Brought this a couple of years ago for my husband. He hadn't used a Walkman before, but since he started jogging, I thought it was a great idea. HE LOVES IT. He jigs almost every day and loves it. Great simple design. Easy to use.

A morning commute to the city on the Staten Island Ferry, a relay track event, the sailboat race on Lake Michigan, musical variety during an aerobic exercise routine at the gym, sports talk on the morning jog, up-to-date weather forecasts for the fishing trip on the Finger Lakes, a handy car ride companion for a passenger on that long anticipated trip to the San Francisco Giants baseball game, and it's perfect for the poolside private listening session. The Sony Sports Walkman is a wonderful audio and time measurement accessory for all of these applications and many more as well. The Sony SRF-M85W FM/AM/Weather Band S2 Sports Walkman is a well-constructed, water-resistant, 3-band portable digital radio that is deftly suited for your sports, leisure, and work related travel endeavors. The Sony Walkman performs well on the morning bus ride to work, can easily handle an inclement weather event while walking on the boardwalk at South Beach, and it produces quality audio under adverse operating conditions. The Sony SRF-M85W Walkman features 5mW + 5mW high output audio power for seemingly perfect reception and reproduction of my favorite FM/AM radio stations. This portable offers excellent sensitivity and selectivity performance with respect to its analog FM/AM/WB reception capabilities. FM music stations are received with great fidelity, clarity, and impressive bass response. This unit's AM band reception easily pulls in my favorite news and sports talk radio programs with great voice clarity. The Weather Band station that I can receive with this unit is audible, but the volume control must be increased to a much higher level compared to the FM/AM bands, to achieve satisfactory results. The Sony Sports Walkman is comfortable to wear either on your arm with the supplied arm band or on your belt with the included clip. The Sony Walkman includes sports stereo headphones that are lightweight, provide the system's FM/WB antenna, and they offer high quality sound performance. This Sony Walkman can stand up to the rigors that fall within the entire range of your sporting activities. The Sony SRF-M85W Walkman is replete with features that will make any sports or portable audio enthusiast happy. Those high-performance portable audio, sports, and time measurement features include: a phase locked loop synthesized FM/AM/WB tuner for precision tuning, digital tuner for drift-free reception across the broadcast radio spectrum, FM stereo reception for concert quality music reproduction, FM frequency range: 87.5-108 MHz, AM frequency range: 530-1710 kHz, Weather Band Channels 1-7 reception, FM Band channel step tuning: 0.1 MHz, AM Band Channel step tuning: 10 kHz, WB channel step tuning: 1 channel, manual tuning, adjustable AM tuning interval from 10 kHz to 9 kHz for reception of radio stations when traveling abroad, Sony MDR-W014 S2 lightweight sports clip stereo headphones, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, 25 FM/AM/WB station presets (15 FM Band stereo presets, 5 AM Band presets, and 5 WB presets), preset tuning/time set controls, preset station deletion, FM/WB headphone cord antenna, built-in AM ferrite bar antenna, DX/Local sensitivity switch for optimized reception of both near and distant FM/WB stations, FM/AM/WB band selector button to enjoy a wide range of music, weather, news, traffic, and sports programming, Mega Bass on/off control, Mega Bass sound system for enhanced low frequency response, inverted digital LCD display, 5 multi-function LCD display modes (Radio Mode, Clock Mode, Stopwatch Mode, Countdown Timer Mode, and Pitch Timer Mode), hold function to prevent accidental operation, rotary thumbwheel-style analog volume control, separate power on/off button, enter button, display button clock set controls, preset/manual tuning selection mode button, digital clock, stopwatch, split timer, pitch timer, countdown timer, start/stop button, split/reset stopwatch controls, wraparound arm band, rubber belt, belt clip, one AAA cell battery operation, 1.5 V DC power operation rating, battery life indicator, battery compartment cover, DC battery terminals, bottom panel battery compartment, attractive white/gray two-tone color scheme with black, red, and orange control panel lettering, and it comes with operating instructions. This unit will operate at peak performance with the use of a high-performance Duracell Ultra or Energizer Max alkaline battery. The Sony Walkman's clock and stopwatch features will work even when this unit's radio function is powered off. The LCD displays the following information: Radio On, FM/AM station frequency, preset tuning mode indicator, preset station number, preset station deletion indicator, FM/AM band indicator, current time, AM/PM indicator, stopwatch display, countdown timer, pitch timer, remaining battery level indicator, hold "key" indicator, and Mega Bass indicator. All function buttons are disabled when the Sony Walkman's hold feature is activated. The hold lever is located on the top panel of the unit, and when the user slides the switch in the direction of the arrow symbol, the "hold key" indicator will appear in the LCD. The hold function can be canceled by sliding the hold lever in the reverse direction of the arrow symbol, and the hold icon indicator will be removed from the LCD. The Sony Walkman can't be operated on AC power. This unit offers a 3-stage battery life indicator (Full battery, Weak battery, and Depleted flashing battery icons). The LCD battery indicator resets to its full power battery default status when a new battery is inserted into the battery compartment. The battery should be removed from this unit when the Sony Walkman is placed into storage for an extended period of time. Please note that this unit's time function, pitch timer, countdown timer settings, and all FM/AM/WB preset stations in memory will be lost if the battery is removed from the battery compartment for longer than 30 seconds. Additionally, AM band preset stations are erased from memory when this unit's AM channel step tuning interval is changed from 10 kHz to 9 kHz or 9 kHz to 10 kHz. The Sony SRF-M85W Sports Walkman Radio does not feature a weather alert override function or an auto preset station scan tuning option. This unit comes with a 1 year parts and 90-day labor limited manufacturer warranty. The product dimensions are as follows: Height: 2-3/4", Width: 3-7/8", Depth: 1-1/2", and Weight: 3 ounces. With its Mega Bass output, outstanding FM/AM/WB reception, convenient digital tuning, advanced stopwatch feature set, lightweight design, long battery life, and ease of use, the Sony SRF-M85W Sports Walkman is the right choice for any portable audio need or sports-related time keeping activity. Good Luck. Enjoy.

I like listening to radio when I exercize. So, I was really happy to see this product come on the market. However, it has not lived up at all the high quality I have experienced in Sony products owned previously. THe design is poor. It is a bulky devise - sticking out a good 1.5 inches from your arm. With no protective case available, one has to be careful to keep it from hitting equipment or other objects as one works out. All the controls are on the outward or front facing surfaces, so these are also susceptible to getting hit as well. But the worst part came this week when the device started turning itself off for no reason at increasingly shorter intervals. When that interval got down to a few seconds I just gave up.

Doesn't receive FM stations very well at all. Must be the one AAA battery or the antenna design. Something is flawed in this device

This is a great AM radio. I think people forget how AM radios work. The antenna is internal, and requires constant positioning, to achieve optimal reception. Unless you live in a large city with multiple, high-strength AM stations nearby, you won't be able to strap this to your arm and always have adequate reception. What I do on my walks/jogs is simply hold it in my hand, and by turning the radio in one of three planes, am able to gain optimal reception. Also, there is a local/DX switch, which can affect your reception, either positively, or negatively. Overall, this is a very good, high quality radio. It is not an MP3 player, so don't expect that kind of audio quality. It works very well on FM. No reception problems with that.

The S2 model has very poor reception, and I will not buy another S2. It is useless. A radio with no reception? Sony, what were you thinking? I was able to locate a refurbished older model, so I am okay for now. Unless Sony corrects the reception problem, I will never purchase another Sony product.

This is a waste of your money. Their older models which had 2 AAA batteries had more power to capture a signal and produce a great audio tone. This is a one battery waste of money. I purchased as a gift and can't return since its more than 30 days. Beware and avoid this model.
