Sony STR-DH540 5.2 Channel 4K A/V Receiver

I bought my receiver from sony outlet shop as a set with speakers and woofer for half price.it was brand new and is original packaging with standard warranty.had few home cinema systems before but nothing play as good as this.very clear sound with so many surround options to choose.the Best i think of it is full bravia sync which i can controll all my stuff with tv remote.4hdmi inputs keep cables in one place and thanx to pass through audio no need for optical cables anymore so that is less cables again. I am extremelly happy with this product. Would recommend to anyone.one thing is... My wife do not like the Look of it. But i love it.

My wife picked me up the STR-DH540 as a replacement for a Pioneer AV Reciever that just wasnt cutting it sound wise. From the moment I hooked the DH540 up the difference in sound was mind blowing. Set up took only a few minutes and I was ready to go. Paired up with my Sony kdl-55w900a and my Sony bdp-s6200 Blu ray player a movie night is NOW a true movie night. Just watching regular HD programming on cable has been simply amazing. I hear sounds and music in a whole new light with the DH540. Sony once again has done it with yet another great product at an affordable price.Thank you Sony!

It blended perfectly with my Sony LED. Has a bunch of great connection options + the possibility to pass through 3D signal (from a BlueRay player for example). One great feature is the auto sound calibration mic which sets everything up depending on your speakers positions. Some manual adjustment had to be done on the active subwoofer but that may depend on your speakers manufacturer. Pretty simple device and quite easy to set up. For a beginner like me everything was simple and intuitive.

I have had many problems with this unit. It has been sent to Lorado Tx when it can back it was working . I put in a DVD last night an d it didn't work Called Sony and she told me to change HDMI cable and it worked . This morning it .didn't wor The unit is flawed

Had this product for 8 months and love it, in 5.1 the volume level is half what it used to be for stereo sound which still feels loud until you leave the room then find you can't hear the TV. As an entry level and my first separate AV amp I love it. Also an absolute bargain

Good receiver, plent of power for my application. Love the 2nd subwoofer addition. 4 stars because the auto speaker setup wouldnt word for me, microphone couldnt locate front speakers so i had to adjust sound manually. Ipod screen is plain text, kinda bland and no wifi. But i think i only paid $175 for it, so i cant ask for all the bells and whistles. Overall good for the money.

Purchased this receiver as a spare while my main was being repaired. It didnt have features I expected it to and performance was not good. Returned it the same day.

Not all the features I would like, but the price was right. As fast as the technolgy changes, it is really not practical to get the biggest bundle each time, because , like I say , technology seems to be changing every six months.

I really expect a certain level of quality in all aspects of a Sony product based on my past purchases. The installation manual is not written in a user friendly manner. It took two days of deciphering and two online chats with Tech Support to get my TV working with this Receiver (and I am pretty expert in setting up electronics of all types). Highly disappointed that there is no equalizer (just Treble and Bass - at least add a mid-range Sony) and no ability to set delay time for rear surround speakers. I have 20 year old surround amp that has a greater degree of audio control than this Sony does. Knowing how to set the various options is a pain. Sound quality is good and clean through my speaker system (Yamaha PA's in front and Polk Monitors in rear). Also, there is no troubleshooting guide available which addressed the set-up questions I had. While this is a basic unit, I really expected more from Sony. I have to rethink if I will consider Sony products in the future given this experience.

Finally broke down and upgraded our receiver from an older Sony model that didn't have HDMI pass through. Previously we had to do all of the input switching on the TV, with this receiver it can all be done from it. Setting it up was as easy as plugging in all of the devices via HDMI and noting what went where. Having 3D pass through is also a plus with the PS3 and the PS4 since both are 3D enabled. Great system that can fit a budget.

This receiver has great surround sound and is powerful. I like the input selector knob and its digital capabilities. It was fairly simple to hook up and get going. There are some things I don't like about it, though. First, it takes a few seconds to power up. My old receiver powered up right away. Second, I don't like having no external bass/treble adjustments. You have to hook the unit to your TV and adjust them on screen using the remote. My old receiver had all the equalizer controls on the unit. Other than these two cons, I am satisfied with it.

I have had a few SONY receivers in my day. This one is perfect. It is easy to understand and there are no mystery settings. It is nice to be able to turn off all processing and listen to music "direct" from the source. I can't hear ANY noise or distortion. Thank you SONY.

This is one of the only "low-end" receivers out there that doesn't use those push-style speaker connections for all the speaker terminals! It has strong audio output, but definitely needs some fine tuning... Out of the box, the sub-woofer pre-out is somewhat muddy, need to mess with the filter settings to fix this (I like how there are two sub channels though). Don't use the auto-calibration microphone... it only samples the room from one position with a low quality mic and unless you have a super-treated room, the chances of it calibrating itself properly are low! Overall it's a good future-proof buy for those looking to not spend $500+ on an A/V receiver. Would reccomend.
