Great Speakers For the Price

You can't beat the value. I had to deal with TV speakers for so long because I couldn't afford floor speakers from POLK or others. These sound amazing. Don't even need a subwoofer with these guys. The range is great too. Can't wait to add the rest of sony's speakers to these. I am building a 7.2 surround sound system and it is nice to not have to drop $1000 all at once and get better speakers than an all in one option would provide.

Awesome

These speakers sound great. I have them hooked up to a Sony STR DE197. I also used 14 gauge monster wire with monster banana clips. I use this for radio, records, cd's, and tv/movies. They produce excellent stereo sound and I don't need a sub for deeper bass. I would recommend these to anyone who is looking for a budget friendly floor standing speaker.

Couldn't be happier!

I recently built my first home theater, and decided to go with Sony speakers. I paired the Floor Standing 5000's with a 5000 series Center Channel and a set of 1000 series Bookshelf speakers for the surrounds. The sound is really amazing! I was impressed with the range of frequencies and clarity these speakers produced. Lows, mids, highs......beautiful! When I added a sub, I couldn't believe how much more enjoyable the system became. I have everything hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V471 5.1 receiver. I am soon going to replace the Bookshelf surrounds with another pair of these Floor Standing 5000's.

Outstanding!

I've been replacing old speakers from the 80's. I bought the SS-B3000, the SS-F6000 and these. The 5000s are by far the best pair. Like the smaller bookshelf speakers, they use the 8 inch woofer. Work beautifully in a 13 x 26 foot room driven by my 100 watt/channel receiver. For a bigger room I would go for the 7000s. The smaller woofers in the 6000s are disappointing. I could not be more satisfied with the 5000s, especially at the price. Back in the 80's, I would drop a weeks' pay for an inferior speaker!

You won't be disappointed

I am using these as front speakers in my 5.1 set up. The sound is unbelievably warm! The bass is deep and impressively hard hitting. I am absolutely amazed by what these 8" drivers can do! There is truly no need for a sub when using these. The mids sound great as well, and never break up when played LOUD. The highs sound amazing. Reproduction of sound is spot on. Turn up the treble on the receiver and they will crank out some sharp piercing sound. I am using a Sony STR-DH510, and 16 gauge wire.

Surprised

For $160 these speakers really can't be beat. I am putting together (piece by piece) my own surround sound system for the first time. I only had the money for the two front channels to start with. I don't know a lot about speaker. I run these speakers off the Sony STR-DH710 receiver. I love all the sounds this thing makes. I makes me want to listen to all my different music, just to hear how good it is. My wife likes the Beatles and I like my 80's rock and roll. These speakers do both extremely well. I can guarantee you won't be upset with buying these speakers. (Unless you are an audiophile wanting the absolute best) With just these two speakers, I do not miss my old "home theater in a box" system at all. I have my cable running through these and watch all my favorite tv shows with them. Watching Blu-ray movies is pretty awesome as well.

Audiophile Worthy

I got these as a "last-one, display only" deal at Best Buy. They'd been demo'd in the Magnolia room for quite some time, and they sounded like they were broken-in, once I got them home. This pair is hooked-up to my Sony 6.1 channel receiver (STR-DE597), and replaces a set of well-used Onkyo SKF-200F speakers. The Onkyos were great, and came as a part of an HTiB surround system. I had them for 6 years, before they were damaged from my most-recent move. I'd been speaker-shopping for a few months, and saw these online, but wasn't ready to pay $160+. To my surprise, Best Buy had some in-store that they wanted to get rid of, and they made me an offer I could not refuse. WOWW! Great sound output! These work well in surround-sound setups, but they are extremely competent, on their own. They are bass hounds, but only when you crank 'em. I would strongly recommend upgrading your speaker wire---16 gauge works really well to maximize the potential these speakers have. I trust that with a maximum rating of 50kHz, you will be able to hear far more than you ever thought possible. Music sounds wonderful, especially when you play it loud. At lower volumes, you might not get full bass power, so a subwoofer added-in will fill things out, nicely. Movies (especially in blu-ray) and video games also sound great, and they work seamlessly in a 100-watt/channel surround setup. These are great tower speakers to buy, if you're on a budget. Best Buy is getting rid of these now, so you could score an even better deal on them, than I did. For the look, the sound, and the build quality, I'd be hard-pressed to find a better set of speakers, at this price point.

Amazing for the price...

I use these for my front and surround speakers. they sound great. Always wanted my home system to sound as good as the DJ's at the music bar, now it comes real close. I do suggest trashing the enclosed wire and using at least 18 gauge, though. Overall, I'm quite happy with them. Whether it be a movie, streamed music from the computer, mp3 player, cd's, or just the radio... I don't think my system's been off since I got them.

Not skeptical anymore!

Ive been dreaming of a true home theater system that i could build myself. I came from Studio Standard Fisher and Pioneer stereo equipment from the 80's all the way to my new 5.1 500watt Sony reciever. I saw these speakers in Best Buy siting next to a pair of Kilpsch 3 way speakers and thought they would never hold their own so i tried them in their sound room and i wasn't happy. (Stores put the settings on certian speakers better to sell them) But i brought them home...... And WOW! The bass shakes the upstairs and the highs are soooo crisp and loud you can hear it down the block! Absolutely Love these Speakers!

Best speakers for music

I bought these speakers to use with my Yamaha RX397 receiver. The bass and treble is very good (depend on your receiver as well). I can hear things that I never heard before. They are great for listening to music because of their clarity and response. They also good for movies. I highly recommend these speakers.

Amazing!!!

I finally completed my true home theater setup, I bought these speakers at Best Buy and added a 7.1 sony reciver the 8220, sony centr channel, sony bookshelf speakers (4). connecting took only about 15 mintues and powered it up, i had to play around with the sound to hear the right balanced in both treble and bass. I will recomend on the reciver unless other wise do not add alot of bass and treble atleast until you have had the speakers for a few months. that way they can get used to the sound you feed it, even then i wouldnt really recomend it because the soundtracks and sound effects on movies and music CD's create that automatically. sometimes adding to much creates annoying sound. Also be sure all speakers are connected with the same length of speaker cables because if having one speaker cable longe than the other it will lead to lagging sound. both blurays and dvds sound amazing, the separation is awesome, i hear the sounds alot better when traveling to each speakers its like special space of sounds for each speaker. I also added a sony sub 12' mica reinforced woofer and with the bass that each speaker packs man the sub just adds a killer expireance.

I was skeptical at first

I just replaced my 36 year old Smaller Advent speakers (which were re-coned in '90 in case you were wondering how they lasted this long) because I just bought a new receiver to replace my 23 year old Optimus receiver which developed a buzzy hum after all of these years. Now nothing was wrong with these Advents except the 4 ohm impedance was making the new receiver kinda hot (as they did with the Optimus) and they would click in the safety circuit if I tried to crank them on my new receiver. (Happened just once but that was enough). And besides, I wanted a change. Now, you may say these Advents are a hard act to follow by the Sonys, and that is true. I was experiencing some 'buyer’s remorse’ at first. But as I experimented with these speakers through my EQ, I was able to mimic a highly similar effect as with the Advents. In fact, if you play around with the frequencies, the sound from these speakers can be astonishing despite their smallish size (for floor speakers that is). So I would say these speakers are quite nice provided you have the tools to tweak them. The high end is not bad (something somewhat lacking in my Advents). But, in my opinion, ‘out of the box’ the Sonys are, at first listen, mediocre. If you have an EQ, or you can shape the output from these speakers, then I would say, “go for it”.

Good Speaker

I must say that I am overall very happy with these speakers. I have owned them for about a year and they have not given me any issues, and are much better then people give them credit for. While they do not match up to my dad's Bowers & Wilkins speakers they can hold there own against the likes of the Polk Monitor Series. I would recommed these speakers to anyone looking to get a great value and a quality speaker.
