With nearly 3 years of Hi-Definition family memories in the internal hard-drive of my Sony XR500 Handycam, I was beginning to panic for a stand-alone Blu-ray recorder to copy those memories in true HD. This MA1 machine is getting hard to find, and Adorama is the only store I trust that still carries it. I appreciated the honest price and quick shipping. My experience is only Sony to Sony. When connecting a Sony hi-def camera to the Sony MA1 by included USB, be patient as they magically connect. You can copy everything on the camera, or arrow to other screens. I like "Copy videos selected by date or thumbnail", where you scroll and check specific dates or thumbnail pictures of your filmings to be copied onto that specific disc. As it records on a BD-R disc, it makes a "Part", or chapter, for every date you made a recording on your camera (e.g. Part 0031 - 07.01.2012). Sadly, you can't add your own title to each Part instead of the date. I do just 2 hour Blu-rays that have about 50 Parts (dates) to scroll thru to find a specific scene. But that's okay for me because they are family memories. The completed BD-R disc seems to only start with the menu listing the dates of filming, not just immediate play. That's an issue if you are making individual productions. The quality of the Blu-ray recording is excellent, with original sound. You can buy empty Blu-ray cases, and print cover inserts listing each date with a description. I use Printable BD-R discs, and design and print the disc label in my Epson Artisan printer.

A very nice portable piece of equipment for transferring VHS or other video to DVD or blu-ray. Makes a very nice external blu-ray recorder for any system that does not already have one. Just wish it had an HDMI input and output as well as SDI. The price would be much higher but well worth it.

Making DVD & Blu-ray of video recordings. I made a DVD, recording some of my videos on my computer burner and it took a long time. I then made the same recording on the Sony VDB-MA1 and was expecting to spend some time when it was done before i knew it. I've had Sony's earlier stand alone DVD device and loved it. This unit easily follows in that line of a great well made product.
