Decent TV but fails like other brands

Like others have experienced, this TV started getting symptoms of panel failure at 5 years and is now almost unusable at 6 years. After 1 hour of operation the picture starts jumping around. It's outside of warranty and panel failure is irreparable.

Great at first but disappointed

We purchased this TV on 2/6/2021. It ran great for about 2 weeks then suddenly it stopped connecting to the Wi-Fi. We tried all the troubleshooting options. Unplugged it and plugged it back in. Reset the router. Plugged it directly into the wall instead of of power strip. Even did a factory reset. Nothing worked. Went through the chat option for support and the agent quickly verified that the software on the brand new TV needed to be updated. I thought it would be an easy fix from the settings on the TV. Nope. I was told I would need to purchase a thumb drive to download the update from my laptop then upload it to the TV. I'm not a big tech person, I don't have a flash drive just lying around. I was also told that the flash drive had to be formatted a specific way. I find it very disappointing that a TV that was purchased just weeks ago needs an update and not an easy update at that.

GREAT PICTURE

I wanted a larger screen for my bedroom and read a lot of reviews. Sony was my choice. I love the picture. I got a 43 in to sit on my stand and it just fits nicely. It was very easy to set up. I was having my doubts with all the cables I had to disconnect and connect to my new tv. Once I connected 2 cables, away it went and I had a great picture and sound, etc. I am very happy to have made this purchase.

Do you read Arabic???

I love the Smart TV but am very flustered when the first Bravia Tutorial I click on shows Arabic style print over the English texts. None of the other tutorials do this and I can't figure out how to get Sony to replace it...

SONY TV 4K HDR-THE ONE AND ONLY

I have been a SONY Television owner going back to the 1980’s. I currently have 4 SONY televisions all around my house. Two of them including this one are high definition. I had my eye on this one cause of the 2160 resolution. This is double the 1080 that you get in most tv’s. The picture is so vivid you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Everyone tells me to get a different model (Samsung, LG) but I am so glad I did not listen. Thank you SONY

Worst Sony purchase I have ever made

I have been purchasing Sony products since the 1980's. It was always a sure thing that you would have a quality product. Unfortunately this43 inch sony tv I purchase in 2017 has been nothing but a headache from day one. I spent months communicating with sony on an issue of dropping internet connections and taking 5 minutes to connect to the internet every morning. I spent hours on the phone to no avail. finally I figured out what the issue was. it was ipv6, it had to be shut off in the tv. Then that worked ok for a month or 2 until I updated the software on the tv. Ever since then the tv will not power on at some time during the day. the only way to watch tv is to unplug it plug it back in and then power it on. It does a full reboot ant then works until the next day when it will do it again. I cannot tell you how much I hate this tv and not Sony.

Fantastic Picture

I’ve had this TV for about a month now and the picture is outstanding. I even compared this TV to some OLED TVs from different manufactures and this one blew those away. It’s not cheap for a TV with a 43 inch screen, but if you need a smaller TV with a great picture this is the one to get.

Do it

I’ve owned it a year, back then I was wondering if it was still too soon to by 4K... it was not, ergo, if you’re wondering if it’s too soon to buy 4K, it is absolutely not. Initially, the Android OS was terrible, the only major system update in 14 months improved it, not dramatically, but it’s stable and doesn’t infuriate me, so, in case you’re reading reviews saying the OS is a nightmare, it was, but it’s fixed. Of COURSE the motion controls are all ON when it comes out of the box, but as soon as I was able to turn the abysmal soap opera effect(s) off I could see the picture was beautiful. Now, one year later, I still catch myself frequently thinking to myself, “Dang that TV is nice.” Sometimes I think that and it’s not even on. Amazon and Netflix both offer UHD content, 4K in an improved, 10-bit color space, and it’s gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see more things go that way, (and they are.) In case you’re curious it takes about 15Mbps throughput. Blu ray looks slightly less jaw dropping than UHD, X800D upscales everything (720 and up) to 4K, so blu-ray (1080, i’m not talking about newer HD blu-ray) looks fantastic. There’s absolutely no noticeable aliasing, zizzing, or intra frame compression and instead of making me want an HD blu-ray player it just made me want to watch all my old blu-rays. Bonus. Chromecast built in is great, no having to switch inputs if you want to throw a video on your phone to the TV. The panel is “VA” or vertically aligned pixels, the viewing angle is slimmer and you can’t tell from any seat in the living room, but if I’m way off to the side the picture is super milky, but I’m taking about 35-40°, in the kitchen poking my head around the corner to see the answer to final jeopardy, extreme, no one in their right mind watches tv at, angle. The smart TV features are all easy to navigate and work well, no complaints since they improved the android os. The menu system, remote, navigation etc. are all solid... it’s Sony. The physical design is gorgeous, the bezel is super thin, as is the profile of the TV, which is tapered, making it look from the side like it’s ridiculously thin. The ins and outs are pretty standard, but I know there’s TV’s at this price point that only have 2 hdmis (The X800D has 4, at least one of which is an ARC.) There’s optical and digital audio out, and every combination of analog you’d need to hook older stuff up, like component or composite or SD... Coax too, of course. No regrets, I know this will last me years before any significantly better tech comes out. This TV is awesome sauce, especially for the price.

My Second Sony TV

I like the fact that I can connect four 'sources' to it, namely a Windows computer, an Ubuntu computer, an Amazon stick and a regular TV I am also pleased that Sony updates its features, the latest being voice control , '

Issues with the audio

I purchased the XBR49 x 800D September 2016. Great set except for a recent problem. Audio is not working. The STB box has been checked and is operational. Reviewed all of the settings and came up empty handed. Contacted the cable company who advised the problem must be with the television. Any suggestions?

great all round television

I purchased this television about three months ago. What was my primary reason? Gaming! I also have a PS4 Pro. I selected this tv for the low lag times. What is lag times? (well just google it for more info.) This display responds lightning fast to imputs from my PS4 Pro. This television also looks great with the blu ray movies I watch. Another thing that was cool was that as soon as I hooked up my PS4 Pro to hdmi input #2 (you have to use 2 or 3 for hdr) the television and PS4 Pro communicated with each other. The television automatically set itself to GAME MODE. Perfect.

Samba takes over the TV!

I've had this TV for about 10 months. Intermittently, the home menu appears and I have to hunt down the remote and go through a lot of gyrations to get the TV picture back. However, that is minor compared to getting a message that Sony Samba has been is not working. When given the opportunity a few months ago, I opted out of the Samba feature. Three times the Samba message has appeared in the middle of the screen and will NOT go way. I've been on the line with customer service twice for almost an hour to resolve it. The last time, the rep set the TV back to factory settings and assured me it was fixed. Well, it's back. Last night I called again and was told that the problem would have to be escalated to another group and it would take 3 DAYS to hear from them. Therefore, I am without my TV for at least 3 days. I don't have any faith that this problem can be fixed. STAY AWAY FROM SONY!!!!

Feels Slower Everyday

The visual quality of the screen is great, but the sluggishness of the basic features ruins the product. It takes 3-4 seconds to bring up basic menus. Simple actions like changing the volume or navigating a menu sometimes take 3-5 seconds after a button press to register. The best software feature is the built in Chromecast support but even that is buggy and suffers from terrible design decisions. For example, after a long period of inactivity from Chromecast (e.g. 30 minutes after you finished listening to music) the TV will suddenly revert back to the last input it was on which is using blaring a loud TV station. Every so many months there is a software update that vaguely lists "general improvements to performance" but my TV just seems to get slower. I really don't remember it being so bad when I bought it, so I wonder if they used some sort of cheap NAND memory in it that gets slower over time. I miss the days of dumb TVs that had physical buttons; at least those would change the channel or the volume as soon as you pressed them.

Always an Amazing Picture

There is no end to the praise I could give for the picture quality. I played 4k discs, blu-ray, even DVD. With auto settings the picture was adjusted to the optimal dimensions. Hocus Pocus never looked so good.

Love Sony Tv's

Pretty simple to use, can play games on it with the PS4 controller. Kodi works on it to, so that's a big plus. The only real negative is when it slows down and doesn't display the volume, other than that it runs great and has a awesome picture (you can turn the picture of so you can just listen to music).

Great Picture and Sound!

I've had this TV for about a month. Impressed with the picture and sound quality... not impressed with the Android app integration wish it could be a dumb TV rather than having the Android OS on it. Also kind of lame that Sony doesn't have a register this TV option in the menu of options. Also seems to be a problem with over the air reception. If I try to scan for more channels without using the "initial setup" feature it will scan for channels and show there are 30+ channels and then when you click ok it goes to the next screen and flickers and then shows 5 channels and forgets all of the channels it just scanned for and are there.

Great Picture- some technical issues

Great picture, I bought this TV as a replacement for a TV that dies recently. I love the picture and have had great success with my previous Sony products and thought this would interface nicely with my PS4. Well the Google Android is not as friendly with PSN as I would've expected. PSN won't register the tv, the programming for the antenna reception runs and then flashes back to 5 channels found instead of the 50 it just found and only lets it show analog channels!! WOW guess that was the bonus of updating the software. I was able to work around this issue through the "original set up menu" but was very frustrated until the work around worked.

FEATURES

4K HDR: the next generation of picture quality - A High Dynamic Range (HDR)-compatible TV will change the way you look at TV. Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers exceptional detail, color and contrast, with a far wider range of brightness than other video formats. The result is the most lifelike picture TVs have ever been able to create, with brilliant highlights and fine detail.

4K X-Reality PRO: enhance every picture up to 4K - Discover a thrilling world of extraordinary clarity. Every single pixel is enhanced beautifully by Sony's most powerful 4K picture processing technology ever. Individual parts of each scene are analyzed and matched with a special image database that independently addresses texture, contrast, color, and edges. The difference is clear with supremely lifelike detail, whatever you're watching.

TRILUMINOS Display - BRAVIA brings you even more lifelike color. Because TRILUMINOS selectively maps colors across the wide gamut available thanks to the specially-developed backlight, subtle colors do not become oversaturated and unnatural. You'll enjoy vivid, authentic images that evoke the emotion in every scene.

Motionflow XR keeps the action smooth - Enjoy smooth and sharp details even in fast-moving sequences with Motionflow XR. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones. It compares key visual factors on successive frames, then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences. Some models also include black-frame insertion for a blur-free and truly cinematic look.

Google Cast: Plays nice with your other devices - BRAVIA is Google Cast ready so you can easily cast your favorite entertainment like YouTube from your personal device on to the stunning BRAVIA screen. You can cast from Android, iOS, or your laptop.

Cable management - Keep wires out of sight, thanks to hidden cable panel structure. All of your cables are fully concealed behind the panel, and run down through the center of the stand, so everything looks tidy.

Google Play: A world of content and apps - Discover movies and TV shows, games, and much more from Google Play. Enjoy a huge and ever-growing choice of apps on your TV in a brand new way.

Say what you want to see with voice search - Spend less time browsing, and more time watching. Voice search on Android TV provides you with the power of Google search, allowing you to find content across different services without the hassle of time-consuming text entry. You can also get recommendations; asking for "romantic comedies," for example, brings up a list of suitable options.

BRAVIA meets Android TV - Your smart TV just got smarter. Think of all the stuff you love doing on your smartphone or tablet, now on the big, beautiful BRAVIA screen. All-new Sony's Android TV lets you connect and enjoy any content, from apps to movies, between different Android devices - the simplest and easiest way ever.

DSEE restores detail to your digital music - Low-resolution Internet video, catch-up TV and other heavily compressed audio files don't always sound so great. A large amount of information gets thrown away when digital audio is compressed. With Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, lost frequency components (especially high frequencies) are restored for natural sound with a more spacious feel.

Cinematic S-Force Front Surround - Enjoy an immersive soundstage that pulls you into the heart of the action. S-Force Front Surround mimics the way the brain correlates sound sources to create proper volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum - using only left and right speaker channels. By naturally emulating three-dimensional sound fields, you'll enjoy rich, high-fidelity audio across a wider listening area.

Content Bar: find everything fast - The unobtrusive content bar quickly lets you find the movie, TV show, or video you're looking for. Call up the Content bar and you can keep watching, while you scan through live TV, on demand, downloaded TV shows, and much more. You can even customize the content bar to show you the content you go to most often first.

Clear Phase for smooth, balanced frequencies - BRAVIA uses a powerful computer model to analyze and compensate for inaccuracies in speaker response. It does this by "sampling" the speaker frequency with higher precision. This information is fed back to cancel out any peaks or dips in the speaker's natural response resulting in pure, natural audio with smooth, even reproduction of all frequencies.

Stream PlayStation games straight to your TV - Play selected PlayStation 3 games directly through your TV or Blu-ray player, no console required. Get your first glimpse of PlayStation Now, bringing streaming technology to the immersive world of PlayStation gaming. Just pair a DUALSHOCK 4 controller with the TV and you're ready to play with the same speed and responsiveness as a console.

Made to listen: ClearAudio+ - Make your listening as lifelike as your viewing. ClearAudio+ fine-tunes TV sound for an immersive experience that seems to surround you. Hear music, dialog, and surround effects with greater clarity and separation, whatever you're watching.

IR Blaster - control everything with one remote - The Infra-red (IR) Blaster lets you control other devices in your home from your Sony TV remote. You can use it to control your Set-top box (cable box) with the TV remote controller.

Enrich your viewing with the TV SideView app - Find, record, and talk about your favorite TV shows using the TV SideView app. Use your tablet or smartphone (Android or iOS) to see the latest TV schedule as well as view the most popular programs currently trending. Once you've found what you want to watch, you can set an alarm so you never miss the shows you love. Live tweet your reactions and see what other viewers are saying.
