwise it works just like a VCR. You can set the timer, or record for 30 mins. or an hour. I record about 4 hours while I'm at work and haven't had any problem. Storage of thin DVDs is much easier than VCR tapes!

Worked ok on first day. (Bad picture) Loud humming started in tv audio second day (caused by over heating) After cooled down humming went away until it overheated again 10 minutes later. Couldnt turn it off. Had to unplug it. Returned andd exchanged it. Second one was much worse then the first one.
