This little plate is great for a light weight camera allowing you to use your own tripod mount. It is not bulky at all. Unfortunately, it did not fit the camera I was going to use it on due to the battery compartment design. I could not open the battery door with it on...or with my own tripod plate for that matter. Poor camera design, not Spider's fault. I'll be using it on another camera. I have not been disappointed in any Spider product & I've purchased quite a few. Great products, well made & durable! Well worth the cost!

I bought this plate to allow my camera to attach to my tripod. It works fantastic! I actually prefer the offset location of the pin attachment better on this plate as opposed just the pin. If I did have any sort of complaint, I would say it's that the plate is never really tightly held down. I feel it is probably more due to the tripod mount than the plate as it just holds with the one screw, but the plate always comes loose just enough to shift after a while.

The thin plate is definitely for a lightweight DSLR or more appropriately a Coolpix/Point & Shoot. It is very handy and you can use a tripod with it (something you can't do with the heavier plate.) I really like the leather grip handle they make which also works with the thin plate while retaining the ability to use a tripod.

Extremely useful product for photographers on the go. My thin plate is attached to the bottom of my Panasonic GF2 and allows me to carry the camera on my side. Installed a Spider Black Widow Pin and the assembly hangs from a Spider Black Widow holster when not in use. Allows me to grab it quickly when an opportunity arises and when finished stow it back on my side. The advantage of this plate is it leaves the tripod mounting point open on the camera. The plate is held in place with my tripod's quick-release. This combo allows me freedom to setup the tripod with both hands, mount the camera for stable shots, and transfer the camera to my side for easy tripod take down all within seconds. The plate also allows the camera to hand from the holster in a safer lens aimed back position when walking around than if the pin were in the tripod mount hole. This is helpful when I have my larger zoom lens attached to the camera. Weight difference of the additional plate is negligible. Only issue found is the plate can get in the way of manual focusing when my 20mm f1.7 pancake lens is attached. Not even noticed with any other combo. You will appreciate this system everytime you need both hands free and don't want to set your camera on the ground where it can get dirty or damaged or set it on a table where it can fall or be taken. Puts the weight of your camera on your hip as opposed to the back of your neck from a strap.

An optional accessory for the Spider Holster Black Widow Camera Holster, the stainless steel Black Widow Thin Plate allows for the easy attachment of a tripod quick release plate and helps distribute the camera's weight for the ideal carrying position (lens pointed backwards rather than at the ground).
The Black Widow Thin Plate is recommended for use with heavier mid-level cameras that do not exceed 3.0 lbs. For cameras that exceed this limit, users should consider purchasing the SpiderPro Plate that accompanies the Spider Holster Pro Camera System.
