NO IT IS NOT A GROUND LOOP. The buzzing sound is coming directly from the receiver, not the speakers. It works fine usually for about 15 minutes. Once the receiver has a change to "warm up", it starts humming progressively louder and louder to a point where it competes with the actual programing content. I have had good sony products in the past, but am not happy about this one!

I have received mySTR-DN 1000 nearly 3 weeks ago.... Happy with its performance, but some easy configurations are missing....Like you cannot really adjust the bass or treble unless the unit is hooked up to a TV...In fact if you need to do any type of adjustments the unit needs to be connected to a TV or monitor..... Once it is connected to a TV , then you'll need to configure the TV output so you'll see the onsite guide....It has no USB connection which for some people is major con, not to me.... Customer service has not much knowledge about the product, in fact, when I was asking about how to connect my Sony mp3 player, I was told only certain models of I pod's are ok to connect, which I proofed the info was completely wrong because I did connect the Sony mp3 player, anyone can connect any brand as easily!

After reading several reviews on receivers under $500 - chose to go with the STR-DN1000 to replace an aging JVC receiver that has seen its day. I have 3 devices to run HDMI to the receiver - Cable HD box, Bluray player and an X360. (We have a Wii too but have that connected directly to the LCD TV.) The picture and sound quality are both above par with the lower priced receivers in the market. I decided to overlook some of the obvious cons - the Wii looks terrible upscaled. (Hence, it being directly connected to the TV.) Also, not a big fan of the speaker wire connection (all the speaker wire is installed at an angle - right around 2 o'clock. The speaker wire connectors feel flimsy. Just a couple minor gripes - but the good definitely outweighs the bad. If you're in the market for a 7.1 at this price point - this is a good way to go. This receiver looks very sleek in our entertainment center.

I was warned and didn't listen. I assumed, that if advertising 110 wpc x 7, that it could deliver. It cannot and now I am stuck with it. Do yourself a favor if you like quality speakers like Polk Audio, but must have a Sony to match your other equipment and drop down the change for an ES model. I wish I had. The stereo performs its functions ok, but it certainly does not deliver 110 wpc to my 7 speakers like the ad claims. I even tried to call to make sure the output would be good enough and got the run around. That alone should have told me I needed to jump up to the ES level of receivers to push quality speakers. That said, it sounds alright, but should be better.

I just purchase SONY STR-DN1000 to replace my Onkyo TX-SR504. From experience Onkyo runs very warm, don't have any complains about SONY STR-DN1000 running warm. The new reciever sounds much brighter and makes my VELODYNE DPS 10" SUB hit much more accurate and tighter than my old ONKYO. I would strongly recommend SONY STR-DN1000 great receiver. Audio in DOLBY DIGITAL HD and DTS HD MASTER AUDIO sound amazing coming from the DN1000. I read on CNET report "http://shopper.cnet.com/av-receivers/sony-str-dn1000/4014-6466_9-33539697.html" that SONY STR-DN1000 had greater dynamic life than DENON AVR 1910.

Updated my receiver to a STR-DN1000 to get 7/5.1 support. When the receiver is working it works great. Although it just randomly keeps powering off for no reason. I have read similar reports since my purchase on the web.

I bought this STR-DN 1000 to Bridge my PS3 and Directv DVR-HD to My 52" Z 240 Hz Bravia LCD. It is perfect. If you want to see and hear the best, dont hesitate. Dont worry about upscaling to 1080p. My old DVD's look fine and BLU-RAY and PS3 games are flawless. Make sure and buy the best hdmi cable possible with at least 15.8 gbps and 240Hz capable. (expensive but trust me there is a difference) The GUI does look like an old atari game but once your set up you dont need to worry about it. All The Sony products Ive bought in the past have lasted far longer than the technology at the time and Im sure no different with this one.

I got this receiver for 260 bucks at Frys electronics new. As an audiophile on a budget, I was skeptical about the quality, however I had researched the device for quite some time. Having setup the reciver with a new 7.1 Onkyo set, and some high quality monster cable speaker wires, I plugged in my xbox 360 and let er rip, I was astounded at the audio quality, not to mention the absolute lack of degredation of visual quality over HDMI. Im using HDMI 1.4 cables which the receiver apparently works well with . I recently bought a PS3 and used it to test some blu-ray discs. THE 7.1 AUDIO WAS ABOSLUTELY STUNNING. However, there are some complaints. The GUI menu, which I prefer over the receiver screen, blocks the image of you input COMPLETELY, it does not overlay it. The controls on the device are lackluster. The audio effect choices (cstex) are not great also. Ultimately, this device is cheap yet outstanding. It has more than enough ports, and it has some great features (multi stereo for example takes a stereo input and outputs the left channel to all your 7.1 left speakers. BUY BUY BUY!!@#

Overall this is a great AV set. Has a lot of options for connections. The really nice thing is that anything plugged into it (Video) will output through HDMI. So no need to keep changing the channel on your TV. The only thing i don't like about this AV unit is the lack of audio inputs (Red/White) for devices like CD and SA-CD players, or portable devices. If you can look past that, its an AWESOME Sony product.
