Review Summary

Device cannot handle full volume. There are distortions. Should give 5 if the device does not struggle at full volume. Can play it around 80 or 90 percent volume which is not loud enough if the space is big. ULT option is great depending on the song as you will loss highs which is understandable because of the trade off for better base. Need to frequently press ULT button.

Wasn't a hard choice between this and the jbl competition in their price range. Sure the jbl was loud but the sony ultfield 7 was not only loud, sound was clearer and cleaner too. Listening to rock songs on the ultfield 7 is mindblowing. But on hiphop & r&b, jbl still takes the cake. Doesn't mean the ult field 7 was a slouch though. It can still hold it's own.

I bought the speaker to replace my XB40 which was not working well due to battery not charging. The service person from Sony store recommended ULT Field 7, no regret it is a solid great wireless speaker with big sound and long lasting battery. Bass is very good.

Best purchase so far this year! Lots of people told me JBL Boombox is the go-to portable party speaker, but once I listened to ULT-7, decision was easier. Love the sound variations offered, especially the custom EQ! Used it for my daughter's birthday party, and it was smooth!

I have had the ULT 7 for several weeks now and to be honest I think it is a superb portable speaker . I literally take it every where with me it sounds so amazing, from the deep low frequencies right up to the high end is very crisp and clear and it has a more than ample volume level, much more so than what I would expect from something of this size. I love the ULT power bass, I have it set on no. 2 most of the time as it really kicks the bass out and you don't loose the clarity of the music it's a bop. I am gonna say I'm not a fan of and don't use setting 1 as it does sound extremely punchy, if you need to reduce the bass just turn the ULT button off. It's replaced the stereo I was using in my workshop at work, and I do have to turn off the ULT power bass and illumination effects while there as I don't want customers to think they've come to a nightclub :) . Then at the end of the day, it gets put back on ULT 2 with the lights flashing and we go home. Generally I connect via Bluetooth, but in the back cover of the speaker it has a usb port for charging and usb media playback which is handy, it has a 3.5mm jack which I utilise when I'm on my home computer and it also has a guitar/mic input. The battery lasts an extremely long time and it charges up very quickly so I do use the battery care system which charges it up to 90% to help give the battery a longer overall lifespan, I would like to get many years out of this beast. It looks great and it has a very tough and rugged feel about it, I don't feel it would be easily broken in normal day to day use and I have definitely been putting that to the test. I do wish that it came with a shoulder carrying strap or something as even though its not super heavy I do think it would just make it easier to carry when you have other stuff to carry.

There is only one way to describe the ULT Field 7, it is amazing. There are however two aspects to this review, sound quality, and construction. When you first unpack the Field 7 from its box, you are immediately aware that it is a quality product. It feels solid, well made, and almost indestructible. The design and aesthetics will I'm sure be recognised and admired by all who see it. It is quite likely to become a focal point in conversation. You would never be nervous about taking it on a camping holiday or using it for barbeques or picnics. The only caution I would recommend then is to avoid over zealous use of the volume control you may well upset some people nearby. Having said that at high volumes the quality of the music is retained and there is no distortion. Bluetooth connection is faultless and the battery life is excellent there is no need to worry that you will suddenly be left with no entertainment. The sound quality is wonderful, I would however check your relationship with your neighbours before you get too adventurous with the volume control it is capable of some very serious sound levels. The icing on the cake is; If you have an electric guitar this is a real blessing and I can envision many instances where the ability to use a microphone and the unit as an amplifier would add significantly to the practical value of this piece of equipment. It is genuinely a quality product which I would recommend to anyone needing a really versatile and well developed home entertainment system.

I love this ULT Field 7. It is the perfect speaker for parties or BBQs. Its at home in or outdoors and is packed full of features. Pairing is easy via the bluetooth. I had it blasting within a few seconds out of the box. This is a premium product and reflected in the build quality and materials used. Its substantial and feels robust. I have come to expect these levels from Sony and this speaker doesnt disappoint. The sound is big, but not at the expense of quality. Its a smooth sounding speaker with a nice balance between treble, mid and bass. There are a couple of sound settings already built in..ULT1 and ULT2...the former delivers deeper bass, the latter gives a sense of more power. Its certainly noticeable on certain bass heavy tracks..a couple of Tom and Jerry tracks, Dancer and Scooby's Dreaming give it a great workout. Battery life seems decent and you can also run off the mains if you need. There is an audio in socket to connect other sources. A USB socket for a USB drive so you can play files straight into the speaker. This can be controlled via the Sony Music Centre app..You can also charge other devices from this USB...if your phone is running low you can give it a quick top up from the speaker. This will impact the battery life but its a handy little feature. There is also an input for a mic/guitar. Perfect for singalong. I tested the speaker with my bass guitar and its quite impressive. Perfect for a little practice amp. It can be played standing on its end if you are struggling with space. So its a great party speaker with a few little tricks up its sleeve. Sony delivering again.

Had this speaker for just over 2 weeks now, I've used it mainly indoors in various rooms whilst doing house work, and have taken it in the garden once whilst I was mowing the grass. This speaker is very loud, so loud that it tends to sound quite harsh when listening indoors at high volumes, but as long as you don't crank the volume up too much, it has a nice detailed sound with a good bass extension. The thump of a kick drum can be felt even at low volumes, and not having it particularly loud in the garden, can still be heard through walls in the house. Sounds great vertically, or horizontally, although I found that vertically tends to suit indoor use better, and horizontally outdoors, although it does sound great outdoors no matter how it's placed. This speaker seems to be better suited for outdoor use, which is great as I believe this is what Sony had in mind when designing. It feels very robust, easy to pick up and move to another location, but is quite a lump. If you were thinking of taking it on holiday, this would probably be your one hand luggage space used up, and would take up nearly half of a large suitcase. Battery life is very good, I have used it on, and off for a few hours a time, and have still only charged it once when it first arrived. Haven't seen it drop below 80% battery yet. I hooked this up to a DJ controller using the Stereo mini jack input on the back, which you have to open the flap on the back for, which does make it unsuitable for use near water, or when raining. There is a noticeable lag when using it in this way, but not so much that it can't be used at all, you just have to mix using headphones and can't use the speaker as a monitor. There is also a guitar input on the back as well, which unfortunately I wasn't able to test, but glad to see the connectivity is there. When using this In the garden whilst mowing the grass I was impressed that I could still hear the music when using my noisy strimmer, and sprayed it with the hose when watering the plants to test the waterproofing (without the flap open), and it didn't skip a beat. It was quite fun to watch the water moving up and down with the bass whilst having it placed vertically, so wouldn't see any issues with using this on a beach, around a pool or in the rain. Would recommend downloading the Music Centre App, as this will allow you to control the various EQ settings, which i have found useful when switching to different environments, a bathroom for example, I felt needed manual EQ adjustment rather than the presets, but I think most will be completely happy with the ULT2 preset which gives a loud detailed sound. The lighting is OK, but doesn't appear to be very bright, even in dark environments. This can be adjusted using Fiestable app, but I didn't notice much difference when adjusting, apart from the frequency of how the lights react to the audio. There are a few other gimmicks within this app, like DJ effects, which apart from a little bit of fun couldn't see any real practical use for. There is also Karaoke mode within the Fiestable app for if you want to have a bit of a singalong with your friends. All round I think it is a really good bluetooth speaker, sounds well in most scenarios, and is very loud for overcoming noisy environments, the connectivity is probably the best I've seen in this class of speaker (USB A, Stereo mini jack, Guitar/MIC input), and is extremely robust and waterproof. Can also be linked with other speakers which if you had two of these linked up, you'd easily be able to have a great outdoor party with. Would highly recommend, but maybe not for DJing, as i believe there are better options with less lag out there for this.

The Ult Field7 truly is the ultimate party speaker! I love the sound quality, even at low volumes the sound is clear and the bass is strong. The ULT button is great and gives me the bass I want, be it less, more or Attack Bass for even more bass! I'm a bassist and hate when speakers can't produce the low end, the ult field7 not only delivers, it doesn't muddy the sound or overcompensate, and there's a 7-band equaliser to play with the sound. It's easy to carry with comfortable handles and not too heavy either. It's waterproof, dustproof and rustproof so taking it out in the English summertime is no problem! It's great at home, garden, field or by the pool. I've barely had to charge it and found it's outlasted the device I'm streaming from! The party connect is great to get everyone listening involved without the need to pass my phone around. The jack input for guitar or microphone is so much fun! Along with the led lights I can take the party with me.

This speaker is amazing. It is on the large size, measuring approximately 512 by 244 by 222mm (WHD) and weighs a hefty 6.3kg. But this is not a problem as it will stand on its end with no noticeable change in sound. The setup was straight forward and connected to my iPhone 14 with no problem. The sound quality is truly amazing with deep booming bass, like nothing I've heard from other speakers I've tried before. The volume is amazing, I doubt this speaker will be used at full volume ever without upsetting the neighbours. There are 2 bass modes, ULT 1 which emphasizes the deep bass sound and ULT2 which further emphasizes the sense of power even more. There is also a manual graphic equalizer within the Sony music app where you can set the sound to your personal preference. Other Sony speakers can be paired through the Sony app in what they call "Party Mode". This is great for an outdoor party when you also want to play music outside and also hear the music while indoors preparing food or drink. There are lights at both ends of the speaker, they are rather discreet, look quite nice, flash to the beat of the music, although are not particularly bright, more subtle than in your face. They can be turned off if desired. The panel at the back offers you an audio in and mic/guitar port so if this is more your style or need this product still has you covered. A 3.5mm audio in jack and a charge output in case you need an emergency recharge of your phone etc. The charging port is a figure of 8 cable. The speaker is dust proof and waterproof, making it suitable for outdoor use. From a full charge the speaker achieved 18 hours of playback at approximately 60% of volume, and with ULT 2 and the lights switched on. Charging back to 100% took about 5 hours, but 10 minutes of charging gave another hour and half of playback at the same volume level. In summary, the Sony Field7 ULT is a powerful high-quality speaker that ticks all the boxes. My only criticism would be the Sony Music app looks very outdated and can be a bit clunky.

This is a very loud, and very bassy portable speaker. For its size, it's surprisingly light and easy to carry around. I carry it around the house, from room to room and the handle is highly functional. The sound easily fills an open medium/large kitchen/living area. I have used it also connected to my laptop for superior sound watching shows/videos. I have also used it in the shower but it verges in the big side for that, tho the ipx67 rating is beneficial. I mainly listen to electronic music, particularly techno and hardcore. The speaker sounds very good at low and high volumes with electronic music. The bass can be physically felt which is what you're looking for listening to techno. With higher volumes listening to vocal/pop/rock music, the sound is a bit too bright and the volume has to be turned down. 40% volume easily fills a medium sized room. The bass at low volumes is surprisingly clean and felt clearly, allowing for enjoyment listening to electronic music at such a volume owing to the ULT mode on the speaker. If not listening to bass heavy music turning this ULT button off helps. Lights are decent on the ends of the speaker. Not really necessary but quite cool. They are more functional/visible in low light environments. Battery life is good. Last for about a week for me between charges, and charges quickly with the provided power cord.

With the many speakers over the years I've used, there always seems to be "something" lacking, whether it's features, connection strength, battery life or most important... Sound quality. For those that have tried "splash and water resistant" speakers in the past will know, there is always and I mean always a sacrifice on the clarity of the music because of the various membranes used to resist water. This is much, much different. Set up is a breeze, with the connection using the music centre app taking a matter of seconds before you're immediately ready to play. And I mean ready to play, as a default the speaker loads up in ULT 2 mode which sounds amazing, from there you can make it that little bit nicer by choosing LDAC connection and choosing the connection prioritises audio quality, that's it, it's done. Really though, the features of this speaker are perfect, no need for WiFi connection to smart features, just full off settings and software that are aimed purely at the sound. The sound field optimisation listens and adapts the sound to the environment meaning no dead spots in the audio listening field, the ULT presets both work magnificent at maximising the sound coming out of the speakers with deep punchy bass and crisp highs with no distortion, the rear panel has hookups for not only karaoke mic, but you can use it as a guitar amp too. This speaker is so, so capable and with the design and development being obviously aimed towards pure sound rather than added features that just ramp prices up, it's an absolute winner.

This is a serious speaker. I already have 2 of the Sony SRS speakers, and they are understandably blown away by this "big beast". Packaging is super secure, Sony are masters of using fully recyclable material but I'm guessing due to the size and weight (box says 8 kilos) it is safely secured in a rigid box with polystyrene. Power and connection cables are included, as are instructions which I've not felt the need to use yet. The speaker can be stood on end or on its slightly flattened base. The design has integrated carry handles and is easy to move around. It's no shrinking violet, you will notice it! It looks good and has simple button controls but I did notice that some design is visible through the fabric outer of speaker grills or some design which is striking. I have tried to capture it in a photo but it doesn't show it clearly. Set up is quick and easy with the speaker seeking paring on initial power up. So the sound?. It's loud, room and even house fillingly loud. Neighbours beware! However, the sound stage has decent separation and balance. Then press the ULT button?. Press once for enhanced bass, press again for the full "custom" effect. I'd suggest this is full party mode, it's boot-shakingly deep bass. To add to the impact, the speaker has lights at either end plus the ULT button on top has lighting effects, which are switchable via the app. In a previous life I ran a variety of fitness classes, and this would be absolutely perfect for any instructors. Behind a very well engineered flap at the back are various inputs and charging ports so plugging in a radio mic would be easy (I've not tried this having hung mine up), or karaoke. The Sony app makes it possible to add multiple speakers in a party mode. It's maybe not as intuitive as it could be but once linked its robust and means if this single speaker doesn't fill your house then a couple of additions will easily achieve it. Oh and it's water and dust proof (IP67). If you entertain regularly or enjoy volume with quality sound and even some lighting effects for regular partying indoors or outdoors, or have a guitar or are a class instructor then this will tick every box.

Where do i begin with the ULT field 7. Simply put it's dressed for sunday service, but ready to rave at the after party. There is nothing complex about this device from the opening of the device right through to the settings. Box contents will include; the speaker itself, a 3pin power lead, and a 2 pin power lead. Setting the device up- It's almost as easy as turning it on with an extra step of downloading the Sony Music centre app. If you already have it just make sure to update the software. From there you will be given the choice to stream your music straight through the music centre app with your favourite music streaming service. I use spotify myself but you also have the choice of Amazon music and youtube music to play nativly through the app otherwise bluetooth is fine, i dont belive it changes any quality in audio in doing so. The app allows you to tune your speaker to the way you like it, i didn't want to mess with it too much so i swap between the two presets. The first one which is defaulted offers better range and saves a little on power. The second preset uses more power but gives audio a deeper and louder sound. The app also allows you to change how the lights operate on the speaker which is a neat addition. They ain't very bright but do compliment the visual effect the speakers bouncing and is addicting to watch. Now what you're really putting your money into is the ULT bass boost, and it's a titan. Turning it on is as simple as pushing the ULT located with the control panel on the device. I found the ULT feature more effective with hip hop, and rock but of course it's used through out any song you play. When showing off the speaker to friends or family i always demo Flute loop by Beastie Boys, as it's a banger and has a range of all different sound that doesn't get lost in itself. With this new feature i find it hard to turn off my music, it's an addiction and i'm here for the ride. I havn't made the most out of the functionality of the device, as you can plug in a mic or treat it as a guitar amp, don't get me wrong though i think this is extremely cool to have and still appreciate. Although the speaker is portable i havn't seen any of need to take it out of my home so i use it as a house speaker. I have taken it into work a few times and it's still light enough to transport, weighing just over 6kg. Overall the Ult field 7 will make a great addition to anyones home that wants a great music system with a push of a button. I am stunned and spoiled with how compact the design is and what it has to offer. If anyone before reading this is contemplating their decision i hope by now your mind is made up and enjoying your time with the ULT FIELD 7.

When this speaker arrived I was surprised by how large it was so i had a feeling the sound was going to be great and I was not disappointed. To my surprise also it isn't as heavy as I thought it was going to be and very portable with the large hand grip points compared to my other Sony speaker the GRK-XB5. The ULT Field 7 is very playable in the horizontal position as it is in the vertical position and just keeps giving great sound even on the move or changing positions. In the box you received the speaker along with Quick set up instructions (main pdf stuff you need to scan the Q code) and charging mains cable. I found charging while turned off the quickest way to charge the speaker , from 20% to fully charged took just over and hour. After charging connecting via Bluetooth either using the Sony Music app on my phone or connecting to Alexa was a sinch (i advise one to turn down the volume on your phone when connecting ) The first thing you'll notice is the quality of the sound coming from the speaker and wondering what speakers are creating that sound with which I had to look at the specs to find four speakers two Tweeters and two Subwoofers but boy do them pump out some fantastic deep sounds and loud so loud I think my T shirt was jumping around to the beat. The speaker also has sound light control for added enjoyment that dances to the music very effective on a dark night. There are a few controls on the top of the speaker Power/Bluetooth/pause play/volume down and volume up. There are a few more controls in the enclosed and water resistant area behind the flap on the rear of the speaker you'll find the plug in mains cable/light button/Battery button/Key Controls sharp/Bass/ USB Play or charge /Echo button /Audio in/ Guitar button/ Mic or Guitar input jack and the volume control on the mic. I haven't got a guitar but I have plugged in my mic which then was great for Karaoke turns even after a few sherbets and the volume was quite spectacular. You can also link this speaker to others using the Sony party chain which is as simple as pressing the right button. Note you can only connect up to ten speaker. I think the shape of this speaker is cool in the fact it is cigar shaped with handles top and bottom and both ends of the speaker which makes moving about easy. As a general speaker this fits the bill in every way easy to connect to place and play practically any where in the house garden on the beach where ever this speaker has become my favorite out of all the speakers in our house. If you want a decent sound speaker this is the one you will not regret it.

This speaker is a great all rounder. It offers the ease of Bluetooth connection which is very easy to do. The sound produces a nice rich bass , it can be customized through Sony app. Light effects add to the full entertainment experience as they react to music buy changing colours that are adapted to music or voice. Great battery life allowing for portability and use without having to charge which is done by mains. It has a very handy mic port allowing for Karaoke, it also supports a socket for use with a guitar. When used with the Sony app Fiesable it allows the user to control the speaker to its full potential by giving different which includes voice/remote control, by using the Sony music centre app you can control the bass , equaliser and balance plus more. It's very portable offering the user a variety of places to use it. Sound quality is excellent being rich and powerful which is enhanced by the light presentation which is at either end of the speaker and surrounds the cones, the ULT letters the control panel also flash in sequence. Not only will it pair with a phone but also with a Bluetooth enabled TV which will enhance the sound from the TV.

So pleased with my new Sony Bluetooth speaker. The ULT Field 7, is the best large speaker I have ever owned. To connect to my Smartphone took only seconds. The bass is immense. There is ULT button on the unit to switch between different bass levels, which all seem powerful. It's perfect for BBQ season, rain or shine as it's water resistant. So far experiencing long battery life, comes with cable to recharge. Also the build quality is solid, reassuringly heavy but easy handles to move around with you. The LED lights change in rhythm to the music and can be changed between different moods via the handy Sony music centre app.

Just got my Sony ULT field 7 in time for a nice sunny weekend and I must say it didn't disappoint at a family barbecue, just a nice size and shape for moving about the the garden set up was super simple as was connecting to the music centre app which gives you more control the get the sound just perfect, build quality is very good sturdy not going to get knocked over easily in a busy garden great connection options with usb, audio in and mic and guitar inputs so all covered now to the sound which is superb straight from the box super loud if needed but as mentioned you can tweak to suit, crystal clear audio with probably the best base I have heard on a speaker this size even the neighbours commented on how good it sounded and how the built-in lights added to to it as I was getting dark it is also water proof so has everything sorted for a perfect garden party definitely impressed my guests.

This speaker is a powerful piece of kit. It has great sound, configurable through the app. 2 sound settings are built in with one setting to customise the equaliser. Don't really need to customise as the other settings are sufficient. Played rock and heavy base house through it via Bluetooth and both sounded very good. The settings for the led lights was a nice touch giving a classy feel especially when in low light conditions My son used the guitar setting( yes you can use it as a guitar speaker!!!) it took the fender well but you couldn't go to really high volume, but he said it would be great as a practice speaker. I tried it as a soundbar to my tv but as it's quite large I found it hard to position properly for that purpose. If you could sit it behind the couch then it would work well. The only downside is the size. It's a bit bigger than I expected but that size gives it a good sound. If your regularly entertaining then it would be all you would need for the music All in all a well made speaker, great sound and features but a little bulky. If you don't mind the size then well worth the cost

I have used the ULTIMATE Field 7 in a variety of places already. My studio for general listening whilst working. With my computer for film soundtrack and at my neighbours birthday party outside. The sound is crystal clear even up loud. The design allows for easy carrying. Easily sealed for proofing against water and dirt. Operating from my phone is great varying sound and using the DJ and lighting features. I have plugged in my son's guitar and tried my keyboard, great sound. I feel the price is right as this is a serious piece of kit. I can safely say that this system out performs anything I have already used. Stunning top line plus an exceptional bass all the range is so clean. I already own over ten Sony products. This machine has a feel of high quality. Heavily built for resonance. I'm a male and a senior in age. I'm located in Monmouthshire

Love this speaker, easy to set up very nice quality overall. Sound is strong with great base output and being able to stand it up or lay it down is a good idea. The Sony app you download to set up and manage the speaker is easy to use too. Overall a very impressive price of kit and good value for money.

I'll get it out of the way, I love this system. It's big, but actually not hard to carry as the handles are comfortable, and the weight is evenly distributed. I use Android so the LDAC connectivity means the sound is as good as it gets using Bluetooth. The stated frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz made me smile. How can something this size ever hope to go that low? I don't know the answer to that, other than, it does! Standard audio setting sounds perfectly good. The bass goes low, the volume goes loud. So far, it does what Sony claims. Select ULT 1 audio mode and WOW. This thing has bass. The thing is, it doesn't sound stupidly overdone so it's all boom. The bass doesn't swamp everything else, it just becomes much bigger and prominent. I lived with the standard setting for a little over a week, and no complaints. Having tried both ULT settings (ULT 2 is a good old fashioned LOUD setting. I'm not keen), the ULT 1 just elevates this speaker system to another level. You can be listening indoors where you don't "need" that much bass, but it's impossible to turn it off as it's so much fun. The ULT FIELD 7 doesn't ship with a physical remote control so the Sony Music Centre app is a must. This is where all settings can be played with. It's also where the volume can be adjusted remotely. As the ULT FIELD 7 can have more than one device connected at a time, someone else can stream their music whilst I can control the device. Musically, the ULT FIELD 7 sounds great. I've played the Weeknd, Massive Attack, Billie Eilish, Four Tet, Camelphat, Oasis, even Elvis. Everything is great. The ULT FIELD 7 also has an aux input which has changed how I thought I'd use it. Having planned to use it mostly outdoors, I connected my TV's digital out to an external DAC which then goes into the ULT FIELD 7's aux input. This has now replaced my soundbar. If I'm just watching regular TV, voices sound naturally clear. Watch anything with action and the ULT FIELD 7 is like the sub woofer I always wanted, but never bought.
