Questions & Answers

Shopper : I'm confused, does this already come rolled or is it just the film? And how many rolls?GRANT P : Hey man, in technical terms is it properly called a "roll of film" because lo & behold, it comes rolled. It comes the only way anybody outside of the inner circles of Ilford, Kodak, Fuji, Agfa, et al have ever seen 35mm film. There shalt be no surprises, brother. You will be able to deal with it. One "roll" per box, per can.MELANIE S : Already rolled .Just oneHEATHER B : It is already rolled on the container or carriage and there is only one roll of 24 exposure.ANNE E : Hi there! This is a standard roll of film in a film canister ready to load into your 35 mm camera. Hope this helps! AnneDEVAN H : yes, if it looks like a small box and has either 24, 27, or 36 exposures than it is a single roll of film. 35mm film only comes in single rolls like this one or in a bulk roll of more than 100 exposures.

Pleasantly surprised

Usually when a film stock is on sale it's short dated. Or even expired. All the film I ordered was fresh batches that don't expire for a few years. Not that I'd be worried about bw film being expired but nice to see.

My go-to film for decades, HP5 shines in many situations.

I've used HP5 for decades, from 35 to 4x5, and it's nearly my only film now. I use only D-23, but I can get just about any kind of negative I need with thoughtful exposure and processing. In 4x5, that typically means anything from a very long-range scene to a very flat one, with ratings from 200 to 800. My work does not require the high acutance and absolutely grainless appearance that some require from enormous prints. Remember that even a 16x20 is only just over a 4x enlargement, so even with significant cropping, a 4x5 neg printed to 11x14 is grainless (and 645 negs very fine grain indeed). The speed and versatility of this film are reliable and often a choice for fine printers.

A really solid cheap film

For the price of $6 bucks a roll the film is really nice to use an the photos come out great. If you aren't afraid to get a little stylistic push it 2 stops for stunning (if grainy) contrast.

Long, long life

I’ve had this brand of film unused in 8X10 holders stored in my basement for 7 years, not even protected from moisture or humidity. COVID caused me to get out my old Korona (!) and test the film in it. Eureka! - perfect results! So I used it for a Christmas portrait of my little granddaughters. Their Mom’s so happy with it she’ll use it for their card.

dependable film, great images

By jblackdub

I have always preferred Ilford films to Kodak and Fuji for black and white. HP5 is a time tested favorite of mine and the 4x5 format is great for this film

Great Film, Great Price!

This is the best price I've found for this film.

Find the perfect balance between speed and quality with the HP5 Plus 400 Fast Black and White Professional Film. This ISO 400, 35mm film is designed for the discerning photographer who demands superior image quality under a variety of lighting conditions.

The HP5 Plus is more than just a fast black and white film. It's a versatile tool for capturing action, available light, and general purpose photography. Its high ISO rating allows for optimal performance even in low light conditions, making it a reliable choice for professional photographers.

This film stands out for its fine grain, sharp edge contrast, and exceptional sharpness, all of which contribute to its excellent image quality. The resulting prints boast outstanding brightness and a full tonal range, making every shot a masterpiece.

The HP5 Plus film is not just limited to an ISO 400/27 Degree rating. By extending development with certain developers, such as ILFORD ILFOTEC HC and ILFORD MICROPHEN, it's possible to use meter settings up to EI 3200/36. This flexibility makes the HP5 Plus an ideal choice for photography where poor lighting and moving subjects demand the highest emulsion sensitivity.

Compatible with all current processing systems, the HP5 Plus is robust during processing and delivers excellent results under most conditions. It even tolerates less than ideal processing conditions, making it a reliable choice for every photographer.

The HP5 Plus 35mm film comes in DX Coded cassettes, ensuring the film speed of ISO 400/27 Degree is set automatically on automatic 35mm cameras. The cassettes are designed for durability, with end caps firmly fixed to the body to withstand rough handling. The film's low friction characteristics allow it to advance easily, saving battery wear.

With its base tint, the HP5 Plus enables easy print contrast assessment on a light box. For easy negative identification, it features bold frame numbering for whole frames and letters to indicate half frame numbering.

In a world where lighting conditions and subject movement can be unpredictable, trust the HP5 Plus 400 Fast Black and White Professional Film to deliver consistently high-quality results.
