Questions & Answers

Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Ralph A : I wanted Sontronics' Saturn mic, which is currently unavailable (unless I want to pay an extra $800.00 for what normally retailed for $999.00). Someone at Sontronics, at my request, recommended the Mercury model. I chose to go with the Vintage Edition.

About Sontronics Mercury Vintage Edition

Bring your audio recordings to life with the Mercury Vintage Edition Variable-Pattern Tube Microphone with Mullard Valve. This high-quality, professional-grade microphone is designed to deliver stunning sound across a variety of recording situations, from solo instruments and vocals to ensemble and orchestral work, overhead and room miking, and voiceovers.

Crafted by Sontronics' founder Trevor Coley and developed in collaboration with top artists, producers, and the expert engineers at Abbey Road Studios, this microphone is hand-assembled at our UK Sontronics headquarters. The Mercury Vintage Edition stands out from the crowd, offering a level of quality and precision that exceeds even our multi-award-winning ARIA.

This microphone employs the highest-grade components, most of which have less than 1% tolerance, a rarity in microphones at any price point. The standard version features a hand-selected and tested European-made ECC81/12AT7 vacuum tube, ensuring impeccable results for any application.

The Limited Vintage Edition of the Mercury microphone takes things a notch higher. We've sourced rare NOS Mullard tubes and fitted them into the Mercury body, creating a microphone that's truly extra special. Expect a smooth, rich sound with scintillating detail, all assembled with meticulous care and fully tested in the UK.

The Mercury Vintage Edition offers an infinite choice of polar patterns, from omnidirectional to figure-of-eight and everything in between, controlled via the sweepable control knob on the front of the power supply. It also features pad (0, -10dB) and low-cut filter (linear, 75Hz) controls, and a professional power supply with a medical-grade interference filter.

With incredibly low self-noise for a valve microphone (less than 12dB, A-weighted), the Mercury Vintage Edition is a reliable, durable, and innovative choice for any recording studio serious about achieving the best quality results. Experience the versatility and superior performance of the Mercury Vintage Edition Variable-Pattern Tube Microphone with Mullard Valve.
