Okay, this is my first review and my first projector ever purchased. At first, I fell into the hype that you need a total dark room to even see the picture. Well this this one, YOU DON'T!! This is so bright even with 1-2 lights on. of course the lighting affects the display. This unit is quiet enough to not be a bother or to even notice it. downfall: Once you turn it on, it takes a good 10-20 seconds to fully turn on.. but after you get used to it. its okay. Also, you need a very long HDMI cable to connect it to a reciever. Make sure that your reciever has 3-4 HDMI inputs so that you can switch between different devices. I have mine connected to my Xbox 360 ( video games have never been the same since!! Plus the split screen with multiple players still gives you a large viewing area and very appreciated among games. I also have it hooked up to my PC ( with blu-ray drive) and the quality if awesome. Somes the computer sees it as a clone monitor, and sometimes as an extension 2nd monitor.. Although, changing the settings on the PC change this, sometimes it doesn't work. I think is is a reciever issue or a PC issue. Back to the Blu-ray. - it is amazing!!! Even though this is a 720p projector, you would not swear it once you saw the quality!!! it is ridiculous!! I also have it hooked to the the Verizon Fios via HDMI hookups and its a 10! the movie display is great and bright. Regular channels (non-HD) look okay, but thats the same everywhere. The projector also has 1-Component and 1- (yellow) video connection, and 1- S/Video. Although I am only Using the HDMI port, I don't know about the other connections. I have had this for over 6 months and the bulb seems perfect still. I have it displaying on an 80 inch Sony Viewing screen but am considering a 108 fixed frame. I have the movie room now and this made it happen. I tell everyone that that is considering a 52" plasma/LCD...that my 108" is like having FOUR 52" tvs side by side!! One of the best decisions I have ever made.. turn off all lights to be absolute perfect and get a screen... projecting on wall will not give you the brightest output. oh, another thing, the turn on/off button requires a confirmation button to shut off... what I mean is I need to push the power button twice to shut off. This is okay, because it takes 15 seconds to turn it back on... this is annoying ... but worth mentioning. For those husband out there talking thier wives into this... it took a while for her to agree... she loves watching movies on it... and can't justify spending the same amount on something half the size!!

Great Projector for the Media Room

The Sony 'BRAVIA' AW-Series represents a new kind of projector aimed at anyone who wants a bold cinematic edge to their home entertainment. The easy to set up 'BRAVIA' AW-Series' brightness is optimally adjusted for using the set in the living room. Moreover, the series is designed in such a manner that even in your living room you feel the same excitement and immediacy of a theatre hall.
Everything about the 'BRAVIA' AW-Series is designed to make it easy to choose and easy to use. The VPL-AW10 has many features, including a compact and stylish all-new design, 720p HD resolution, and multiple inputs including HDMI. This means this model can be connected to 1080p HD sources like Blu-ray Disc players and PlayStation 3.
This projector also supports Sony 24p True Cinema, enabling playback of films at the original cinematic 24 frames per second, completely eliminating the speed and soundtrack distortion present in conventional cinema-to-digital conversion. Thanks to the extra brightness, the 'BRAVIA' AW-Series copes much better with ambient light in a typical living room than traditional projectors.
In addition, VPL-AW10 features Sony's unique and highly regarded dynamic iris control, which adjusts the iris scene by scene to ensure optimum contrast. This makes sure that bright scenes are filled with bright white tones and dark scenes are composed of deep blacks.
VPL-AW10 is capable of projecting a big picture in a relatively limited space - 80-inches at just 2.3m - which is another bonus. A perfect screen for the AW-Series is the new 80-inches (2m) Sony DynaClear portable projector screen which lets you watch films virtually anywhere, without the need for a large empty wall.
Sony's unique DynaClear screen material offers unusually high contrast even in bright ambient light, so you get a great picture at any time of day or night. Furthermore, it is easy to assemble and neatly scrolls back into a compact cylinder after use.
