This is my first foray into a front projector for my home theater. I seriously considered one of the new LCD projectors, but was turned off by reports of dust blobs in the light path and panel alignment issues. Those are 2 problems that you won't have with the Sony. The light path is completely sealed in this SXRD unit and it also has a panel-alignment function to dial in convergence. Very rare in this price range. There are other units out there that top the blacks and contrast of this unit, but it's still excellent in its own right, and more than enough to satisfy picky HT buffs. What I like most about it is the smooth, "natural", almost CRT-like look of SXRD. The end result to me is a much more film-like image. If you want to go SXRD, or front projector in this price range you cannot beat the VPL-HW15 for its value-to-price proposition.

Received my unit on a Thursday afternoon via Fedex. Was surprised that it was not double boxed. I have concerns with how UPS and Fedex treat packages so I had doubts that the unit would be in great shape. Out the box though, the unit appeared fine. I was replacing an11HT which by the had given me a flawless performance for the past 8 years. It was fantastic that I was able to mount the projector onto the existing RP62 mount by Chief Mfg. Since the focal length and and throw of the HW15 matches the 11HT, there was no need to adjust the mount or screen positioning. Finally, the image itself...simply UNBELIEVABLE. I went from a 480p to a 1080p so I cant even describe the euphoria. The projector has a piano place finish and is visually very pleasing. The inputs, lights, and buttons are very conveiently placed. Fan noise is virtually non-existant. The remove is lit in a cool blue light and has the apability of Bravia Sync. All in all, I am please with my choice. I KNOW I made the right choice and I recommend this projector without reservation. For more informaiton on this projector, go to www.avsforum.com and read the official Sony HW-15 thread. Good luck!

If you're a hardcore videophile it's hard not to get excited by the Sony VPL-HW15 BRAVIA SXRD 1080p Home Theater Projector. Its 1000 ANSI lumens are augmented by a contrast ratio that can reach 60,000:1 for the most vivid, lifelike images you've probably ever seen from a video projector. It can project 720p 1080i and 1080p high definition signals as well as video in the NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-N, PAL-M, PAL-60 and SECAM video standards. It also has an international 120 to 240 V AC 50/60 Hz power supply so you can put it to work in many locations around the world.
The VPL-HW15 has two HDMI inputs so you can hook up both your cable/satellite connection and your DVD or Blu-ray player and keep the signal in pristine digital form throughout its electronic journey. The two inputs are also compatible with Sony's 24p True Cinema, which enables you to watch movies at 24 fps (frames per second), which is exactly the frame rate at which movies are shot. BRAVIA Sync means you'll be able to control HDMI CEC-compliant components with a single remote.
Deep Color and x.v.Color are the latest standards that enable HDTV color to be even more vivid and lifelike, enabling the VPL-HW15 to reveal any color the human eye can perceive. Not only does this projector have an unsurpassed picture but it doesn't compromise the audio portion of the program. Its fan noise, at 22 dB, is literally well under the level of a whispered conversation.
