Questions & Answers

Timothy O : Can these binoculars be able to remove the dark filters for regular viewing? I hate to spend that kind of money for one lifetime event!Diane S : The lens looks designed to be permanently installed for safety. You can use these for sun spot viewing too. But the dark lenses might be able to be popped out. But I wouldn't try it until after the eclipse. They are a separate add in and you might ruin the dark ones removing themKEAVON C : No, the solar filter is built in and not removable.JOHN W : Tim, no. They were made for solar viewing. They have BAK;7 prisms, but you only need the center of the field for the sun.Scott P : No, there is no obvious way to remove the filters. It may be possible but would require taking the whole front assembly apart. But, don't forget, there is another full eclipse coming in 2024... so, at least twice in a lifetime event. Depending on your age of course. ;-)Shane D : This is definitely not a feature. I could not say it was impossible, but it doesn't seem like it would be a good idea. For what its worth they are also useful for sunspot viewing if this is something that interests you.George S : Timothy, the solar filters are not designed to be removed without special tools. Although the total eclipse is this September, one can still observe the sun and active sun spots any day the sun is out. Remember, there is another total eclipse coming in 7 years. You may then be ready to spend more on a dedicated solar telescope by then. In the mean time these binoculars are a fair buy.Edward S : No, these binoculars are one-purpose only binoculars--to look at the sun. Apart from viewing eclipses, both partial and total, they might also be able to view large sunspots.JOHN C : No, they're permanently attached. No good for anything but eclipses, but they look like they'll be great for that. Can't see anything through them except the sun, not even light bulbs. How much is a once-in-a-lifetime experience worth?MARK N : No, they are dedicated solar binoculars. I'm sure this was done for safety reasons and to keep the cost down. Cost is pretty reasonable, in my opinion. Compare to removable solar binocular filters and you'll see what I mean.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?MICHAEL P : Good dealJaime D : I need them for the solar eclipse, the price is good and the product is from a renown brand!PAULA J : the first pair of celestron solar binocs 10x42 had a double image no matter how we adjusted these binoculars according to instructions. we just ordered another pair and hopefully not the same problem with the new ones.ALYSSA H : Finding a solar filter for the binoculars might have been a better option but there are plenty of uses for this binocular outside of the solar eclipse.PAULA J : upcoming eclipseALAN L : Amongst the choices this one was felt a good value. I can enjoy splendid views of the upcoming eclipse and watch the solar maxPETER P : Sky and Telescope reviewMCCLELLAN T : i want to see the eclipse in all its glory.EMILIE S J : The Celestron EclipSmart binos are great for general solar observation - safe, simple & portable. Purchased a second pair to have "extras" on hand for the upcoming solar eclipse in August. The Celestron Solar Observing Kits are excellent as well ( better to buy from a reliable manufacturer and authorized retailer! ) and the prices on Adorama are always competitive across the board.

A small step up from solar glasses

Got these to watch the 2017 solar eclipse since most available paper glasses were of dubious quality. The binoculars worked well for this, providing a slightly magnified image of the sun -- enough to just make out some sunspots. Provided a black image unless looking directly at the sun which is good but can make finding the sun difficult. The image seemed a little soft at times and it's hard to tell if this was just a result of strict eye placement needs, the solar filtering, or just the glass. For casual viewing of the sun this is a step up from glasses but might not be worth the cost premium, especially compared to a dedicated telescope filter.

Very good for most people

I bought this for the partial (in my location) solar eclipse and it performed pretty well, I deducted one star because the offset adjustment was insufficient to focus both optics simultaneously.

Worth the money

Enjoyed the eclipse! May be worth 5 stars but will require additional use before giving top rating. For now, overall quality is very good and worth the money.

The binoculars are fine and I am looking forward to watching the Sun on many occasions

I initially ordered this from Amazon. They held my order for over a month and suddenly cancelled it with out reason. I reordered from your company and received it within a week. I am no longer using Amazon and have switched to you; a company I can depend on. The binoculars are fine and I am looking forward to watching the Sun on many occasions.

Ready for Eclipse 2017 & 2024!

Great grab-and-go for quick solar observations. Saw some larger sun spots and will be great to use with my kids for the August eclipse. No filters or tracking required.

Great for the Eclipse

These are an excellent tool for observing the upcoming Eclipse's over the next few years. The are light enough to hold up for the entire eclipse, enough magnification to get a good look but not so much magnification as to place areas out of view. Construction isn't top notch but is quite good. I'm not sure you would be able to see any sun spots, if so they would have to be absolutely the biggest ones, so not really recommended for day to day viewing of the sun. It's not what I purchased them for though. The only reason I didn't give them a 4 star is the price. I feel they are just a tad high. If the price was more like $ they would have deserved a 4 star rating.

For on the go

Small, portable so you can take them with you when you travel. I bought them for the coming total eclipse.

Not bad , not perfect

For the price, don't expect a first class binocular. For their use to look at the sun they are better than average and much better than the paper glasses sold on line. However, a proper set up telescope will be the best choice for the up coming eclipse.

can't wait to try it out on the solar eclipse in August

Got the 10x50 solar binocular out yesterday and was able to see one large sunspot, can't wait to try it out on the solar eclipse in August.
