These LaCie Rugged drives are my ride or die. These are the only external hard drives I'll buy now, because they've never failed me. Not once in 10+ years. I have 5 now and they've saved me many times when I needed to access photos for clients from years and years back (so much faster than trying to download them from my off-site cloud backup). These drives give me so much peace of mind.

After the first use to back up information on Mac OS, Apple Support, who assisted with this process, identified a problem concerning the functionality of the hard drive. I was able to do an exchange at the store for the same model. Now, looking forward to have the new item working as expected. My recommendation is - test before use.

I ordered the LaCie 5TB Rugged Mini USB to back up my back up and thus far it does not disappoint! It is small, about half the size of my older one and has one more TB of space. Simple to use, just attach to your computer and start backing up!

I buy 1 or 2 of these every couple months. To have a permanent back up of my footage. Honestly at this point I should probably have a raid. But these work great for dumping footage on the go if that?s what you need too. I have purchased 15 of these over the last 8 years. And never had a single fail.

I owned four Lacie drives, three were Rugged Minis. The oldest was purchased in 2014, the newest in 2017. I have never had problems with any of them. By that time I had to trash two drives from another manufacturer. When I decided to add a second drive for Time Machine backups I only needed to decide what capacity Lacie Rugged Mini I wanted. With their proven reliability, there was no other choice.

If you're reading this, you probably already know that LaCie Rugged's are an industry standard, whether as a field drive or an in-office shuttle drive. These things are built to take abuse if necessary (though I advise not doing so). This was purchased as an upgrade on older legacy drives and, though I experienced a small hiccup in doing backups with other storage units, I'm confident in my purchase. 4 stars only because it's still using a USB 3.0 port, so transfer speeds are slower than 3.1 or 3.2, but at the very least, a cable for Thunderbolt ports is included, along with a USB-A cable for those still a few years behind. The price for 5TB of stable hard drive protection made sense and I chose this one over a slightly cheaper, less protected brand. NEVER plug it via a USB hub, and you should be safe.

Everything worked as expected except that the provided USB-C cord to connect my Mac to the LaCie 5T external drive did not work! The other provided standard USB cord connected my Mac and the external drive just fine, and the first backup of my computer proceeded as expected, except that it was slow as molasses since the drive didn't have benefit of the much faster USB-C connection!
