I have had this phone for just over a year and loved it. A few weeks ago, an update came through and was installed. Since then, I cannot use the phone with any of my 3 cars, it disconnects after a few seconds. Also, Bluetooth function now gets stuck on the last car I try to pair it with. Media function still works but you can't make calls. On the advice of support the phone has been reset and software repaired with no change. It is a shame it has been relegated to a paper weight.

mgnxdn38416 to Sony Corporation: I carefully researched numerous 5G smartphones to upgrade from my HTC U20 5G before deciding that the Xperia 5 IV had the best specs for my target price range. It takes about 25 seconds to calibrate the compass in my HTC phone. The compass in my new Xperia 5 IV will not calibrate at all. In researching the problem across the internet, I've discovered that NOBODY'S compass in ANY Xperia 5 IV will calibrate! The app I prefer to use for compass calibration is "GPS Status & Toolbox", a very popular and highly reliable tool. Neither it nor google maps compass calibration is effective on my XQ-CQ62. I believe the only way to fix this problem is for Sony to release a system update, but I bet your programmers haven't yet figured out how to fix this. Please invest some money and time into this problem it is the only flaw with this phone! -gc

The Sony Xperia 5 IV is an utter disappointment and a shameful product. Sony engineers, coders, designers, and executives should take this review to heart. This phone is a disaster of poor coding and a horrible execution of a noble vision. As of right now, this phone stands as the last flagship with both expandable storage and a headphone jack, and it should stand tall with pride, but instead it falls flat on its face as soon as the first units are delivered. This phone cannot "phone" properly. It cannot play music while typing a text message. It cannot open a picture message while in a phone call. It is incapable of handling Android Auto. All of these are things that a 2022 flagship Android should be more than capable of, especially with its flagship chipset. If you buy this phone and expect to have a halfway decent experience, return it because it will not grant you that. This is my second Xperia 5 IV due to these issues, and nothing has changed. It is already on Android 13 (64.1.A.0.857), the latest for the USA region, and there has been no change since launch. Some say it's RAM management killing background applications, but regardless, it's a problem that is impossible to fix on the customer side. I can't trust this phone with anything, not with my life using Android Auto, not with my apps and files knowing that if the OS decides to terminate them, I'll lose everything. Even something as simple as typing gets impeded by this, when typing a text message and listening to music, the OS will force close both the music player AND Gboard while the user is typing. This causes a half second of no on-screen keyboard. I've often returned to apps expecting my last action to have been saved or processed, only to find that the phone decided it wasn't important enough and lost time and energy. Do not expect to use this phone for anything other than answering phone calls, and even then it is incapable of doing that right. I've often been told that I cannot be heard, on both of the Xperia 5 IVs, changing hands, position, and speaker phone. This phone is not capable of VoWiFi calling (WiFi calling) with T-MOBILE USA. It has frequent loss of 5G connectivity, likely due to the OS force closing the part of the operating system that handles that, or some other issue to add to the list. When the user gets notifications, you'll often see two notification trays, overlapped on top of each other like a word document that has gone awry. The cameras overheat scarily fast, irrationally fast, so fast that every attempt I've had to play with them has become a waste of time. Every time the phone decides to kill background apps, it has visible stuttering and pauses while using the camera. I can't see how anyone at Sony is proud of this phone, and I feel bad for the Sony representatives who are forced to deal with angry customers this holiday season. It's like not a single person turned on the phone and used it for longer than a minute. I do not believe any of the engineers who worked on this phone actually used it. It's a shameful device and it puts Sony and Xperia further into the ground. If you want a phone that looks pretty but accomplishes nothing at all, the Xperia 5 IV is the phone for you.

I recently upgraded from my BlackBerry Keyone. I have been in the market for about a year. Samsung and Apple were a strong choice, but I want a phone that is unique that still holds it's own from other premium phones. Strong specs, premium materials, and competitive phone. Only downside is the lack of case options. I have always used technology as tool to benefit my life. When I start to list the products that have the name Sony in my house I don't know why I didn't switch sooner. This is a technical tool that happens to make calls. Sony has been one the major players in movie making and music for years and this phone is a small show cases of that. Judge me on owning a Blackberry but Apple hasn't been truly pushing the limit since iphone 5. Think about it...

This is my first Song phone and I am so close to singing from the mountains about this phone... But there are a few really annoying (and easily fixable) software decisions that are holding me back, at least as of yet. The customization ability is severely lacking. Quick functions attached to gestures or button presses are severely limited. The notification pulldown uses oversized toggle buttons for wireless, Bluetooth, etc... and the notifications themselves are also way too large. I've adjusted the display size in settings, but even so, there is no reason for the notification menu to be so big and bloated .... Also, for a phone that is pretty much completely centered around photography, the forced delay in shooting night photos is honestly unacceptable. Having to wait while it 'processes' before taking another shot isn't okay... especially for how mediocre and typically blurry they come out (and especially compared to the midrange, almost 4year old Samsung S10e I've been using for as many years that takes better night photos and without delay)... See photos below. Otherwise, the hardware is incomparable and outstanding to other Androids. I am a never-apple user and I've been waiting for a phone with these features for a long time - NON-GIANT screen, headphone jack, wireless charging, great battery - there is no other phone available like this (at least for use on Verizon). If Sony could work on the camera and launcher software, re customizability, I would be recommending this phone to everyone I know. Until then, I'll await to see how Sony responds to feedback...
