Best ANC headphones
Beyond happy with my XM5. They are everything I wanted in headphones. The ANC is top notch, sound quality is elite, comfort level is 10/10, feels very premium.

Comfortable and Lightweight Design
Since two weeks, I'm already enjoying in listening to music and podcasts with it. I totally love it!! It's so great for relaxing with the music I love in my spare time.

Great product which ticks all my requirements
Bought XM5 recently and so far very happy with it. Highlights are lightweight design and super-comfortable wear feel, top notch ANC, superb microphone quality. Also, the usability is great with touch panel on right earcup which features all needed controls. Highly recommended for anyone looking for top notch headphones. The only gripe is they cannot be folded compact unlike old XM4 or new XM6 but not a big deal for me.

They were great until they weren't
The headphones worked flawlessly for about 22 months. I was very happy with the sound quality, the battery life and the comfort. I'd use these at my desk daily for work and the microphone was great for conference calls. Then after less than 2 years the headset just snapped. They weren't dropped or thrown or anything more than just placed back on the table and snapped. I was shocked that this expensive of headphones would fall apart in that short of a time period. My older XM3 and XM4 models lasted much longer than these.

Don't Bother
I got them brand new from Amazon back in March 2024. They seemed to work fine, never had any issues. Daily driver, used wired on my computer and wireless on my walks and in the gym. The sound quality didn't seem to be the best (when turned on). Had cracking sounds on the right side but they dissapeared overtime. They were basically non existant after those few hiccups. As of today, Nov 2025, the left side does not work anymore. Tried to factory reset them but it didn't do the trick. The current software is up to date so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I'll be contacting support but not expecting expecting much. Overall, for the price paid for the headphones I'm honestly beyond dissapointed. A very expensive lesson has been learned.

Go direct to Sony.
Did loads of research before purchasing 1000XM5 headphones, now I own a set and have used them for three weeks I am very pleased with sound quality. They are comfortable, easy to use and great value for money. Would recommend them and suggest you go direct to Sony as their prices are keen and in my case cheaper than other online outlets.

Best headphones I have ever used. Value for money,
I bought at Sony Alpha Festival last month. V comfortable to wear. Can be a little hot after 20 mins. THe sound is amazing esp for watching movies on Netflix.

Poor Quality and Reliability
I moved over from Sennhieser based off review siting quality ANC and sound. These headphones are great, when they work. My orignial pair had to be repaied twice, within the 1 year gaurentee for similar issues. Sony provided a replacment when they failed for a 3rd time. The replacment headphones lasted 8 months before failing on a well documented popping issue with the ANC. Sent in for repair and Sony said I would need to pay for the repair. After a frustratrated email reply Sony carried out the repair free of charge. These headphone clearly have quality control and design issues that were not fixed in developmenent or manufacturing. For a premium headphone they arn't even very solid being prodomenmtly plastic and with no IP rating at all. Save your money and buy a brand like Sennhieser.

WH-1000XM5 subpar design - No Support
My son received these headphones (WH-1000XM5 as a gift last Xmas from his grandmother and within a year, the plastic connection broke from simple use. Despite having a "manufacturer warranty" , Sony has no interest in replacing or compensating him for a clearly subpar product. My daughter has the same headphones and the charging port melted. Yes - melted. So there is a trend here of poorly designed and supported product by Sony and based on this, I will never buy any Sony products due to the fact that the company doesn't stand behind their products. I gave my son my Sennheiser headphones and he is very happy with them. Much better headphones. So from one tech-heavy family to another - Don't buy Sony headphones!!!

Great sound but not great if you sweat at work
I've had my WH-1000XM5 for a little shy of 1year I am having an issue with moisture getting into the headphones near the drivers and sensors. When I turn my head the sensor activates and turns off my music or hang up the phone. I've tried the steps Sony tech support suggested but nothing has fixed the problem. I use my headphones at work to drown out the loud machinery we use. Sound quality is excellent. Customizations are great. Phone calls tend to be clear and my voice tends to be low for person on the other side of my call. I do love these headphones but would be nice if I could keep the moisture out of driver & sensor area.

Excellent Headphones
I've had this headphones for about a month. The headphone is beautifully designed and the sound sound quality is next to none. I love the touch and noise cancelling features. However, it leaks outside noise when you turn your head to the right.

I am very pleased with my new headphones ! The sound quality is excellent. I also want say that these headphones do not have those horrible creaking noises you get with cheaper poor quality headphones when you move your head around, which is wonderful.

Excellent all rounder
Comfortable with good sound quality and excellent noise cancelling. Would prefer that they folded smaller like Bose and had a hard case rather than the soft one provided. Good battery life. Paid £219 on Prime day so great value.

Not worth it
Headphones totally stopped working in a little over a year, Sony will not offer to repair or any support - they just told me to go find a headphone repair center. Google around, there are known problems with these and the software also sucks.

Decent performance but uncomfortable and fragile.
Noise cancelling is great, sound quality is decent once you've tweaked it with the EQ on the app.
Headband is uncomfortable after about 30 mins and the hinges feel really delicate. Lots of users reporting quality issues with headband padding, too.
